Welker is on pace for 20TDs this year. Amendola may not reach 20 receptions this year lool. He's been absolute garbage...even when he's been on the field this year, he either stinks it up with drops or poor route running.
First of all, he has started a total of 2 games this year. In those 2 games started, he's caught 16 balls for a 10 ypc average. We all know of the great first game, so let's give him some credit there. Let's also give him some credit for coming back from a pretty serious injury and only missing 3 games while we're at it.
I agree with you that he hasn't looked as good since he's come back, but he played limited snaps last game and didn't start. Yesterday he was lit up like an Xmas tree and it looked like he was out before he even hit the ground.
I hear what you're saying...but I think we need to examine the horrible decision to allow Welker to walk separately. In other words, it's not too fair to blame it on Amendola. Letting Welker walk was a dumb move on the management's part, but it's only been a very small sample so far. There's still a very good chance that Amendola ends up being a nice part of this offense, not just in 2013 but also for a few yrs to come afterwards.
But it just so happens that he is injured again with his 2nd serious injury this season and we're not even at the halfway point.
Maybe we should be certain that it is indeed what you deem as a "serious injury" first before jumping to these conclusions.
Amendola hasn't lived up to our expectations so far, and letting WWW go was a mistake (aside from anything to do with Amendola), but one thing that Danny Amendola is NOT is a soft player. He may be unlucky in some aspects, but he came back from that first one in only 3 weeks, just like his potentially career ending injury last year where he only missed 3 games.
There's a decent possibility that he'll be fine, and that they simply hold him out of this Sunday's NYJ game due to be cautious. It's probably the best move to make considering the viscous hit that he took. That said, he very well may only end up missing one total game from what you said was his second "serious injury."
