Reiss: Kaczur has "significant" back injury

Before we all give up on the season it would serve us well to note that we are not the only team in the AFC or even the AFCE with question marks on OL. The JETS cut Faneca and drafted Ducasse but he isn't catching on as quickly as they hoped and has been penciled in as the backup to a 2009 6th round pick. Miami is grappling with assembling an OL and playing musical chairs at Center. The Colts are rearranging the chairs on the Titanic sliding their draft bust LT in at LG and crossing their fingers that a RG who lost his job after a lackluster rookie year finally wakes up two seasons later.

That said, Asamoah - whom Mayock was nuts over and Pioli snagged in the third - would have looked real good as the Mankins insurance many mocked me calling for...

Did I miss something? When did rumors (or even official proclamations) about Patriots players injuries start to become credible?

I will believe Kaczur has a "significant" injury he land on IR or is OUT week 1.

Or maybe I should still be sweating over the "FACT" that there is no way Wes Welker returns to the practice field earlier than week 5.

Yeah - that Mike Reiss has no sources, no contacts, and is always off base with his reporting.

Can Gerard Warren, Damione Lewis or Darryl Richard start cross training as OGs? (Wilfork is probably too valuable). They already know all the moves and tricks of OGs. Just from the other side. Like BB says "The more you can do..."

Just kidding, but not by much.

We still have Tom Brady and BB.

I feel ok about things.

The Pats have won in the past with no name guys.

Re: Kaczur has "Significant" back injury--Reiss

I hope he gets well soon, but Kaczur just inst that good to begin with.

Thank you!

People are freaking out over Nick Kaczur? Really? Whomever replaces him just can't be that significant of a drop off. I just can't beleive that since I beleive Kaczur is a JAG at best.

Correct me if I'm, but I recall a fair amount of people on the board after every loss last season who put a lot of blame on Kaczur and now that he might be out for awhile, some turn to doom and gloom? :bricks:

Re: Kaczur has "Significant" back injury--Reiss

so, they gonna just forget about mankins? maybe see him waddle in some time in october, sign his tender......and then what? you think that's good for the pats?
I think that is better for the Pats than to do it the way most teams do it, which is to cave in to players at every turn. That is setting yourself up for future headaches.

Chargers, COlts, Steelers, Patriots are the teams that are least susecptible to blackmail. Anything those teams have in common over the last decade?

Cave in to difference makers that will help you for years to come. Don't cave in over guards. The next guard who is a difference maker on a team will be the first. John Hannah was out best guard ever, and the best guard of the 70's. As great as he was, he was still a guard. Teams that won the superbowl were teams with the best QB of the 70's.

It's comical. Felger and the other maroon last night on TV were panicking. Pats must do something NOW, RIGHT AWAY.

Well, this is news to them, but it isn't news to the Pats. They were aware of Kaczur's injury when it happened. THey just didn't tell anyone. So think: if the Pats haven't over-reacted for the last ten days when they knew what the situation was, why would they suddenly over-react now just because WE know what the situation is?

Wasn't Kaczur too "tall and rangy" to be a guard anyhow? Wasn't that a big topic here for awhile?

Reading comments from some Bengal fans on Giachiuc, he was a turnstile playing C for them....

Seems like camp fodder unless Dante can coach him up...

Here's some more perspective...

Colts T Charlie Johnson and G Andy Alleman were both carted off the practice field Friday.
Each appeared to suffer either leg or foot injuries. Losing Johnson would be the bigger blow for the Colts, as he is currently penciled in as the starting left tackle. Last year's starter at left tackle, Tony Ugoh, has been working out at left guard, and it remains to be seen how the Colts would go about replacing Johnson if he were to miss extended time. Exactly, this report makes me more worried about Ty Warren being seriously hurt than Kaczur.

I hear that's going well.

Go back and try to read what I said again, and this time try not to single out a small phrase that is a part of a larger sentiment. I said IF - and that it was a big if... so don't try to imply my statement was based on the given that the Pats and Mankins would work things out.

Considering this was your best reply to what I said, you don't apparently really have a reply.

You can just about take what Reiss says to the bank.

Dude, seriously.... when did reading become a lost art in this country? Here's the breakdown of Joker's posts. Follow the bolded portions....
I clearly and correctly explained how 90% of people are going to read Rosenthal's post and you completely ignored it. I don't even care about what Joker has said since then, since I think his efforts with the Pats depth chart, which is totally unofficial, are misguided and unnecessary. I believe the entire argument arises from someone else's half-assed writing.

Kaczur has never "officially" been a LG on this team, making his status on the depth chart at LG irrelevant. I only quoted you later on in the thread because I didn't feel like finding the original post.

You've made your own point: Mankins' holdout is illogical, it was from the very start. That's why it would not surprise me to see him continue with it and even sit out the season, as stupid as that would be. He's already turned down five years, $35 million (dumb) and has his heels dug in for $8 million per which he'll never get from the Patriots (dumber). He's pissed and being stupid about it.

Absolutely disagree. There is still time for this situation to turn in Mankins' favor. He is waiting for one of two things to happen:

1) The Pats' interior line falls apart. Not so much Kaczur, but if Neal happens to blow up then Mankins will likely be able to maximize his position.

2) Another team under intense pressure to win (Cowboys, Vikings, etc) has their interior line fall apart...making them willing to part with a #1 pick to get Mankins.

I don't think either of these situations play out, but Mankins has time. But at the completion of the 3rd preseason games, that time runs out. Teams turn their focus to preparation for week 1. Final cutdowns will throw a bunch of cheap competition into the talent pool. At that point, Mankins becomes "out of sight, out of mind". Until then, Mankins has little to lose by staying home.

A story about Kaczur became an opportunity, in Joker's mind, to bash a media outlet over his interpretation of Mankins' status vis-a-vis the depth chart, and he jumped on it without thinking. As a result, the very point he was trying to argue was undercut by his own sources. Joker already admitted his error, even as he maintained his original position bashing PFT while knowing he's wrong. Let it die.

The rules of the uncapped year make this holdout (and that of Vincent Jackson, Marcus Mcneil, and Merriman in SD) different than what we've seen in the past.

Mankins most likely doesn't need to play another day for the Pats to become a free agent. Only the special provisions of the uncapped year made him a RFA. In any other year he had enough service time to be an unrestricted FA. I haven't seen anyone predicting that they will raise the service time requirement to 6 years under the next CBA. He doesn't need the 2010 season to count to his service time the way a holdout normally does.

The Pats could franchise him before the next season (be it 2011 or whenever the CBA is settled) but then he is at looking at a lot more in $ than the 1.5m he is set to earn this year.

The question is does he risk injury and the X million he can get as a FA the next NFL season for 1.5m this year. Without knowing his personal finances I don't know how anyone could predict that.

Unchartered waters indeed. Will he make more money next year than the 1.5 million he's set to earn this year? No doubt. But the real question is how much will he be able to negotiate from a team after having sat out a whole year from football & how does that best offer compare to the offer now on the table.

You know it amazes me the way some people on this forum that are fans of the same team deliberately try to start **** with someone with a differing opinion or who say anything that seems to get their panties in a bunch. I am not optimistic about either situation considering the lack of good depth. Deal with it.

There's really just a handful who fancy themselves debaters extraordinaires and won't allow an inch of take (no problem with the give part though). And don't forget the lord of the flies/tribal types that swarm over the unsuspecting who dare offer an opinion not completely considered. There are also one or two who are just ornery mother....... All and all a great bunch whose opinions I read just about everyday!
