The Official Belichick 7/24 Presser Thread

Re: BB's Presser on Wednesday..

Am I the only one surprised Hernandez didn't try to juke out the police when they came knockin? Dude probably could of made it pretty far before they would be able to bring him down.

Nota bene that they sent some rather large stadt polizei dudes to corral him. Not much running room.

Re: BB's Presser on Wednesday..

True, bottom line is whatever BB says or doesn't say Mediots are gonna blow it up and make their own story line or ESPN & NFLN will just run a negative spin on it and of course usual suspects ( Mort, King) will be primed by producers to run with it Keep Throwin Fuel on fire.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand that's why Belichick doesn't ever say anything. The press can say whatever they want - and nothing Belichick does will change that - but there's really no way to misquote him when all he says is "only gonna talk about the players here in camp."

And if the police shot at him, he'd not catch any fire.

Edit: I forgot that he catch a few but drop the most, but a few is enough.

Re: BB's Presser on Wednesday..

I did enjoy this tidbit from Ben Volin's twitter:

TV reporter told me she wants to attend Belichick press conference tomorrow because "sports reporters don't ask tough questions." Uhhh, OK

Get your popcorn ready, people are coming with the hard questions.

Reporter: Does it bother you, that you had a murderer on your team ?
BB:I have no comment on that.
Reporter:What example does this set for the kids.?
BB: I have no comment on that.
Reporter:How can you not have any comment on that?
BB:I dont know..I think we have covered that.

Really dont know what he can address . "unfortunate", "condolences to the lloyd family"."We take all the players we sign seriously" -something generic to that effect. Thats all. He will not even utter hernandez's name . There maybe some legal bit too here.

Agree With Legal Ramifications on wording with AHern I'm goin with basic Yeah it's unfortunate we'll work with what we have here now and go on get ready for this and that & other thing type answers.
AS for Tebow yeah we brought him here because he's a very good athlete and where ever we need him to fill in we'll use him there lol

But Belichick knows that there is no such thing as "once and for all." Do you honestly believe that if he answers all questions tomorrow, then that will be it? All member of the media will collectively agree "ok we will stop asking questions going forward about this issue"...?

Puh-leeze. All that would end up doing would be encouraging more of the same going forward.

Re: BB's Presser on Wednesday..

The neanderthal press are beginning to salivate, suspect by 2:00 PM they will be in full fledged drool.....

No matter what he says, it will not be good enough..

Borges: Time to man up, Bill Belichick | Boston Herald

There are a lot of things Bill Belichick doesn’t have to say today when he faces the media for the first time since Aaron Hernandez was charged with first degree murder, but there is one thing he absolutely cannot say.
He cannot say this is a distraction.

Aaron Hernandez will be silent in that court, but Bill Belichick would be unwise to follow his lead. If he’s smart, he will put that fine Wesleyan education to good use for once and play this one straight. Answer the questions like a man, not a child. Reveal a tiny bit of the disappointment and sadness he must feel over this and make clear that the death of Odin Lloyd and the fall of

Bill Belichick speaks! But will he say anything? | Sports - Patriots | providencejournal.com | The Providence Journa - The Providence Journal

By meeting a day earlier with the media, Belichick may be hoping to put l'affaire Hernandez behind him and concentrate solely on football once camp opens.
Good luck with that.
The case -- and its repercussions -- will be ongoing throughout what could be a challenging season for the perennial AFC East champions.

Re: BB's Presser on Wednesday..

I hope he says nothing and tells the media not to ask the players anything.

Re: BB's Presser on Wednesday..

Reiss has a much more measure take that's very much in line with how I've been thinking this will go.

Wake-up call: Belichick steps to mike - New England Patriots Blog - ESPN Boston

One would imagine he'll read some type of statement to begin, then mention that there is little else he can add.

That won't stop the questions from coming.

It also won't stop Belichick from possibly cutting things off early.

As Reiss says, what else can he really say (and no, I don't care to read Borges or listen to talk radio whiners to get their suggestions.)

Honestly, I expect that by the time the season starts, Belichick will have been questioned and second-guessed more for drafting AH, despite red flags, than the feds have been for letting the Tsarnaevs slip through the cracks.

Re: BB's Presser on Wednesday..

Anybody have an opinion who might have the best coverage of this? I want to record it as I think it will be epic (BB, that is!) :D

Re: BB's Presser on Wednesday..

Did everyone in the media just fall off the pumpkin truck?

Today's media feeds off raw emotion and eschews dispassionate facts.

Also, look at a presidential press conference. Do any questions get answered? Are there newsworthy revelations? Anything much besides platitudes? So why do they suddenly expect anything different here? It's not a court of law where a judge can force a witness to answer a specific question directly with threat of jail for contempt if uncooperative.

Going way out on a limb here and predicting dozens of post conference columns whining that BB was not forthcoming (i.e. no sobbing & rending of garments)

I only wish that major media would follow up on important issues like the travesty of the Tsarnaevs "falling through the cracks" and other scandals of importance with a fraction of the outrage and diligence expended against Kraft and BB

They don't. This is payback for the media and they want to extract their pound of flesh from Belichick for all the times his unceremoniously dismissed them over the past decade. They think this time he HAS to answer their questions. They've declared it so!

I have heard this a lot. "BB has to answer the questions. Show some emotion." My question is, why? What if he reads a statement and says he won't answer any questions as it's an ongoing investigation? What will happen? I don't know what to expect today but I think regardless if BB takes 32 questions on AH and answers each one thoroughly, the questions will still come as the days go by. I'd presume that Belichick believes this and he will say that from today on he won't answer any questions on the subject. And I'm sure that will rub a few the wrong way but he has a team to run and do what's best for it.

Re: BB's Presser on Wednesday..

I'm going fluke fishing....I'll catch the drama this afternoon right here when I get back in...hope you fellers don't get arrested for horse cruelty......:deadhorse2:

I hear ye. But that would be journalism and not much of that exists in the here and now of the planet known as Twitter Earth.

Re: BB's Presser on Wednesday..

BB will issue a prepared statement reviewed by the ownership and legal staff. It will 'cover' everything he wishes to communicate it wil basically repeat the previous statements issued by the organization and ownership.

He will then say in some manner that is the only thing he as to say on the subject and the response to all other AH questions will be that he is there to talk about the team, AH is no longer a member of the team and further questions will be that he is there to talk about the NE Patriots and that AH is no longer a mmeber of the team.

The media whill howl and be outraged and rip BB, he and the fans won't give a flying..

I will laugh at the media outrage.
