Thats just it IMO, I don't think he will have a "position" either, but will play a role, a Joker to the offense if you will. It with out a doubt will be an experiment.
I would have preferred that the Patriots didn't make this roster move mgcolby. I am still hopeful that Tebow is released once Belichick has had a better look at him. That said, I will come around to supporting Tebow because he's now a Patriots player. I don't like it because of the "fit" component as discussed, but I'll do it.

So his performance contributed to the JETS losses last year? You can't have it both ways

In Denver, he became the starting QB, and led the team to 8-7 and a playoff win in two partial seasons as the part time starter, when the other starting QB led the team to a 4-14 record during that same time. In NY, he had a few plays in some games, but never started a game. He only threw 8 passes all year, for crying out loud.

Quit being so ridiculous, because you're clowning yourself.

Sorry if I'm late to the party, but.... after Tebow's miracle win against Pittsburgh in the playoffs, New England demonstrates exactly why Tebow is a bad choice for QB....

I thought it was the worst move for the Jets to take Tebow when their main div rival just demolished him....

Now NE signs Tebow? Unless he's a legit contender for first string at a particular position, why bother?

Everyone hyperventilating about this move needs to pull a bag over their mouth and calm the **** down.

Tebow is an upgrade at QB3. He's got more experience than Kafka, has won more regular season games as a starter than Kafka, has won more playoff games as a starter than Kafka and he can play more roles than Kafka.

That's why he's here. The reason there won't be a media circus is that there is not going to be a QB controversy here, plain and simple. No fans or columnists are going to be calling for the Pats to bench Brady for Tebow. That's what happened in Denver and NY where they didn't have a starter whose job was secure. That won't happen here.

It's a good move because Tebow will be able to help on special teams and Kafka wouldn't have been able to. This versatility allows us to keep 3 QBs. It's a good move. It is a value add at the bottom of the roster, that's it.

yeah...no media circus...have you even turned a radio or TV station on yet today?...I was in Dave's Super market in East Greenwich today when the news broke....had to be the entire shift and customers at the delic counter talking non stop about it. It is ALREADY a huge distraction because THAT is exactly who Tim Tebow IS....the biggest , polarizing weapon of mass distraction ever unleashed in pro sports.

As far as no fans clamoring to bench Brady?...seriously????...I make the over /under on that one to be 12 a.m. TONIGHT. The "Brady Declining" thread should be at 1000 posts by then.

Relax. Breathe in...breathe out... It is only June

It is June. Dewayne Cherrington family should be pissed, but ...
Relax. Breathe in...breathe out... breathe in...
Roster size is 90, not 53.
Breathe out...
Breathe in...
This may just be a Belichick "FU" to Michael Silver.
Breathe out...

The only reason I can possibly think of is the Read-Option. That said, I wouldn't want Tim Tebow on the field ahead of Tom Brady at any time. It defeats the purpose of a Tom Brady lead O.

Welp.

They're really grasping at straws now. Nothing would make me happier than if Tebow became a monster TE/Fullback for the Pats. But this move has McDaniels written all over it, and until proven otherwise, Josh gets absolutely zero benefit of the doubt where Tebow is concerned. Remember, this is the guy who moved up in the first round to pick Tebow as the Broncos QB of the future. Barf.

I suspect you could be correct as to whom tipped the scale in favor of this move for BB. We all KNOW there's a rationalization behind the decision but I can't help but fear they have underestimated the damage this certain player can have on a young core roster.

I hear Woody Johnson called Bob Kraft to ask him when he plans to have the Tebow press conference so he can introduce himself to the Boston media. When Kraft told Woody they don't hold press conferences for back up QBs who they sign, Woody could only respond "But it is Tebow".

This move at this time smells of one thing........ After Tebow's release from the Jest, BB must have sent word to him that if he was willing to {insert whatever grand scheme BB dreamed up for him}, and forget about QB in any fashion except injury to TFB, and even Mallett, there was a spot here for him (at least to compete for a roster spot).

Tebow took a pass cuz he still had dreams of being a starting QB somewhere, Finally came calling when it became apparent that no one was gonna sign him for that..... So he calls back and says "okay, what do you want from me" and the deal comes together quick.

As a QB, I think he blows... As anything else..... I have no idea, but I'm willing to give it a whirl if there is little risk, and high reward.

What if all this means is that BB thinks he can be an improvement at the #3 quarterback spot over Kafka?

The only way I can see Tebow making the team is if he proves capable in multiple roles -- emergency third/scout team QB, H-back/tight end/short-yardage specialist, special teams ace. I think this is what BB has in mind in terms of saving roster space for other players.

Your histrionics are duly noted but the biggest story of the last month has been 1 player skipping voluntary workouts. The media will make a big story about anything they can on the off season, that hardly constitutes a media circus.

If you honestly think that in the midst of the season this team will be fielding questions about Tebow the way the Jets did I'm going to feel compelled to contact your relatives because you may be experiencing the onset of senility.

Here, go to the mirror and say "Media and fans will demand that Tebow take snaps away from Brady" and see how many syllables you can get through before you realize how ridiculous you sound.

Re: Relax. Breathe in...breathe out... It is only June

already there's some here-to-fore fringe member here with like 8 posts the last three years going from thead to thread screaming "TEBOW!!!!!"..."he scored TD'S!!!!"..."Jets used him wrong!!!"....who friggin' CARES?????...this is just the start...by now, every one of those Tebowtards that joined JI are probably already signed on here....they infected every thread over there the entire season with their "Timmy!!!!" garbage and they will do the exact same thing here.

Maybve the mods should make a Tebow Only link to a forum off the main board.Keep them quarantined.

So what? BB doesn't give a damn and he's the only one whose opinion counts.

I see it exactly the same way. With that said, there are more than a couple of people here whose opinions I respect who seem to see this as disastrous. I hope they're wrong. I just don't see BB allowing this to be any type of distracting circus. If it happens, he'll just pull the plug. Like you, I think Tebow is done as a QB in the NFL and BB has other ideas for him and that's part of the understanding.

Well, Tebow has been widely quoted as saying, he wants to play QB position, and nothing else.

Which is weird if the Patriots want him to be a FB/TE....
