2nd rounder.
The reality is, all the nice stats and production BJGE had, you can say the same thing about Laurence Maroney in 2007 (and probably 2009) and we moved him without blinking (both had very nice metrics and stats per Football Outsiders).
We got rid of Maroney after a few years of mediocrity.....not after a 1000 yard season, which Lawfirm just had.

LoMo 2007 - (13 games) 835 yards, 4.5 yds/carry, #6 back in DVOA on FootballOutsiders
BJGE 2010 - (16 games) 1008 yards, 4.2 yds/carry, #2 back in DVOA on FootballOutsiders
They aren't that far apart in terms of production.
Admittedly, BJGE brings other things to the table that LoMo did not - like intangibles.
Per Ian Rappaport on twitter, they used the 2nd round tender.

He's a solid player, but I wouldn't lose any sleep if another team shipped us a 2nd for him. And I think we can get comparable production for much less than $2.6 million. I think this says more about the running back position than it does about the players.
Yeah I was just thinking the same thing. In fact I'm kind of hoping somebody claims him. That's a great return on a UDFA.
The Patriots already proved they were stupid enough to leave the Law-Firm on the sideline in favor of Woodhead in the post-season. Nothing the Pats do surprises me anymore. That would leave us a nice gaping hole at RB.

So I assume you disagree with the 2nd round tender, then?

With 2 RB's (3 if Faulk doesn't retire) you can easily pick up two through the draft and/or free agency.Kind of already have one. The only RB on the roster is Woodhead. At this point in time the RFA doesn't gurantee a player will be with the team that tendered him. If nobody offers a contract to Law Firm then the Pats will still have only 2 RBs on the roster. They need to add a few via some combination of draft selections and free agency, and adding a 2nd round pick for him could go a long way in rebuilding the OL.
Not at all, that's about his worth more it wouldn't surprise me if they let him go because they were stupid enough against the Jets to use him sparingly even though he was incredibly effective when his number was called. So I assume you disagree with the 2nd round tender, then?
