Reiss: McKenzie to participate fully in offseason activities

Tate, McKenzie, Brady, Welker... It's been a string of bad luck with the ligaments that I hope comes to an end.

Not until god makes Patriot football players like this.....

Ask the Texans Steve Slaton how he is as a run stuffer.....

YouTube - Mr. Slaton, Meet Mr. McKenzie

I think tackles like that makes coaches wet themselves. Absolutely perfect, straight stood up the ball carrier.

From reading up on him, (I admittedly didn't follow the guy much, it's not like USF is on my priorities to watch) he has the WRITE UP of a play maker, he did a lot of good things in college and although he went from Mich St, Iowa St, to eventual USF his stats remained pretty consistent. It has to make one feel confident because it shows he can

A) handle adversity, the kid straight up played ball and took care of his mother

B) it shows he has the inteligence to learn all 3 of those play books within 3 years enough to start, and play pretty well.

I'm tired of waiting around for these "potential" 3rd rounders. However, Kenzie just seems to have "it" mentally. I can't say anything about his play due to his terrible luck for us in 09 but I really hope the kid can be a serious player for us.

OK, I get that now but it's a stupid, unnecessary comment. Being realistic is fine but being a negative ass solely for the sake of being an ass is just stupid.

I don't think he's being a negative ass.

It does seem like the Patriots have had an unfortunate stretch of ligament injuries to key players.

Then again, I don't really follow other teams' injury reports that closely, so I don't know if the Patriots are an aberration or if it's all just the vagaries of the NFL.

Yes, if he's ready for the off season and so is Tate, Ohrnberger and (whisper it queitly) Crable then thats like an additional 4 draft picks

Tate and McKenzie especially i've high hopes for but you never know with the all the inuries these guys have had

Crable still plays football?

I think I'm a little overly sensitive but I thought his wording was way over the top. Regardless, here's to a season with no ligament tears . . .

Hoping for a player's full recovery, and hoping for the avoidance of having another ligament injury when the team has suffered through 4 (3 if you don't count Tate) ACL situations in 2 years, as well as the MCL sprain that limited Mayo is negative now?

When the hell did that sort of sea change occur in the English language?

I just thought your wording of "snapping like frozen elastics" was over the top but this thread is bigger than that.

I believe that the proper perspective is that McKenzie is a fine prospect coming back from injury. He is starting over after rehabbing for a year, and having been away from football for a year.

Perhaps some here can give me a list of defensive players who have becaome all-pros after coming into the league after a year of layover for an injury. I don't think that there are many,

So, while I certainly hope that McKenzie will be better for us that Crable and Wheatley, that remains to be seen. And yes, I am absolutely fine if he makes the roster as a backup ILB. He would be well worth the draft choice and the wait.

So... "snapping like frozen elastics" to describe the ACL situation in New England is over the top, and it's somehow negative, too, somehow, but "negative ass" was somehow an appropriate response?

No it wasn't. Move on.

I look at McKenzie as more advanced than a rookie but less than a second year player. He has a lot of catching up to do with regard to on field reactions but he's way ahead mentally of players who won't even know they're Patriots for two more months.

Has anyone heard what might be wrong with Crable? I know that might be impossible to answer. It's just so curious. The kid just can't stay on the field. I have heard no rumors that it might be an ACL/MCL type of injury either. So strange.

Shin, foot, knee, shoulder...Its been a myriad of maladies with this kid.

He needs to have a helluva camp to make this team IMO.

This is great to hear. I watched McKenzie at USF a few times when he played there and I'm excited to see what he has on the field lining up next to a (hopefully fully healthy) Mayo. If McKenzie can contribute significantly, our ILB spot is of no worry.

Crable is what he is at this point. This is a guy who hasn't even stepped on the field for a freaking regular season snap and we keep hoping that this kid contributes, although he never has in the first place. I too think unless he absolutely wows this team, he's a goner during camp.

My suspicion is that's wrong with Crable is that he isn't good enough to warrant a roster spot. When's the last time a player became a contributor after not even stepping on the field in his first 2 years? Not sure why anyone's holding out hope that he's going to be able to give us anything, at this point.

From the article, it seems that McKenzie has the same type of attitude towards football that guys like Edelman do. He isn't taking anything for granted. If there is anything within his power that he has to do to get on the field he will do it. That being said, I think McKenzie has a better chance to contribute this year than Edelman had going into training camp last year, and I think that's the kind of contribution we should expect from him - low on the depth chart, but he will be given plenty of chances to prove himself.

I will be happy to replace AD with Tyrone. Even if he doesn't have the same physical ability (not saying he doesn't), he has "leader" written all over him. I guarantee he won't be late for any team meetings.

Disagree. Crable's pass rush abilities WILL win us our next Super Bowl.
