Most likelyI would imagine this has to do with Cooper just being useless more so than anything else.

They wouldn't release him if they wanted him on the team.

If they've already guaranteed his salary, they darn well better not be paying him twice.
Gotta pay someone, functionally the same whether it's him or someone else.IF he came back (and I'm not saying, or even guessing, that he will), it would almost certainly be on a minimum type of salary.
And another 1rder down the drain ..
Not our 1st rounder though.
He's not just a throw in considering the cap hit he eats up.
But we did trade away one of our best first rounders for him.......
You're like everyone's ex-wife.They wouldn't release him if they wanted him on the team.

The cap amount was small compared to someone like Chad Johnson or even Hightower..
2.3 million in dead money, ZERO cap savings from cutting him
.......and Thuney, and Mitchell, who will still be here next season, and Jones almost certainly wouldn't have.
It was a awful trade, now that Cooper was cut, the cap savings (between what they would have had to pay Chandler, and the dead money if Cooper) is less than 5 million, it becomes a God awful trade.
Where does the dead money come from. His contract ends at the end of the year.2.3 million in dead money, ZERO cap savings from cutting him
Chad Johnson - 6.5M Cap Hit.
Donte Hightower - 7.75M Cap Hit.
You didn't negate anything I said. 2.3M is SMALL in comparison..
