What is Logan's principle???

The media really needs to check this thread out. Methinks Logan and his agent (IllegalContact) are pleading their case here.

another one.

how much would you pay a player you can't count on from one week to the next? so when was the last 16 game season neal played?

if brady gets 20M for a year, is he worth 10M if he says hes only going to play 8 games?

So neal's been injured in the past? Is that a guarantee that mankins won't be injured in the future? And if he is, does he give the money back?

Neal gets 1/3 of what mankins thinks he's worth. So the assumption is that Neal plays 5 games per season per Mankins 16? I don't think that's realistic.

'Methinks'

I didn't know people still used that stupid word

in 5 years, Mankins has played and started every game 16,16,16,16,16. in the same 5 years, Neal has started 16,13,8,9,12. he has not been healthy for a whole season since 2005. I guess you could argue that past results can't guarantee future returns, but Neal is 33 now and one of his shoulders is a mess. your straight line math is what is not realistic. You can't expect a solid starting unit if one guy isn't there half of the time.

you may want to blame him or even his union, but he has a logical argument as to why HE alone should be the one who pays for the current labor situation. he likely sees the owners position in this as a poor one which makes the situation worse.

No he has no such argument. He is a restricted free agent as per the terms of the CBA, and not some backroom shenenanigans pulled off by the Patriots. As such, there is no claim of "principle" to fall back on. Its all about the money. Now maybe he thinks he has been jilted, but that isn't reality and it doesn't make his claim logical.

In the end, his agent has done a piss poor job of representing him based on the timing and statements made by them. If anyone has made the situation worse, I would think it is him.

I disagree. Its not his agents job to have him playing under the RFA tender. especially going into a potential lockout season. The fact that you don't like it because it compromises your (and my) team has nothing to do with the tangible aspects of one side of the argument.

Its always been about the money. But if he says he has been lied to, then it becomes about principle, also.

as for what reality is, you have no clue what has happened to make the situation what it is. admit it. you just hear what you want to hear.

Its his agent's job to get his client signed to a contract with a team. Based on what the agent has stated I don't think he has done a good job representing him in that respect considering he might go two whole years without being paid a cent. The basis for that notion is as follows:

The agent has stated that he hasn't spoken to the patriots since May.

In the last conversation the agent stated that the Patriots would get back to the agent and also wondered if an Evans deal would get the contract signed.

In June, Mankins goes to the media and slams the Patriots saying they deceived him and wants to be traded.

These statements, made by the agent, alone tell me that he hasn't done a good job. How has he not followed up with the patriots? How does he allow Mankins to make public statements without having talked to the patriots? How does he let his client get so out of control about it?

Sorry Frank, this one is on you.

Its always been about the money. But if he says he has been lied to, then it becomes about principle, also.

Or maybe he just isn't very bright, I don't know. Based on his own statements, he is mad because the Patriots promised to address the contract after the uncapped year. These are his words. Where is the lie?

That reality is, you have no clue what has happened to make the situation what it is. admit it. you just hear what you want to hear.

I've only been going off of the statemets that have been made. What else should I go on?

you have typed up a bunch of hearsay (with the exception of speaking since may)

if an evans type of deal was offered, then we would be talking about it now.

it is obvious you are selective about what you hear and run with what you want to hear.

nobody has offered evans money.

Anybody else getting sick and tired of hearing and talking about Logan Mankins nonstop?

I think we need to start another thread or two to discuss all the nuances.

THIS!!!

I think we need to start another thread or two to discuss all the nuances.

I've been trying to avoid the threads about this for the last week or so but that only goes so far. There's a new thread on it everyday that keeps getting bounced to the top as well as non-stop discussion on the sports networks. The season can't start soon enough.

I am really confused as to what the issues are here and WHAT principle he is standing steadfast on.
He was one who I thought that the Pats should draft that year..thought more 2nd 3rd than a 1st, but I thought he would be a great fit and HE WAS. But now, given this situation..I am having a HARD time understanding what his beef is with the team.
I've heard his words regarding this from the past..heard a VERY GOOD scenario on D&C...and
I am still confused as to WHAT principle he is standing up on.
It's mentioned that he was underpaid rookie contract and that happens..it's NOT like he's the only one. There is a mention about going to Kraft and being told it qill be taken care of after the uncapped year.....I think he misspoke and really meant THIS year, but the offer that the Patriots gave him was nothing at all to sneeze at...35 million over 5 years?? I think to any lineman THIS is a solid offer and would take it in an instant. Instead, Mankins turned up his njose and sat on his fanny...claiming principle.
What the heck is HIS principle that he's sitting out??? Kraft lied to him? How why?? Is taking 7 mil a year an insult?? Is THAT offer being treated poorly?? (I think all would NOT see this as the case at ALL...Logan time to get off the high horse and get your head out of your backside..) I have tried to see WHAT OTHER principle he's standing tall on..other than simple GREED..OR GREEDIER than anyone SHOULD be. Not sure there's ANY answer..really. EVEN in what he said..that Kraft told him he's be taken care of...and THAT offer is REASONABLE and fair and nothing short of that. If Mr Mankins is making a stink that he's not the TOP lineman paid..then he can take himself back to the ranch and play with the steers and STAY there. No coming back to NE or anywhere..Frankly I doubt Kraft promised him the HIGHEST contract.
So what else is there?? WHAT other reason?? I feel like his agent has not helped him and I really think he's in some kind of dream world..In bad economic times, being greedy like this is quite silly and dumb..and shows LITTLE character...BUT he may have painted himself into a corner..NOT playing this year and..if there's a lockout next, it will be 2 years NO money NO playing..and that value will GO WAY DOWN...
But what are the high and mighty principles he is playing out??? If it's greed..then he's a selfish SOB and should be gone... What OTHER real reasons are there?? Soiled athlete is something that is thrown around a LOt..maybe his picture should be there.
But I have also wracked my brains to see what/if and tried to see other angles on this..but have come up totally empty. I hear rumblings of "principle" BUT given what I have heard in audio from the past..it seems the ONLY principle is pure greed. I would like to believe it is more than that, BUT???? No idea what it would be.

OK. Lets try this one more time.
Throw out all the guesses. Dont confuse the matter with all the specualtion you are throwing in here.
Just listen to what he said, with an open mind.

He approached the Pats last year for an extension.
They said lets wait due to labor issues, but we want you here and we will take care of you.
Next season comes and whether he knew it was coming or not, he was an RFA facing a 1 year tender.
The team made an offer that he felt was unfair.

The principle was he felt he had their word that they would take care of him in the future, he didnt consider their offer 'taking care of him' and basically is saying if he knew then what the offer was going to be he wouldn't have agreed to what he did.

Right or wrong, its pretty clear.

Lord yes. I was thinking about taking the time to educate myself on all this contract-related minutiae, but then I realized I just don't care. About any of it.

That is not what I wrote.

I don't really care about Logan's principle actually. I just want to know his principal. Was he a nice guy or was he a ****? Was he even a HE at all? Maybe he was a she? Did Mankins like the movie Logan's Run? Let's start a thread about it. Was Logan Airport named after Mankins, or is it the other way around? Perhaps we should have a thread about that as well. Has Logan broken wind today? A thread should provide some answers.

What does "he wouldn't have agreed to what he did" mean? What did they coax him into doing?

Could have used a bit more of that.....

THANK you!! JEEBUS!!

It's not ABOUT "Principle".

It's about Return on Equity.

Haw.
