I understand star players get called out for bad games and what not, but the hate for Moss is ridiculous. Honestly, people want to say how we won championships when we had average receivers, but get your heads of your ass, really.
Randy Moss is not why we didn't win the superbowl. When we won those championships, we had a great defense that could make the play when needed. The AFCCG against Indy we lost was because we had no WR to make a play and it cost us. SB 42 we lost because the O Line was getting man handled and the defense couldn't stop the Giants last drive. We lost this game because the O Line blew up, people on offense were hurt (Moss and Brady) and we lacked any depth at the WR position.
For one, Moss has been a top the WR stat positions since getting here. Second, everyones boy Wes Welker would not be NEARLY as good as he is without Moss taking double coverage most of the time. Welker and Moss are a perfect duo and there is no reason to break this up.
Moss was hurt this year and it was obvious, whether it was his back or w/e, he showed flashes of brilliance and then not so much in others. You really want to see guys like Sam Aiken and Julian Edelman as our top 2 guys next year?
Randy has also been nothing but a model citizen and when he was sent home he didn't say anything about it unlike the jackass Adalius Thomas who started crying about it.
Moss also helps Brady read the defense.
We are also forgetting that Brady was rusty from his injury, so it wasn't like he was on his game. He missed Moss deep many times, and there wasn't as many down field bombs as there was on 07 partly because our running game sucked so no PA.
We also lacked a 3rd WR, when we had Stallworth, he was a decent deep threat and could be 1 on 1 coverage and sometimes needed double coverage. Moss is easy to take away because you just shove a safety and a corner on him, but it opens it up for other people.
We are talking about a WR here, and he just catches the ball and makes plays. When people start blaming him because Brady didn't play well, it's stupid. Maybe Brady is just rusty from not playing in a year. Moss takes double coverage, something no one aside from maybe Welker can do. Moss can still make plays. You can't make a legit argument saying cutting him makes this team better. You want to see more drops from Aiken and Watson that lead to picks? Than be my guest. There is no logic behind losing Moss is better because then Brady won't look for him. Sure, every once in a while Brady will just throw it up there, but how often do those lead to INTs? And maybe the overall cast was just better in 01-04. We have no run game at all, and our playcalling was predictable, and there was just a lot of things that didn't go well this season offensively. At the end of the day, Moss makes the offense a lot better for many reasons, and while he may not run all out 100% of the time, it's not like if I had to run 60 40 yd dashes a game I'd go all out either.
And may I add, when people say it's Moss's fault for Brady not looking for the open guy, it's Brady's job to decide who to throw it to and he doesn't have to throw it to Moss. Maybe we should blame Brady for us not winning since 04, not Moss, because as I recall, in Denver and against Baltimore, he sucked.
