Kraft would probably start selling crumpets and calling them "crumplets". They'd go for $9 each. :bricks:

Crumplets...$9...butter, add $5

Help me here people. Why not use a 2nd string OT as a blocking TE? Good at pass protection and as a run blocker.

well...tea and crumplets for everyone!

I'm surprised to see he's only 32. It feels like Alge has been around forever. :D

They used Connolly as a fullback and were using Vollmer as an extra blocker on running downs before he took over at LT for Matt Light. LeVoir has also frequently seen playing time as a 6th OL. But it doesn't make sense to do it on every play. That extra tackle isn't going to threaten anyone in the passing game like a tight end can, even in the Patriots' wide receiver-friendly system.

I think this is a good signing by the Pats. Solid blocker, better receiver than Chris Baker. He could be an adequate starter in the event we don't find a better TE.

Because teams will be able to stack the box and focus on the RB whenever we put a OL in there. At least with Crumpler they have to watch if he's about to break off into a route and that extra step could get the RB another 5 yards.

Yes, he's old. But at least he gives us a TE on the roster for more flexibility for trades/drafting...

Nice signing.

that guy used to be almost as good as gates

his prime was wasted with vick

He's the best tight end on their roster...

He's not fast enough to outrun anybody en route to 80 or 100 yard games like he did back around 2004 - 2005, but he can still be a useful asset to the team. Even if he shouldn't be expected to catch more than a couple of passes a game, he'll be a welcome addition to pass protection and the running game.

If he can be 130% of Jermaine Wiggins he'll be an excellent adition to this team.

Now all the Patriots need to do now is trade for Vick.
