Merged again and again: I do/don't like the Moss trade because...

As I just pointed out, our entire offense has been terrible at times and NO ONE (including Brady and Welker) have been as good as they were in 2007. The entire offense has declined so stop trying to put all of the blame on Moss.

Except for the fact that he has been our most productive receiver in 2008 and 2009. :lol2: The TDs don't lie.

Bill has been making bad decisions the past few years (remember the Colts game?) and is slowly dismantling our team. It may be okay with you but I doubt Brady is really happy with watching his team go through a sudden rebuilding process right now, considering that he isn't getting any younger.

Brady isn't getting younger and neither is anyone else. That's why you HAVE to rebuild. And to rebuild while remaining a contender is hard. But I guess living in DC with the horrible Redskins (year in, year out, no matter who comes or goes) gives me a different perspective.

eta: Have you visited the threads discussing Moss's antics? Just how is that remotely OK? As someone very smart pointed out, it's not a question of LIKING the trade. It's a question of whether it had to be done. And it sure sounds he was done here and wanted out. This is not new Moss behavior.

Favre wont even have to be a gunslinger in the offense he will have. The offense is well balanced.

If Brady's not getting any younger then why are u blowing everything up?You gotta have some veterans out there.I am starting to doubt if TB will ever get that 4th superbowl ring when this team just starts trading away pieces!

Some of u will be surprise at how Moss will play. The guy's 33 but he could play the next 4 years making plays.Look at wat TO is doing at his age.To me Moss wasnt giving it his all.I expect the Vikings to go on a roll now.

"To me Moss wasnt giving it his all."

.....and so you think it was a good idea to keep him around?

Why was that? You think management did well in not talking to him about an extension?I think both parties here didnt exactly help each other!

How is this "blowing" it up?

People, you all need to get a grip.

How do you really know what they did or didn't do? My guess is the asking price was waaaay too high for a guy that gives his all when he's happy and not so much when he's not. That's never been what the Patriots are all about.

Perhaps you don't remember Alligator Arms last year?

Re: I give the deal a 'thumbs up'

We did lose McGinest and Smith to IR that year, so point taken.

The best player that we lost that season was Bledsoe who had a pretty good replacement. Who replaces Moss?

The year of the first Super Bowl the Pats didn't lose McGinest to IR, and that didn't lose Otis or Antowain to IR that year either. What Smith are you talking about?

As far as replacing Moss, I don't think you can, he's one of the best receivers in football. But I think the offense will be better because Brady won't be trying to force the ball to him.

Let me make something perfectly clear:

The defense in 2007 - although not the greatest - may as well be compared what they have now.

The Offense in 2007 - didn't exactly shine when it mattered the most, now did it? Especially that first half when they kept - you know - force feeding the ball to Moss even though Brady had.003 seconds to find him because the Giants d was having the Pats o-line for dinner that fateful eve.

Farve will always be a gunslinger, no matter what offense he is in.

When did Moss say he wanted out?? He specifically said he wanted to retire as a Patriot but didn't think Kraft would pay him, which is definitely a good point as any player who has spent any amount of time with the Pats could tell you. We all know that Kraft doesn't like to pay people, except in rare cases like Brady. Or when he decides to waste a fortune on a random crappy LB from the Ravens...

That's Brady's fault. nobody was holding gun to his head and telling him to throw the ball to Moss.

It has been reported he asked for a trade after Game 1. You know, after his "I wanna be here FOREVER and EVER AMEN!" speech that apparently some of you took seriously.

That crappy LB from the RAvens was the free agent prize that season. Everyone thought so, except maybe Ray Lewis And YOU apparently!

Well done!

Everyone has a bad game at times. I guessed you missed the other 18 teams that they won and many of which were blowouts.

You know, I just watched that Moss presser after game one again a few minutes ago.

Wow.

Did he come off as the needy boy/girlfriend or what???

I can't help but flash a mental image of that Seinfeld episode where George is trying to break up with a needy girlfriend and puts out the line "It's not you, it's me".

The Belichick statement this morning takes that very tact it seems......at least he didn't resort to poisoning wedding invitation envelopes!

What I like about this move is it just shows yet again, the Pats are willing to make unpopular moves for the sake of the team.

Are they right moves? That's hard to say. Losing Seymour hurt, but it'll sure feel nice to have a top 10 pick for him. A 3rd rounder for Moss is painful, but is he going to be trouble down the road if he has another ****ty game?

Moss is a great receiver, I'm not going to start bashing him because he's gone, but I never felt comfortable having someone on the team you wonder is going to have an outburst if they're not part of every play.

Back to the point, compare them to the Red Sox who sat on their hands at both deadlines because making money was more important to them than cutting their losses.

They could have picked up some younger, already developing prospects for Beltre, and Martinez, and possibly traded away Ortiz, Drew and maybe even Papelbon / Beckett / Dice-K. Anyone with half a brain knew they weren't getting to the playoffs, and even if a miracle happened, it was a first round exit for them.

Now Beltre and Martinez are walking in exchange for draft picks that will likely replace the ones we lose when they sign another FA bust, and those picks will be about 3-5 years away from helping regardless.

So yea, whether good moves or not, I like how the Pats FO is aggressive in current and future plans, without worry about popularity or sell-out streaks.

They are unpopular. The Pats always like to shock people and the media.I dont like the move because they wont go out and get a solid 3rd wr.They will stay pat.
