Brady needs to learn to respect his rookie WR's

Maybe if the players on the other team would just stop pushing and hitting these young guys, the rookies would feel better and their self esteem would be higher.

Roger Goodell needs to look into this because, if it matters to even one person...

Did you guys like Marino whenever he did this $h!t?

Be honest.

at the end Marino had lots of bad rookie WR's and RB's he did have a great defense in back of him but after Duper and Clayton they give him no one to throw the ball to the last 6 years of he's career. Marino never got to win a SB because of that

I get you OP but something sounds off about saying Brady needs to learn how to respect his rookie WRs.

I think that's disrespectful to Brady. Be nice, be understanding, be patient...sure. But respect? When did that stop being earned on the Pats? There is nothing to respect about them yet. They need to earn it.

i don't remember vrabel and the boys yelling at brady after he had bad games during his rookie season.

I find it hilarious that brady never yelled at moss when he gave up on passes that were later intercepted.

Last week, Belichick said Brady's the best leader he's ever been around. Read Brady's comments here, easy to see why: The Blitz with Jeff Howe & Karen Guregian | Boston Herald

"It’s overall execution of our whole offense," Brady told WEEI's Dennis & Callahan. "It’s not the receiver position. It’s every position, including the quarterback position. So it’s the quarterback position, the running backs, tight ends, receivers, we all have to be on the same page. And until we are, we’re going to struggle.

...
"I’m not making all the right plays, either," Brady said. "It’s not like the rookie receivers are messing up all the time -- no, not at all. ...They’re working really hard. Their attitude is great. It’s been fun to work with them. Hopefully it all pays off in November and December when if we can ever get to a point where we have a lot of our guys back and healthy and playing really well."

Edit: Field Yates has a bit more from Brady:

"That's how football is, it's a game of emotion," he said. "And once the emotion wears off, you try to take a clinical analysis of what really happened, so you have to take the emotion out of it at some point. It's hard to take the emotion out of it in the first quarter of a football game -- football is an emotional game. We all have our ups and downs and we've all developed enough trust in each other where whatever happens on game day happens. That's just -- afterward, you have to figure out the reasons why we're not executing well."

Despite his occasional appearance on offense, Vrabel was a linebacker and on defense. If somebody from the defensive unit was criticizing the offense, that would be a problem. 2001 was also Vrabel's first year on the team, so he wasn't in a position to criticize anybody at that point. It is also well established that the QB, not the WRs, is the leader of the offense. Anyone other than the coach who criticizes that leader invites failure because it implies they are second-guessing the offensive decision-maker and lack confidence in that leader. Not really the same thing as rookie WRs, who follow the QBs lead.

As for Moss, he was a Hall of Fame caliber receiver with his own unique personality. That unique personality has been well documented over the years, but the upside to handling him properly was he had freakish abilities and could contribute in a way few others in the NFL could. He put up record setting numbers in 2007, so he did earn Brady's respect. If Moss would shut down when somebody got in his face, and I don't know if he would, then probably not a good idea to get in his face if you like offensive production. Rookies are not Randy Moss, a veteran superstar at the position, and will be handled differently. If you are suggesting that all rookie receivers should receive that treatment, then I would agree the moment they catch 20 or more TDs in a season. That output earns tolerance and individual treatment.

Respect needs to be earned.

No, respect is something automatically afforded to people unless they do something that should otherwise detract from it.

I don't walk up to people I have just met with that attitude.

I think 'respect' is the wrong word. He is being as hard on those rookies as he has been on a 10 year vet. What he needs to do better, by his own admission, is try not to point the finger and show it so much on the field.

There are certain types of people in life; some can accept criticism and being shouted at drives them on (I like to think I fall in to that category myself). However there are some that shouting at and pointing the finger at them in public, in front of millions of viewers, does them no ounce of confidence.

Being a great leader and coach is about people managing and knowing how to deal with 53 guys who all have different personalities and deal with criticism in different ways.

As a leader, you don't call your team mates out in public. You take them aside on the sidelines and you talk through it. You don't point blame and you don't ridicule someone in front of the team.

He has respect for them. You're a fool to think otherwise. He's just being as hard on those guys as he is on himself and everyone else around him.

Brady was 100% right in his press conference. His body language was not what it normally is. You can be hard on someone without pointing at them and losing your cool.

"Excuse Mr. Brady? Please stop be a meanie pants because it hurts my feelings, I could really use a huddle hug".

because without them, we aren't going anywhere this year.

Other rookie WR's having success early on already. DeAndre Hopkins, Robert Woods, Coderelle Patterson, etc.

Our rookie WR's obviously have a lot of talent. Dobson rarely dropped a pass in his last year at College, yet he dropped so many passes on Thursday. Dobson actually had his man beat a few times but just couldn't catch the ball, indicating nerves and lack of focus. Thompson looked great in preseason but ***** the bed in regular season so far.

Why are our rookie WR's so full of nerves while other rookie WR's are already succeeding?

Probably because they have a hall of fame QB yelling at them and belittling them. When you worry too much about dropping a pass, you end of dropping more passes. Their confidence looks shot.

Brady needs to learn how to work with these youngsters because they will be the difference between a playoff run and one-and-done.

I'm sure Tom Brady would love your advice on how to act as a veteran QB.
I think he would just have so much to learn from you. I bet he didn't realize he is scaring the WRs into dropping passes.

It used to be the job of the coaches to train the players. Brady has always respected any receiver that could get open and catch the ball. If that didn't happen, he'd stop throwing the ball to them. That system has worked for 13 years (even with players of relatively little talent). This year, it is Brady's job to be the teacher, and he must keep throwing to the rookles no matter how badly they perform, It will take Tom a bit of time to adapt.

The title of this thread misses the point. Brady will respect players that earn it, and that should be a very high bar.

What Brady needs to do is check his temper tantrums at the door and behave like a veteran except in rare instances when the team is listless and they need a shot of adrenalin from #12. Repeated histrionics on the field and on the bench quickly lose their effectiveness and get tuned out.

If getting chewed out for their mistakes puts Dobson and Thompkins in a state of mind where they can't perform optimally, then why would you expect them to make a catch in an AFCCG, or even a Super Bowl?

The to win a Super Bowl you need winners.

Grow up. Brady is not spoiled. He's earned everything he has.

You sound like a spoiled *****.

PJ, bringing out the wood only a fews days after Yom Kippur. I love the passion!
Brady is not spoiled…but cares the heck out of doing the best he can do. I prefer the fire over acceptance.

Your comparing social graces to life on a football team, they're not comparable, that's the whole problem with posters bringing this up, if your an elementary school teacher or a boss at Walmart with people working for you at minimum wage, motivating them is different than motivation on a football field, its a silly comparison that been thrown around too much the last few days. These guys are now professionals in the NFL, you don't think they're used to coaches and team mates yelling. If the leader of their team is an intense dude that yells, I'd argue that that will raise the intensity of the whole team. Time will tell but my money is that these guys will be better players because of what Tom's doing now.

Are they, though? Their confidence looks shaky already.

It's bringing back memories of Chad Jackson and Brandon Tate.

Rookie WR's settling in is all about confidence and being comfortable. Bradys admitted body language and yelling at them isn't going to help either of those.

He needs to put on his baby gloves and be more positive. These kids are 12-15 years younger than him too. I'm sure being his whipping boy isn't helping them shake their rookie jitters.

what a crock of *****. This isn't peewee ball dude. These are grown ass men that need to step up and make plays. Brady has already publicly stated that he made his own fair share of mistakes so he isn't blaming anyone. The problem is that whenever we see what appears to be an underthrown or overthrown pass, we say it was a bad throw by Brady when in actuality, It could be the receiver running an incorrect route, or stopping when he should have been bolting...or vice versa.

Brady wants to win, and when he is performing poorly, or others around him are performing poorly, he displays it 100% and he has always done that. No need to handle these grown ass men with kid gloves. If they screw up, they screw up and should be called out on it.

These are young receivers and will hopefully get better sooner rather than later, but with ATL coming up, on the road in two weeks...AND a tough schedule after that for a few weeks, they literally are out of time. You want to see some serious fan rage? Watch what happens if we get blown out in ATL.

At the end of the Day, Brady DID take a gamble that could potentially cost him Millions in 2015 in order to free up cap space THIS year, so we would have cap room to retain/purchase great talent and he was rewarded with a total b!tch slap by the front office.

Look what Denver gave Manning? Now look what NE gave Brady. They are both in the back 3 of their careers. We only have a good TB12 for 3 years or so)if lucky and NO injuries) and ever year after that will be in a constant state of decline. If we want to win another SB, we need to put talent on the team that can do so.

Now we might have that talent, but they still need a veteran WR who can take some pressure off of them, not some injury prone scrub like Amendola.

All these morons glorifying Amendola for having a gutsy week 1, PUHLEEAAASE...we got exactly what we thought we would get from him...when healthy, a great performance...but he is NEVER healthy. The man only played in 13 NFL games(counting week 1 btw) since the 2011 season...He played in ONE game in 2011 and only 11 games last year because he is ALWAYS INJURED. In fact, he has only played 1 full season his entire career and even that year he only had less than 700 yards and 3 TDs.

To the people drinking the pats koolaid, complaining about those of us that are b!tching, S T F U...we have every right to b!tch. This product this team is putting on the field is pathetic right now and they need to make a move to bring someone in here to take some pressure off these rookies, someone who can catch the damn ball. Look at who is available right now for them to sign:

Brandon Lloyd
Laurent Robinson
Devery Henderson
Braylon Edwards
Andy Tanner
David Nelson
Austin Collie
Lavelle Hawkins
Mohamed Massaquoi
Donte’ Stallworth
Steve Breaston
Josh Cribbs
Michael Jenkins
Deion Branch
Early Doucet
Ramses Barden
Anthony Armstrong
Devin Aromashodu
Chaz Schilens
Mike Thomas
Courtney Roby
Chad Johnson
Jabar Gaffney
Derek Hagan
Tiquan Underwood
Matthew Willis
Naaman Roosevelt
Deon Butler
Roscoe Parrish
Brandon Banks
Patrick Crayton
Sammie Stroughter
Jason Hill
Jordan Shipley
Jordan Norwood
Brian Robiskie
Ruvell Martin
Patrick Turner
Greg Camarillo
Legedu Naanee
Mardy Gilyard
Devin Thomas
Adrian Arrington
Michael Clayton
Terrence Austin
Richard Goodman
Terrance Copper
Demetrius Williams
Brett Swain
Maurice Stovall
Jerheme Urban
DeMarco Sampson
Devon Wylie
Jaymar Johnson
Quan Cosby
Ronald Johnson
Chastin West
Lance Long
Tim Toone
Terrence Toliver
Nathan Palmer
Jeff Fuller
Jamar Newsome
B.J. Cunningham

There are options and I am quite sure MANY of them are ready to play, even if they only get the role of Lloyd last year..."u go run on duh sideline...run fast ok and catch da balls"

Your damn right I am frustrated,How much longer do any of you think Edelman can play like this? Do you realize that he has never played a full NFL season, or that he only played 9 games last year due to injury? 13 the year before?

This team is totally screwed and might not even make the playoffs if the Dolphins continue to win...you all better thank god we didn't have to play them one of the first few weeks.

potential pats losses

2-0 now

Atlanta
Saints
Steelers
Panthers
Broncos
Texans
Dolphins(we will probably lose 1 against them)
Ravens

8-8 then and that is assuming both Buffalo and NY don't beat us at all, that is 5-1 in our division. Not at all out of reality for this teams pathetic, anemic, mind bogglingly awful offense.

That is Also ASSUMING we get Gronk back and he performs well which I doubt he will do seeing how there is no other TE or Slot receiver threat.

Panthers & Steelers? Really?

There again, you're another one of the clowns writing off the offense after 2 games

Hardly. Man management is a huge part of being a captain and a coach. Everyone gets dealt with in different ways. Ask any coach this and he'll tell you the same thing.

Simple fact is there is a time and a place and a way in which you conduct yourself as a leader. Brady lost his cool and his composure. He pointed the finger of blame at someone. That's not how you conduct yourself as a leader.

Whether you're a manager at work training someone up in a craft, or you're a Quarterback and team captain trying to teach someone to play football, the principle of it all doesn't change. The intangibles of being a leader and an example setter do not change.

I don't see a single player on that very long list of receivers that I have reason to believe would improve the team. The only ones worth considering are either unwilling to play (e.g., Lloyd), or physically unable to do so (the ones with concussion issues).

There are good reasons why they are all unemployed.
