Broken Glass: Dowling to IR

He'd rather win when it matters most: in the playoffs.

Glass-I defenders remind me a lot of the Maroney defenders. Blind.
Of course the playoffs are more important. That doesnt mean the plan to build a team that went 14 and 2 and had a loss in the first playoff game is doomed.
Who is 'defending' Dowling? You are calling him names. It seems that others are pointing out the inconsistency in your argument, which appears to be some combination of a player getting injured is his fault and makes him a ****y and that BB should have known that a guy who missed 6 games in 4 years of college would only play 1 game as a rookie.

Question:

Can F.O.s of other team be allowed to call Belichick and ask if Bodden was causing friction on the team,or are they not allowed to get the lowdown on a player just cut?

There has got to be a reason why no one has yet to touch Bodden....even the Bills who have little depth and the Dolphins who are banged up.

If you are worried about the pass defense being ranked 32nd, wouldn't change make you happy?

Overall, making change to improve a statistically pathetically ranked D does sound logical. With that, I do agree. This combination of moves two days before the Steelers game does NOT make me happy, however. No, sir. No sir, it doesnt.

That would be a sample of 2 including ravens game. In the grand scheme of things these are the most important ones because its lose and you are out. Let's not be hypocrites we spent years making fun of the colts teams for not being good in the playoffs , but now that it is us its now ok.
No it wouldn't. The Ravens playoff game was the year before with a substantially different team.
Perhaps you are hypocritical, but stating that a playoff loss does not mean the way the team was built is flawed and the 14 and 2 regular season should be part of that analysis is being reasonable, not saying it is good to have a good regular season and lose in the playoffs.

See what you are saying is if you lose a playoff game you get a zero, and that every team that didn't win the SB had a terrible plan for building there team, which is ridiculous.

If Dowling cannot play putting him IR is not making a change.
Bodden is not here because BB felt we have a better chance to win with him off the team. I have no clue what the reasons were, but I trust that BB is more intelligent than anyone on this board about what gives his team a better chance to win and I would bet all the money I have that the decision was made for that reason, and no other.

Something happened between Bodden and Belichick after the trade deadline and before the bye week ended and it probably wasn't pretty.

No way does Belichick not do a trade deal for someone during the final hours of the trade deadline if he knew this horror of a Cornerback corps would include 2 STers who are borderline scrubs.

I have no knowledge whatsoever, but I truly believe there was some verbal altercations for this drastic move

We will never know what happened inside Belichick's office, but to pay a guy 13.5M for virtually nothing is something not kosher in the kitchen and the Pats rarely lose huge money on a player they re-sign.

Players get injured. To judge a draft pick on injury luck is stupid. And the proof of that is the people who want to trash the Dowling pick lie and say he has a bad injury history prior to the draft after playing 40 of 46 college games.

His college team played 12 games a year, so that is 40 of 48 games he played. It still isn't a good record. Try calling in sick one day a week at your job and see how long you last. The man is made of glass.

This..........

there has to be a reason for all of this.....

very odd indeed....

No, his college team played 46 games in his career.
It amounts to one serious injury and 1 or 2 minor ones, not a predictability of injury prone.
Your analogy is idiotic.

NFL rule changes have made scrubs galore secondaries defunct. If the 2004 secondary played in today's NFL they would be torched. 2011 NFL you need good cover guys more so than in any period of the NFL.

You do realize that 2004 was the year that, in response to Polian's whining about the Patriots' roughing up his receivers in their 2003 postseason matchup, the NFL instituted the 'defensive holding' rules emphasis, which remains the rule change that most dramatically affects how the 2ndary covers.

What's more, the Patriots' secondary had a bullseye on its back all year, as the supposed reason for the rule change.

Since then, the primary 2ndary-affecting rule changes have been increasing penalties on spearing and hitting defenseless receivers, which, to my mind, might have a net beneficial effect on 2ndary play, as it rewards sound technique and penalizes going for the big hits that used to get you on the bygone "jacked up" segment.

Does this mean there is another spot on the roster to be filled with bodden and dowling replaced by faulk ?

What i want is a team built with a capability to go deep into the playoffs. Building a team with a so so pass rush and a below average secondary is not how you do this. This history of the NFL is littered with teams that had great regular seasons , but always fizzeled in the playoffs ,because they had the problems i mentioned. If the Pats defence was built solidly , and we lost in the playoffs after great seasons i would not complain. Going into the playoffs with a team that has our issues on defence year after year IS what i have a problem with.

OMG...the Patriots just cut starting all pro safety Lawyer Milloy a couple of days before the game!!!!

what will the Patriots do???Looks real REAL bad!!!!!

That was ONE guy - - - and we had just brought in Rodney Harrison.

This time it is Sanders, Merriwether and Bodden.........and we have placed Dowling on IR and brought in some fellas named Josh Barrett, Antwan Moulden and Patch Adams.

Sorry, but not the same.

Thats the way I react when someone calls me an idiot, unless of course it's in person, then I knock their friggin teeth out

Just wondering but when's the last time the Pats had an early round rookie IR'd and came back and had a solid career?

Actually not even just Pats but in the NFL, are there any examples?

Hopefully Dowling bounces back!
