I understand star players get called out for bad games and what not, but the hate for Moss is ridiculous. Honestly, people want to say how we won championships when we had average receivers, but get your heads of your ass, really.

Randy Moss is not why we didn't win the superbowl. When we won those championships, we had a great defense that could make the play when needed. The AFCCG against Indy we lost was because we had no WR to make a play and it cost us. SB 42 we lost because the O Line was getting man handled and the defense couldn't stop the Giants last drive. We lost this game because the O Line blew up, people on offense were hurt (Moss and Brady) and we lacked any depth at the WR position.

For one, Moss has been a top the WR stat positions since getting here. Second, everyones boy Wes Welker would not be NEARLY as good as he is without Moss taking double coverage most of the time. Welker and Moss are a perfect duo and there is no reason to break this up.

Moss was hurt this year and it was obvious, whether it was his back or w/e, he showed flashes of brilliance and then not so much in others. You really want to see guys like Sam Aiken and Julian Edelman as our top 2 guys next year?

Randy has also been nothing but a model citizen and when he was sent home he didn't say anything about it unlike the jackass Adalius Thomas who started crying about it.

Moss also helps Brady read the defense.

We are also forgetting that Brady was rusty from his injury, so it wasn't like he was on his game. He missed Moss deep many times, and there wasn't as many down field bombs as there was on 07 partly because our running game sucked so no PA.

We also lacked a 3rd WR, when we had Stallworth, he was a decent deep threat and could be 1 on 1 coverage and sometimes needed double coverage. Moss is easy to take away because you just shove a safety and a corner on him, but it opens it up for other people.

We are talking about a WR here, and he just catches the ball and makes plays. When people start blaming him because Brady didn't play well, it's stupid. Maybe Brady is just rusty from not playing in a year. Moss takes double coverage, something no one aside from maybe Welker can do. Moss can still make plays. You can't make a legit argument saying cutting him makes this team better. You want to see more drops from Aiken and Watson that lead to picks? Than be my guest. There is no logic behind losing Moss is better because then Brady won't look for him. Sure, every once in a while Brady will just throw it up there, but how often do those lead to INTs? And maybe the overall cast was just better in 01-04. We have no run game at all, and our playcalling was predictable, and there was just a lot of things that didn't go well this season offensively. At the end of the day, Moss makes the offense a lot better for many reasons, and while he may not run all out 100% of the time, it's not like if I had to run 60 40 yd dashes a game I'd go all out either.

And may I add, when people say it's Moss's fault for Brady not looking for the open guy, it's Brady's job to decide who to throw it to and he doesn't have to throw it to Moss. Maybe we should blame Brady for us not winning since 04, not Moss, because as I recall, in Denver and against Baltimore, he sucked.

I agree. People are just looking for a scapegoat and Moss is convenient. Moss has done his job all year and has been a good teammate. A lot of guys didn't do well and could be called to task. Watson has had another disappointing year, IMHO. I think TE is a position that should be addressed in the offseason. Moss will still be an effective receiver next year. To just get rid of him would be stupid.

If i were Moss I would moon the haters.

Agreed. It's insane reading some of the posts in here after the season has concluded. A HOFer who demands double coverage and makes everyone around him better is suddenly the reason for losing?

He didn't demand double coverage against the Ravens.

As usual, there is just a few misguided spirits among this forum. It's easy to hate on Moss because both Belichick and Brady have three things that Moss does not. I'll leave it up to you to figure out what those "things" are. However, it's not easy to point out a coaching/personnel failure on the part of Belichick and the coaching staff to add a viable third WR option that can beat single coverage and maybe demand double coverage at times. That's precisely what BB failed to do after letting go of Galloway. Get a viable third option in there and get Welker back from injury to go along with Edelman, and Moss should once again thrive in this offense. The mere fact that Moss went over 1,000 yards and had all of those TD catches is simply amazing considering what he was up against when facing opposing defenses this season. But, once again, people won't see that. It's easier to blame Moss because of his past and bare hands then it is to blame Belichick.

I agree 100%. I can't fathom how people can think Moss, who in 3 years has 3,765 yards (15.1 Y/R), 250 Rec, and 47 TD, is the problem. How does someone who led the league in receiving TDs 2 of his 3 years here not contribute to the team?

Larry Fitzgerald, who has the 2nd most receiving TDs in the last 3 years (35), has 13 less receiving TDs as Moss. That's incredible. 47 TDs in 3 years is legendary, yet people think he's the problem.

The fact is no one can make a coherent argument as to why Moss is a problem for the team. There is simply no logic to argue that the most productive WR of the last 3 years (or ever) is bad for any team.

People try to argue that he isn't consistent or doesn't have enough "big" games, but that doesn't hold up. Since joining the Pats he has had more 100+ yard receiving games than anyone else in the league, as well as the most 2+ TD games.

People argue that he didn't make an impact in the playoffs, but again, that isn't true.

People argue that Moss has had a bad impact on Brady, but again, that doesn't hold up to logic. How can you call the best single season in NFL history a bad impact? It isn't rational in the least bit. We lose 1 game in a historic season and Moss get's blamed. It's ridiculous.

Brady comes back from a year long, devastating injury and because he doesn't play to the level he did in '07, it's a failure and it's all Moss's fault.

It's Moss's fault that this team doesn't have a stronger running game. It's Moss's fault that Brady doesn't make better reads, decisions, and passes. It's Moss's fault that the team doesn't have a 3rd WR. It's Moss's fault that the O-line has terrible games at the worst times. It's Moss's fault that our offensive coordinator sucks. It's Moss's fault that the defense can't get a meaningful stop and cost us a 19-0 season (which would have been won by... yep, a Moss TD).

Or the Jets...there are always exceptions. But as a general rule of thumb, he usually gets double coverage, or is a big part of the defense's gameplan.

The $11M decoy. How much did he produce against the Ravens and Jets?

This isn't even taking into consideration his attitute problems, which, let's not kid ourselves, were very much still there this year. Brady and Belichick had to keep him happy, and he still always wasn't. He's not a leader and he's not hungry.

To be fair, how much did any #1 WR produce against the Jets this season? I highly doubt Usain Bolt could get separation from Revis.

I saw Reggie Wayne working him even with double coverage but we know that the Colts decided that they had enough.

Reggie Wayne worked him to the toon of 3 catches for 33 yards.

It's not fair to single out the Jet's games. As much as I hate to say it, D. Revis is one of the best corners in the game. Just to show you how good he is, here are the performances of WRs who lined up against him:
Andre Johnson: 4 rec, 35 yards, 0 TD
Randy Moss: 4 Rec, 24 yards, 0 TD
Justin Gage: 4 Rec, 37 yards, 0 TD
M. Colston: 2 Rec, 33 yards, 0 TD
T Ginn: 2 Rec, 57 yards, 1 TD
T. Owens: 3 Rec, 13 yards, 0 TD
R. Moss: 5 Rec, 34 yards, 1 TD
S. Smith: 1 Rec, 5 yards, 0 TD (2 INT)
T. Owens: 3 Rec, 31 yards, 0 TD
A. Bryant: 2 Rec, 22 yards, 0 TD
R. White: 4 Rec, 33 yards, 0 TD
R. Wayne: 3 Rec, 33 yards, 0 TD
C. Johnson (ohco): 0 rec
C. Jonson (playoffs): 2 rec, 28 yards, 0 TD

Expecting Moss to have a big game against Revis isn't exactly fair.

Great post. People will remember him more fondly years from now after he's run out of town.

I also don't get all the hate for Moss. I keep reading to trade Moss for draft picks. What kind of picks are we going to get? And who is going to replace his production? Of course, maybe it just doesn't matter. Seems to me that people want to blame someone and Randy just fits the bill. Moss has one more year left on his contract. After that he can sign with whomever he wants. And the Pats certainly could trade him. But if Randy doesn't want to go to that team he will just retire.

In about a halfs worth of play...

Expecting Moss to have a big game against Revis isn't exactly fair.

Not a single receiver had a good game against Revis. As for Baltimore, Moss WAS a decoy. He was a decoy in week 3 of the regular season, but he did "contribute" score wise as well (3 rec, 50 yards, 1 TD). As for the playoff game, Moss was our leading receiver of the game (5 rec, 48 yards). The problem wasn't him, it was the entire team. Brady throws 3 picks (4 turnovers) and looks lost, the O-line falls apart, and the team fall behind 24-0 and you blame Moss?

Finally, there is NO evidence what so ever that Moss had "attitude" problems this year. You completely FABRICATED THAT. Way to jump to conclusions.

People are being ridiculous. I remember a WEEI interview that Belichick was giving last year, and a phone caller asked him, what was the single most difficult player he ever had to game plan for. Keep in mind Belichick has gameplanned for pretty much everybody, including Joe Montana and Randy Moss.

The hosts were giving suggestions such as Randy Moss or other quarterbacks, and Belichick said, even though Randy Moss and them were hard to gameplan for, he stated that you can pretty much shut down every receiver by double covering them. He went on to say that it was not an insult against these players, but it's just a function of their position. His answer was Barry Sanders, because you had to have all 11 guys on defense working to keep him down.
