Umm...no NFL superstar athletes typically don't take the longer route. They take whatever route gets them back on the field as soon as possible. How many players take HGH or steroid to try to speed their recoveries? Its this type of drive an motivation that made them superstar athletes to begin with. I can't imagine any player saying "no thanks coach, I'm not going to do this relatively routine procedure that will get me back on the field for the playoffs because I'm afraid of the low risk of complications". The point is if you are afraid of pushing your body through pain and possibly causing yourself permanent injury then the NFL is probably not for you.
well the Jets have improved, the Fins are actually a good team and the Steelers should be an easy win. We need not only Gronk but we need at least another warm body at TE.
Every team in the league knows we have no TE so that brings more pressure to the WRs. I dont want to rush Gronk back but if he is not ready we need to explore a deal for a TE
And all of whom the Patriots could beat more easily with him than without him.
My thought was you kept Gronkowski off PUP with the hope he would play by the Falcons, Bengals and Saints stretch, if that is not going to happen in my opinion you just shut him down through the bye week which allows him 5 more weeks to get right. Even if we only win 1 game before the bye we come out of it at 5-4 in this division we will likely still be at least tied for first.
Gronkowski being out helps develop the rookies as well which should be the primary focus for the first half of the season anyway.
Yeah that's sort of obvious brother..
The question is Gronkowski necessary enough to risk reinjury just to have him out there or to err on the side of caution.
This guy is a joke...made out of glass
This whole story is just amazing. He broke a forearm. People break bones all the time. And yet it's been a year now and it's still not better. That just blows me away. How, with today's medicine, can a relatively simple bone break end up in this kind of situation? Unbelievable.
It should be apparent by now that he won't be out there if there's a risk of re-injury, that is the hold up after all.
Intelligent players with the mindset of career longevity vs short term gains don't have the surgery. Playing through pain is a sprained ankle or knee, not a broken surgically repaired arm that isn't 100%. One sidelines you for a few weeks, the other can ruin an entire career. The entire situation reeks of negligence by the medical staff, and lack of smarts from the player, family and agent.
according to a new article from the Herald, The pats are "unsure" if he will play or not because Gronkowski hasnt made a decision. also, Dr. Andrews didn't "fully" clear him
At this point, it's getting rediculous. Gronk has to just make a decision and get out there and play. Even if its for limited snaps to east him back in. It almost seems to me its the "derrick rose" effect. no one is 100% in football.
and you have to imagine its frustrating for the players on his team who are out there playing with deep thigh bruises, torn groins, pulled hamstrings to be with Gronk out there on the practice field, then he "doesnt feel like it" when it comes game time.
but, lets see they "dont expect him" because he hasnt told them he was playing. But who knows maybe he does
If he is waiting for the doctor to tell him he is 100% and he has no chance of reinjury then we will be waiting a very long time.
FOXBORO — Rob Gronkowski’s return remains on hold.
The Patriots tight end “probably won’t play” tomorrow against the Saints because Dr. James Andrews, who was used this week as a consultant, has not cleared Gronkowski for game action, a source told the Herald late last night.
A second source said the Patriots remained completely unsure of Gronkowski’s status for tomorrow’s game against the Saints because the team was waiting for the player to make a decision.
It’s become a complicated process that has taken a variety of twists and turns, particularly in recent weeks. Last month, the Herald reported Gronkowski and the Patriots were at a divide over his readiness for game action. The team was optimistic about a potential Week 2 debut, while Gronkowski eyed Week 6 as far back as August.
Now that Gronkowski, who is officially listed as questionable after being limited in practice this week, and the Pats are in Week 6, the urgency and the questions over the uncertainty have appeared to hit their peak, especially a few days after the Herald reported the renowned Andrews was expected to offer a consultation in relation to that decision about his return. However, Andrews was not required to completely sign off on Gronkowski’s availability.
It should be apparent by now that he won't be out there if there's a risk of re-injury, that is the hold up after all.
