Roster updates: PUP activations and IR options

My suspicion is that Cannon was brought off the reserve/NFI list primarily so that he can get the experience of participating in three weeks of practice before going on IR. While, by all accounts, Cannon didn't suffer from the side effects of chemotherapy as badly as most, but it generally takes a full year for your stamina to be back to normal and for the cognitive impairment to clear up. You don't hear as much about 'chemo brain' as you do the nausea, fatigue and weakness, but it's very real, and you don't want someone on the OL who is prone to confusion.

You do know that "chemo" is a very broad, very varied group of drugs, correct? The types, amount, infusion schedule, etc... all can vary significantly.

Do you know what form and strength of Chemo Cannon was on? Because if you don't, you're making a very general and sweeping statement about him having "chemo brain" and to what extent. Not trying to bust your balls, but applying generalizations to a specific case can be misleading.

Hard to answer a question that doesn't even get the facts right. There is no reason he hasn't gotten a single snap, because he has gotten a snap. Multiple snaps, in fact.

Not just that, but he's seen action on ST as well as on offense as part of that new max protect shotgun formation we've started to see on 3rd downs with both RB's going out on option routes.

The fact that he sees action in both ST and on offense makes him just a little harder to IR than the others (use sarcasm meter if needed).

Re: Who Should We Bring Back?

AVAILABLE
Cannon, Faulk, Deaderick, Brace

SOME OF THE ROSTER SPOTS AVAILABLE
Molden, Moore, Ventrone, Brown

Also, Cannon could replace Thomas.

I think you forgot about Bodden when it came to the roster spots available.....

Re: Who Should We Bring Back?

With Bodden a surprise cut, I think Ventrone and Thomas are also gone to make room for at least 3 of the 4 players soon to be activated. I wonder if Cannon will continue to be the odd man out or if there is another cut coming.

I'm pretty sure that EVERYONE forgot about Bodden when it came to Roster Spots available...

I don't see Thomas going anywhere until Vollmer is 100% healthy AND Cannon gets moved to the active roster. Barring both of those things, Thomas is here to stay..

With the cutting of Bodden, Adams and Molden are here to stay, regardless of Dowling's status.

This doesn't affect the 53-man roster; just a practice squad move:

Practice squad: Victorian in, Williams out - New England Patriots Blog - espnBoston

In addition to formally announcing the release of cornerback Leigh Bodden on Friday afternoon, the Patriots made a minor swap on the practice squad, re-signing defensive back Josh Victorian and releasing cornerback Malcolm Williams.

Victorian had been released Tuesday to add Williams, a seventh-round draft pick of the Patriots in this year's draft, to the practice squad.

So basically player A is cut and player B is signed on Tuedsay, then three days later player B is cut and player A is re-signed.

Dr. Evil, have you ever been on it? (I have been on both lower and higher doses)

Yeah dude it is a "BROAD" term... for somebody / cancer most cases are treated very AGGRESSIVELY. Do NOT speak of things that you do NOT know about. He was undoubtedly being TREATED very aggressively. Wgat do you know you are MERELY a poster here w/ NO 1st hand experience of dealing w/ CANCER. Agressive regimes aim to stop the disease in its tracks. They BOMBARDED it heavily in hopes to stop its progression. You are NOT a Dr. therefore your INPUT is UNWARRANTED. If you CLAIM you are a Dr. I won't believe you so do approach this cautiously. :):):)

I would be very surprised to see Cannon get activated this soon. Aside from the cancer/ cancer treatment issues, he is still very green in the Pats system and NFL experience.

My bet is that Fletcher had surgery done during the bye week and will be back whenever that has healed enough.

Guessing that Deaderick or Brace will be activated.

I am kind of with an earlier post that is hoping Faulk doesn't get activated as it doesn't seem like a position of need at the moment and I would not like to see someone like G. Warren get the boot to make room for Faulk. Don't get me wrong, I love Faulk and clearly Belichick and Brady do also...but I would like to see them hold off for now.

So was Solder. Early indications are that Cannon is physically gifted, so don't be too surprised. ;)

Juat to add some insight to this.....I had Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma 24 years ago. They first tried a low-dose chemo cycle for 1 year. The cancer returned and I then had the "high dose" 3 day regimen, followed by an autologous bone marrow transplant.

To simply this....the high dose.....means HIGH dose....it kills the cancer, along with my immune system, hair and toenails(not kidding).Once this terrifying bombshell was completed, they re-introduced my immune cells and I spent 30 days in isolation, waiting for my immune system to regenerate......which it did(hooray!).

This was not fun....it was not easy...but it worked.I didn't have much physical problems, after. However, the Psychological trauma was immense. It seems to me that Cannon handled the treatment, very well.If the mental aspect is manageable,I don't see any reason why he can't perform at an optimum level. He's a kindred spirit to me and I wish him Godspeed.:rocker:

Does anyone see Faulk as a shadow roster candidate?

God bless you, italia44. My first go round with it started 20 years ago this coming Tuesday.
When people say "Cannon can't... " ...well they just don't know. If you attack cancer back and refuse to be a victim, once you pull yourself together again, there is no "can't".

I'm right behind you on Cannon's support team!

Much respect to both of you for being true warriors and being here today to tell your stories.

All the best today and in the future.

Rapaport tweets that Brace is not expected to be activated for tomorrow.

Thanks for the update. Isn't the deadline for PUP activations coming up this afternoon?
