If you don't take a chance on a pro bowl caliber corner because you want to hold onto a 4th round pick, when your roster is as stacked as this teams, and the best quarterback in the history of the NFL is about to exit his prime, then you have a poor grasp of the big picture. I can't believe "experts" on twitter are ripping "how much" the Pats gave up.

Wow--potentially serious add for you all. With his head screwed on straight, he has the ability to be a top 5 - 10 corner in this league.

He's a knucklehead of course (and as many have mentioned, a different category of knucklehead than say Moss when you first brought him in), but your locker room can handle it. Hardly any downside given the late picks given up, too. Sometimes guys just need a change of scenery and a stronger organization to shape up...

Gotta say though, as an outsider I would have bet a lot of money that you guys would already be set for many years in the defensive backfield, following the '09-'11 drafts and all the high round DB talent that was stockpiled. Is NE still high on McCourty or Dowling? (I know Dowling was IR'd again...)

Really down on Dowling because he's a glass man. The forum is split on McCourty's strengths and weaknesses.

In a pass-first league, I feel more comfortable with McCourty and Gregory/Wilson at safety than Chung and Gregory/Wilson at safety. Chung has had an absolutely awful year in pass coverage.

In a pass first league I think that makes corner even MORE valuable than safety. If salary is a fair representation of what GMs think than it seems they would agree conners are more important.

Moore already got axed.

And so did Carpenter. But then the Pats added Martin and Rivera. Could be that they added Talib because Cole could be headed to the IR...Or they could cut Martin or Rivera.

Dennard and Cole both looked more than serviceable last week. Talib is a #1 CB and a top ten in the league with his head screwed on straight, which it should be here.

I suppose that it's back to the Practice Squad for Williams.

id like to see talib and mccourty as our starting cbs, i think they represent the best combo this team could offer. Dennard in the slot and arrington as the backup

Seem fair value, but I cannot remember the last player to be taking out in the 4th round by the Patriots with the exception of Aaron Hernendez.

Ted Washington NT, Pats went from worst run D in 2002 and won the 203 SB

The trade details: CB Aqib Talib and a 2013 7th-round pick for a 2013 4th-round pick.

Wow thats a good haul! Kudos to dom!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Talib and our 7th rounder for New England's 4th rounder, I like the deal a lot now. Good trade.

Furthermore, the Bucs are 2-1 without him, the pass defense is arguably better (at least in that stretch), and most importantly he was in the last year of his deal. This makes it clear that the Bucs had no interest in re-signing him after this latest incident, so ANY draft pick they get for him is gravy.

It's going to hurt more though in the short term if Wright ends up getting suspended.

This 4th rounder will probably be a late 4, but it's basically free. Talib wasn't going to be a Buc next year anyway.

Gatdam right. The way people overvalue draft picks drives me nuts. I think a lot of them must be avid slots player, they are SURE that that next token is going to win the jackpot. :ugh:

Our 4th for Talib and their 7th is way too much IMO. Hopefully we can extend him because I can't see him being worth a 4th for 8 games and the playoffs.

Is it even certain that Mccourty is a better press man to man CB then Dennard though?

Bear in mind that trading back about four slots in the first round should net a 4th rounder. I suspect on draft day we'll discover we'll have picked up Talib and a 7th rounder for virtually nothing. Of course trading back 4 slots from No 32 means we'll have to wait to day two for our first pick :)

I agree they did look pretty good last week but, that was against the Rams. Against more serious competition Broncos/Texans/Ravens and maybe even Steelers I would rather have the tandem of McCourty and Talib at corner. Especially since the Pats don't often switch their corners and generally play a LCB and a RCB.

if the pats don't resign him in the off season

does that mean they get compensatory 3rd Rounder?

What has Dennard REALLY done except show some potential? I really rather not have a rookie out there playing a major role.

It's a pricey deal for a 7-11 game rental. I'm fine with it, but it's a pricey deal.

It depends on the contract that he's signed to.
