Re: Jets players starting to turn on Mangini?

It really has nothing to do with 3-4 vs. 4-3. It has to do with being a 1-gap defense vs. a 2-gap defense. Even when the Pats run a 4-3, they still 2-gap.
I agree with your point that 3-4 and 4-3 can either be 1-gap or 2-gap, but sometimes the Pats shoot the gaps playing 1-gap. I don't know about the Jets, but they could whichever they wanted to.

Vilma is more of a 1-gap type linebacker, better suited for a Chicago or Tampa or Indy type system. Switching to a 4-3 would do nothing as the Jets would still 2-gap.
Unless they don't. There is no law that they have to 2-gap. They can do it anyway they want.

I actually don't want them to get the #1 overall draft pick. Let them win a couple and finish 4-12 or 3-13.

Re: Jets players starting to turn on Mangini?

The Jets expressed interest in moving Vilma this off-season but a deal was never made. He's pretty over rated IMO and it looks like the Jets and Vilma will part ways this next off-season.

I also imagine some of the Jets players (particularly the receivers) are pushing for Clemens to get out there.

Re: Jets players starting to turn on Mangini?

I was thinking more along these lines (apologies to M. Python):

Media: Bring out your injured!
[clang]
Bring out your injured!
[clang]
Manweenie: Here's one.
Vilma: I'm not injured!
Media: What?
Manweenie: Nothing -- just report him as injured.
Vilma: I'm not injured!
Media: Here -- he says he's not injured!
Manweenie: Yes, he is.
Vilma: I'm not!
Media: He isn't.
Manweenie: Well, he will be soon, he's very ill.
Vilma: I'm getting better!
Manweenie: No, you're not -- you're knee will be toast in a moment.
Media: Oh, I can't report on him like that -- it's against regulations.
Vilma: I don't want to go on the injured list!
Manweenie: Oh, don't be such a baby.
Media: I can't report him...
Vilma: I feel fine!
Manweenie: Oh, do us a favor...
Media: I can't.
Vilma: I think I'll go for a walk.
Manweenie: You're not fooling anyone y'know. Look, isn't there
something you can do?
Vilma: I feel happy... I feel happy.
[wham to the knees with a shovel]
Manweenie: Ah, thanks very much.

that was a rumor and its been confirmed that it was a just a rumor. it was speculation that he wasnt fit for 3-4 and they were looking to trade. all false though.

All false except the fact that he isn't fit for the 3-4 at least the Belichick 3-4 that Mangini uses.

Look on the bright side, the 2008 Patriots will have a new in the box Safety :)

(I'm just kidding folks)

Re: Players turning on Mangini, Vilma injured? (merged)

Seems like Jets players and fans are realizing that Coach ManKotite might not be as smart as they initially thought.

Mangini may think it's Belichick's 3-4, but it's not! It's evolved well past that and morphed into something Mangini no longer recognizes!

The Jets are getting just what they deserve with this guy...

Yet again you blather ignorance about football.
BB would give a 2 pick for Vilma who'd be a star here. You might reflect upon how well BB did with his 2nd and 4th picks this season. Not that the perfidious Jets would ever trade to the Pats.

Re: Players turning on Mangini, Vilma injured? (merged)

I don't really see what you are saying.. They used their 2nd rounder to get Welker who has been fantastic. Their 4th was Kareem Brown. Obviously you aren't going to get a rookie pro-bowler in the 4th round, and thats exactly how good brown would need to be in order to see the field. If he can become a solid 4th or 5th option, along the lines of a jarvis green in a few years, then it was a very solid pick.

They had more than one 4th. I think they swapped the other one for that WR guy Moss.

Jets: Vilma gone for season with knee?

EEI just said that Vilma may be gone for the season with a "significant knee injury"...

wonder if Mangini Galoolied him for speaking to the media last week

Re: Jets: Vilma gone for season with knee?

I hate to see this happen for several reasons. First the entertainment product is diluted every time a good player goes out. Secondly, because now Mangini has an excuse for this excerable season. On 2nd thought, I want Mangini's ineptness to continue as the Jets coach so maybe only reason one stands.
