We. Have. Revis.

Fixed it for you. :p

Yeah. Revis is an historically good cornerback. He's possibly the best defensive player in the NFL (JJ Watt's the only guy I'd put on par with him), and a couple years ago I would have told you he's the best non-quarterback player in the NFL, period. He's so good that even in a 'down year' he's the best defensive back in the league.

I wasn't alive for it, but my father is comparing this to Mike Haynes leaving in his prime... in reverse.

Between Revis and Jamie Collins and Chandler Jones, I don't think the New England Patriots have EVER had 3 athletic freaks on the field at the same time in their history.

Now let's lock down that 6'4" 235lb Browner kid at ballhawking Safety (to go along with our existing ballhawking Safety McCourty) and let's set some defensive turnover records.

This truly is going to be fun to watch.

If they get Browner, then the draft turns into a TE and DT (gotta stop that run) fest.

What about WR?

I remember watching Haynes play for the Pats, and I remember the day he left. One of the saddest things I can remember in Pats' history. In my mind, he was one of the top 5 players ever to play for the Patriots, possibly top 3 (along with Brady and John Hannah). He's one of the 5 best CBs that I have ever seen play in my lifetime. Revis is another. So yeah, it's like Mike Haynes leaving in his prime ... in reverse.

BTW, here's a nice piece on Haynes' views on the Seattle secondary and their impact:

Mike Haynes outlines Seattle Seahawks' dominance - NFL.com

A few points of particular interest:

It's no coincidence that coach Pete Carroll shows clips of Haynes and Hayes to teach his cornerbacks how to play press-man coverage.

Haynes elaborated on that importance of "hours of intense studying and constant communication" with talented pass rushers and rangy linebackers. Understanding his own defense and the likelihood of the opponent's intentions allowed him to play with confidence and dictated his technique choice.

"Using a myriad of different pre- and post-snap techniques," Haynes continued, "a DB can lessen a receiver's confidence, cause confusion and challenge his decision-making ability."

We saw the Seahawks do that to the Bronco's receivers. That's what I think Revis can bring to this secondary.

What about WR?

The problem last year was not at WR.

It was at TE. When Gronk was not out there (most of the season) we had ***tsalad at TE.

That put enormous pressure and coverage all over those WR's. It was predictable that there would be trouble there as a result - - with no TE threat, they had to multitask far too much coverage.

I thought the 3 rookies did damn well given that perspective and will only improve in year two. I'm also intrigued to see how this Mark Harrison looks in TC.

My concern now (if they sign Browner) is to focus on TE - - that will have a huge effect on the WR situation.

Steve Smith is coming later today;)

I hope you're kidding.

-I don't like his schtick.

-He's 5'9"

-He's 35 and 1/2 when the season starts

-He'll be expensive - - spend the dough on Woodyard and Browner, then go TE/DT/OL in the draft.

-Let BB drive up the pricetage the Ravens will pay for him.

Agreed. I've seen enough of Mulligan. I think they could use two more actually, either both in the draft or one in free agency.

Everyone can breathe easy now. Revis' "business manager" has officially confirmed that Revis has signed with the Patriots:

Excellent!! The t's have been crossed the i's have been dotted. Revis is officially a New England Patriot! Now BB begins to scheme EVIL things for offenses to face in 2014 using his versatile new defensive weapon!! Unlike Talib, Revis can be moved all over the field to cover any kind of receiver!

Talib did that too last year (including covering a TE or two like the amazing shutout he pitched on Jimmy Graham).

It's not WHERE on the field Talib can play, it's whether he can GET ONTO the field.

I have nothing but respect and gratitude for Aqib. He surprised me and turned into an enthusiastic and good soldier here. Good on him for getting paid - - he deserved that.

I went to bed before all this broke last night. So I hop in the car this morning before the 6AM shows start on either of the local radio stations. The first national show says ".......well you have the Broncos going all in on Talib and the Patriots going all in on Revis."

WHAT? I'm thinking ok what does all in mean? 4/60, 5/70....? What did it take to land this guy? They switch topics without the details so I switch. Amendelara second in almost verbatim says the Patriots are all-in on Revis. I'm losing my mind waiting on details but none come. Luckily it's 5:55 and it's a long 5 minutes. Sports Hub update comes on and they lead with yesterday the Patriots lost Talib but last night they caught a bigger fish signing Revis to a...........one year 12 million dollar deal.

I don't know what's more shocking. Landing him or the fact it's a one year deal with no huge signing bonus. So my first thought is he's looking at having a monster year and cashing in next year which fine I'll take a motivated Revis under those terms for one year vs an unmotivated Talib with all that money gaurantted any day of the week. I figure Revis MUST have put in the contract he cannot be franchised. They come back on and say no in fact that Patriots can franchise him and the NFL estimate is 14.3M for 2015. So a two year deal would cost 26.3M with no long term risk or cap hit.

First off kudos to Bill for once again sticking to his values and pulling this off. Huge deal. Second kudos to Revis for taking a little less to come and win. I really didn't think he had it in him. I'm sure the Browns or some other team would have given him a ton of dough up front and more AAV. Third LOL @ John Elway who figured he had the win/win of adding to his secondary while making the Patriots weaker. You overpaid on a big injury risk and opened the doors for the Patriots defense to becomes better and less of an injury risk.

Another perspective. The Broncos are paying Demarcus Ware 13.5 million this year and the Patriots giving Revis only 12M. Talk about value. Ware isn't the player he was and might not be worth half that any longer.

This x1,000. Well said.

Nailed it. Nothing to add on my side. Thanks.

I have nothing more to add than that. Well done.

Following me around from thread to thread asking me is trolling, yes. If the two sides agree to an extension, it can happen. If they don't, it can't. You know this. You're just being an ass.

Stalking someone on a message board that has like 10 active threads on a busy day. You're a freak.

What percentage of threads that you've posted in is someone allowed to also post in before it hits the stalker threshold? I'm sure I could consult my local law enforcement but I figure a victim of stalking such as yourself would have the deets.

Darrelle Revis' deal with #Patriots includes an option for 2015 at $20M, including a $12 roster bonus.

Revis got a $10M signing bonus and has a $1.5M gtd base salary for 2014. Another $500K available in per-game roster bonuses

If #Patriots exercise option before end of 2014 league year, he'd get a $12M roster bonus April 1, 2015 and have a base of $7.5M in '15.

That is a club option for 2015 on Revis, per details filed with the NFLPA. Must be exercised by end of '14 league year.
