Broken Glass: Dowling to IR

The rules in 2004 were the same exact ones we have now.

Wrong. Completely false. All the defenseless receiver nonsense was not around in 2004, guys can come over the middle now whenever they please without the fear and getting annihilated by a safety, and if they do more often than not it's a penalty. Corners in 2011 do not have that intimidation factor on their side anymore, which was a big part of how you played coverages.

BTW, it would help you tremendously to have your facts correct. Dowling did not tear a tendon from his hip. The tendon tear is in his LEG.

Clearly, facts are an issue with you..

Read it

The Patriots just placed rookie CB Ras-I Dowling on Injured Reserve with a hip injury,

Any chance you might wager an over/under on how many games Ras will suit up and play in next year?
Conerback with hip problems......sounds promising

PS
Your Bruins suck!

Probably depth is the biggest issue I see here... Bodden wasn't contributing much looked like Arrington was playing better than him...Dowling only played two games. I still have faith in Devin he is just one int to have his groove back. Hey man we are 5-1 with the greatest coach-Qb tandem in history. We will be fine we should add another corner for depth IMO

I wasn't a Dowling guy going into the draft but you could see so much potential in his limited play. Very disappointing. They are so thin at safety and corner now it's ridiculous.

I wouldn't be surprised if they got rid of Arrington next for no reason

Actually, the re-emphasis of the 5 yard chuck rule happened in 2004. It was the AFC Championship game the previous year which caused the rules committee to overreact to the way defenders covered receivers. So the rule that most affects they way CBs can cover receivers was already in effect in 2004.

There was no defenceless receiver rule plus the definition of what is deemed interference in 2011 is significantly harsher than 2004. This season everytime a receiver and DB touch you are pretty much expecting a PI call . Even with an emphasis on 5 yard rule it was not as bad as it is today.

Where are all the BB Kool-aid drinkers?Releasing Bodden makes no sense now.Dowling pick looks terrible early.BB has set this defense back with his lousy drafting!!!!:mad::bricks:

I'm totally shocked the 20K post homer league has not deployed their typical kool-aid defense of these totally sh***y moves. Hope they dont waste another year of Brady's prime.

Rules are the same , but the interpretation of them is vastly different

The bigger problem here is not BB the coach it's BB the GM and the owner. This value baloney has given us exactly what? Its their reasoning for not wanting to sign certain players. I think we can all agree at this point Samuel non signing was a huge mistake the money and draft picks wasted trying to replace him is almost laughable. On draft day last year after the first round which i wasn't happy about trading the 2nd first round pick i was syked for day 2 with the 1st pick and when Dowling was picked I was shocked. He wasn't even in most drafts top 40, but here is the point since they last Super Bowl in 2004 they started changing the way they drafted and retaining players "value" was the word. There is something terribly wrong with the way we scout and develope defensive backs and wide recievers.
Please feel free to fill me in on all of the teams who have had a better philosophy than the Patriots in the BB era.

In all my years as a Pats fan, its tough to think of a stranger feeling than knowing with our passing D ranked DEAD LAST in the NFL, we cut one cornerback, and IR his replacement a day later. Id love to somehow make sense of this. But I'll think all night on this and come up with nothing. God, I love my team.
If you are worried about the pass defense being ranked 32nd, wouldn't change make you happy?

This secondary rivals those of the Pats in the early 90s...I have not seen a Patriots secondary this weak in nearly 20 years...it's scary.

Luckily the team jumped away to a 5-1 start so a loss or two during the next month won't kill playoff hopes.

However the loss of 2 CBs this week now puts the teams destiny firmly in the hands of the 7 guys up front....I don't care who is playing, there is a bigger demand for a fierce pass rush than ever before...,someone needs to step up and get to the QB on a consistent basis...
that's pretty much the hope this defense can get by while likely to be ranked in the lower 20s/30s most of the season.

It's time to RUN the damn ball down opponents throats and crush the battle of time of possession......this defense needs this offense to kill some serious clock, enough of the wild passing 400 yard games for this season, balance now is a MUST.

Longer time for the offense to run the clock, less time for this secondary to defend, and that is what will win games, the running game must be successful.

Or maybe they're two separate things? Arrington has been far more effective than Bodden, which is why he replaced Bodden on the field. Check out Bedard and Rapoport's articles on the release of Bodden; it sounds like he was having a real problem with not being a starter. You'd prefer another Adalius Thomas situation?

I'm totally shocked the 20K post homer league has not deployed their typical kool-aid defense of these totally sh***y moves. Hope they dont waste another year of Brady's prime.

Yes, because we all know that the only team that drafts players and signs free agents that go on to have injuries are the Patriots. It's an absolute fact that every player drafted by all 31 other teams in the first four rounds has gone on to become an All Pro. Every free agent ever signed to a five figure contract by all 31 other NFL teams has also gone on to become an All Pro.

Why am I not surprised in the least that "fans" like the two of you only appear with something to say after a loss, somebody gets cut, or somebody goes on IR?

This team's current secondary is the same that had problems in the playoffs. We have worse safeties than last year .We have not improved . We beat the jets 45-3 regular season , we beat the raven's in the regular season, couple of weeks later in the playoffs what happened. Same will happen with the Chargers and jets. We will win our 12-14 games , but that's it
So what you are saying is 14 and 2 is a bad indication of the quality of last years team, and you would prefer to judge them on a sample size of 1 game?

IMHO the only fact that matters is what most people consider a first round pick will provide zero production for our Pats this year!

Thanks for the facts

Let me list some as well
Missed training camp
1 game played and 15 missed in his first pro season

Mistaken pick
Players get injured. To judge a draft pick on injury luck is stupid. And the proof of that is the people who want to trash the Dowling pick lie and say he has a bad injury history prior to the draft after playing 40 of 46 college games.

So what you are saying is 14 and 2 is a bad indication of the quality of last years team, and you would prefer to judge them on a sample size of 1 game?

He'd rather win when it matters most: in the playoffs.

Glass-I defenders remind me a lot of the Maroney defenders. Blind.

A Look Ahead....

Right now,Belichick is looking into maneuvering his draft picks to get Morris Claiborne...maybe even Kirkpatrick by a rare move up.

Gilmore if he stays in the lower part of the first round

All I know is CB HAS to be his main priority,it's not even close.

That would be a sample of 2 including ravens game. In the grand scheme of things these are the most important ones because its lose and you are out. Let's not be hypocrites we spent years making fun of the colts teams for not being good in the playoffs , but now that it is us its now ok.
