Patriots v. Bears (10/26) Bedard film review

You're trying to equate "A" with "All that is not B". Stork being better than Devey is not the same as Stork being All-world.

You're putting words in my mouth. When did I ever say anything about Stork being All-world? Who even said that he should be in the "up" category? All I said was that Stork's contribution to the improvement of the offensive line outweighed a few rookie mistakes, and that there were others who I would personally have listed ahead of him in the "down" category.

Not sure anyone was saying Stork earned all-world honors? Right now he's serviceable and allows the oline to function as a singular unit (which makes everyone better).

Stork had a pretty bad start to the game, but he manned up and did his job much better towards the 2nd quarter and half.

We also don't care who he's better than if it equated to #12 not taking hits. Regardless of it being because of #12 moving or Stork blocking. Really don't care. Offense has looked at its best with that OL combination.

People can feel free not to listen to Bedard or read my posting on him. Arguing that Stork wasn't a down, in this blowout?

C'mon.

No, I'm not. You're making a ridiculous argument. I'm responding to it. Rather, I was. I'm done with this silliness. Take it up with Bedard.

Towards the Stork thing, and this ties back in with how much time Bedard has to break down the film, he did have a few negative plays that were costly. I think when Bedard skims the film he looks for plays that were either way positive or way negative then identifies who didn't execute. On the goalline hurry-up series, Stork didn't generate enough push off the snap to win the LOS and it did contribute to those runs failing. So while he had what I (without in-depth review but the game moves slow to me in real-time) would call a good, serviceable game, his negative plays were on snaps that stood out. In a vacuum it's easy to neg his game but overall I thought he looked pretty good. Regardless of any of that he is playing as well as any center this team has had (and yes, I'm including Woody) and he reminds me a lot of LeCharles Bentley.

Back to Bedard:

Health is a factor with Revis/Talib. When all is said an done, Talib's going to be out and Revis is going to be doing a good job.

I don't think he was up, but I don't think he was down as far as his play goes. He made stupid mental errors with the 3+ penalties though, I guess in retrospect that is enough to put him "down", as he cost us yards before the snap, but I don't feel as if his play itself was all that bad.

This is purely from memory, but I believe he does run that outside zone from under center quite a bit, if for nothing more than timing. It's a fairly long developing play to effectively sell the playfake of those zone runs from the linemen that running it from gun would look more like a zone read option.
I feel ever since his neck injury he mostly runs plays from the shotgun for whatever reason. The old Indianapolis stretch run/PA play is no longer in his game . Thats why Iam confused when people say its the same system as in Indianapolis.

Talib has really come on in the last 2 seasons, but he will certainly always be a health risk until he proves he isn't. That said, he's still not Revis. Wasn't Talib also torched for a few deep (like 60-80yard) TDs early in the season?

Our passing D still hasn't given up a 40 yarder and Revis is a big part of it.

What you saw on Sunday is that Gray is now filling the Blount role. Give him a hole and he'll make the most out of it. When holes were closed, things were more dicey. Once he has to think about things, he's going to have issues. They still don't have an every down RB.

"knows" that they are calling around about running backs.

Thanks for that. Admittedly I haven't watched a lot of Denver and when he plays the Patriots I tend to drink nervously :). I'll have to go back and check some stuff to get a better feel for what they're running.

Martin (Bucs) would be a good guy (via trade) if they could keep him healthy.

Browner can play in a straight line. How effective he is will depend on how they're calling games.

Says Dennard was not deactivated because of his skills, but the match up. Feels he has been solid this year. Says that the Bears were a big offense and Browner was a better match up.

Felger Felgerizes the comment to say that Bedard admitted that Dennard isn't very good.

Thinks the Dennard situation was because of Matchups. Thinks Dennard has played fine to this point and will be a valuable piece going forward. Thinks both Browner and Dennard will be active in this game.

Thinks Dennard will be very important for the team moving forward.

That's where I come from as well. If his penalties and bad snap are enough in-and-of themselves to call Stork "down", I won't argue with it much. But saying that Stork played a poor game even beyond those highly visible gaffes doesn't jibe with what my eyes told me.

Bedard: Wouldn't mind Jackson. Even with Gronk/LaFell/Edelman, easier to defend in the middle of the field.

Not going to be their best until they get an explosive edge guy. (Ok, now he's back in my head)

Yeah

In this one's head....why is anyone listening to Bedard?

I don't know what is worse, Felger for not understanding that having Dennard out of the game is not a slight or Mazz for agreeing it isn't a slight and then proceeding to say that he agrees with Greg that it's not a slight but that Dennard just isn't that good. Wait, what? Do these guys even have the brainpower to keep breathing?

Good stuff here. Thanks to both gentlemen for posting this and sparing us the Felgerrhea.
