What would this offseason look like if BB was still here?

I'm curious what people's thoughts are on how this off-season would be different if BB was still the GM.

I think BB would:

Move on from Mac

He might make overtures for Jimmy G

If Jimmy G doesn't take a hometown discount deal, Brisset is plan B.

As far as the draft, I think BB would be receptive to a qb at 3, but the trade back option would be awfully tempting especially if he still thinks he can win with an average QB.

He'd either franchise or let Onwenu walk. Siddy Sow is the replacement at guard.

He makes a play for Tyron Smith if he can win the deal or signs a JAG at tackle like Eluemunor or Cam Fleming. If he decides to trade back in the draft, tackle would likely be taken in the first round.

I think he'd likely resign Henry.

Assuming a franchise tag on Onwenu, Dugger would be free to explore his market value. I believe the Mapu pick last yr was insurance for letting Dugger walk. Dugger would be resigned if BB wins the deal which is quite possible, given the Safety FA market.

Bourne is likely resigned.

Devante Parker is retained.

Guy is released.

Uche is back if he takes a below market deal.

He continues to have a roster with ST only players. Chris Board might be released, but another ST only player would be signed.

Thoughts?

If BB only received a 6th round pick for Corky Venecol would be livid at such a stupid deal.

Venny did not want Henry and Bourne back, but since Kraft, Wolf and Groh made the deals its all good. Same with Brissett.

A lot of the same moves as yesterday, but probably not including Onwenu.
Agreed. Why would any top free agents want to come here unless we break the bank and we aren't a break the bank franchise(i blame Haynesworth). So we added a bunch of Hyundais vs sports cars.

I think it would look quite similar to yesterday. Board and possibly Parker are still here and Onwenu may not be, but this seems like a normal free agency for us.

Parker and JuJu would have new extensions. Myles Bryant would have been locked up without testing free agency. James Ferentz would still have job security instead of retiring as soon as his protector is gone. Board would still be the team, possibly extended with a nice pay bump.

Onwenu would have been low balled because "look, we spend to the cap, can't afford everyone."

I disagree with those who think this free agency is similar to what Belichick would be doing if he were still here. If Belichick was still here I think the expectation from Kraft would been to win now, which is the opposite of what they are are doing in this free agency. I think Belichick would have done everything he could to sign Baker Mayfield, and would have gone down the list of free agent QB’s if that failed. And even though it would have been out of character for Belichick I think he would have gone after the big ticket receivers in the attempt to win now. So overall I think the approach would have been diametrically opposed to the approach they are taking right now,

I have to give Kraft credit here. My one concern heading into this offseason was that Kraft wanted a shot at Lombardi before moving on, and he would push for the same moves I just said I thought they would make if Belichick were still here. Instead he has apparently bought into the idea of an intelligent longer term rebuild of the offense, and bolstering an already strong defense. Although the headline signings aren’t there they have done a very good job of making good deals with good players, and letting the market come to them, instead of setting it.

If BB stayed:
Onwenu might get franchise tagged, but no chance a new deal is agreed on;
Bourne is a goner, for daring to criticize Matty P back in the day;
Parker would've stayed and be called a damn fine No 1 receiver;
Chris Board release doesn't happen, we all know why;
A trade down, if not multiple trade downs feels inevitable. We always need more fourth rounders to blow on specialists;
We bypass all the WRs in the draft, because drafting good players from good positional classes just isn't smart enough for him

We will never know the answer to the Question. So why ask the question?
