Re: OT: Reports: Favre on Vikings plane headed for Minnesota, rumored to join team to

I won't be so sure of that. That Vikings team is absolutely LOADED and we've yet to see if Green Bay can get it's defense back to respectability.

Loaded? They have a RB who runs fantastically, but can't catch or block. They have a RB who can block and catch, but is a mediocre runner. They have a great run blocking line that doesn't pass block well. They have no real #1 WR, and no, Berrian isn't one, despite being paid that way.

Their defense was the strenght of the team, and we're still not really sure whats going to happen to the Williamses, and how many games they miss. They're also another year older, and even fatter.

The vikings are fantasy-football-loaded. Their offense was below average, and while a lot of that was Tavaris, Favre won't really fix the issue, as he turns the ball over a ton.

Now, if Adrian Peterson could learn to pass block, that would change things quite a bit. Right now, hes still got Maroney syndrome: if hes in, its a running play.

The only good thing about this is that the ensuing media circus will keep ESPN busy for a while, and thus keep them away from Belichick and Brady. Which suits me fine. Let them all fall over each other trying to slobber Favre's knob, while the Pats quietly win games...

Yup, ESPN and Brett Favre has become Brittany Spears and TMZ.

They have a strong D and a stud RB, but who is Favre going to throw it to? Berrian and Rice are average to below average. Their TE's are horrible in the passing game. Favre could win playing conservative and dink and dunk it, but we all know he won't, and will lead the league once again in interceptions, while killing his team in key moments.

At the very least, it will galvanize Packers nation behind Rodgers, and any former Favre loyalists still there will now support the young QB.

Percy Harvin, Bernard Berrian, and Adrian Peterson are enough. For proof of how good they can be, take a look at the San Diego offense of '06. They had basically the same structure and went 14-2. Plus, Favre had a good year before the cold weather set in last year with the Jets. The Jets offense isn't a hair on the ass of the Vikings offense. On top of that, Favre's old body is only going to have to play in two really cold weather games this season. Week 8 (11/01) @ Green Bay and Week 16 (12/28) @ Chicago. His schedule after the Bye?

Week 10: vs. Detroit (dome)
Week 11: vs. Seattle (dome)
Week 12: vs. Chicago (dome)
Week 13: @ Arizona (warm weather + dome)
Week 14: vs. Cincinnati (dome)
Week 15: @ Carolina (cold, but warm compared to what he's accustomed to)
Week 16: @ Chicago (cold as hell, probably a loss)
Week 17: vs. New York Giants (dome)

After the Bye, only one cold weather game. Playing in a dome that much will allow Favre to air it out. I don't care if he's 40, he still has a cannon for an arm. For the Chicago game, they'll rely on Adrian Peterson. I want Green Bay to blow them out as much as you or the next guy, but it probably won't happen. If it does, it happens in Week 8 and Green Bay still isn't "frigid" by then.

This is like Groundhog Day. I looked at this thread and assumed someone had made a snarky comment on an old discussion.

Wow. Fun development.

Yeah, they could be good. But they better have that #2 ready to go in December.

Favre has traditionally struggled in domes. Further, Minnesota is a team that's not going to be helped by Favre airing it out so much.

If you look at my last post, they're not going to need him.

Replace Adrian Peterson with LaDainian Tomlinson, Chester Taylor with Michael Turner, Philip Rivers with Brett Favre, and Bernard Berrian with Vincent Jackson and you have the '06 Chargers. Again, same make-up with both teams. The Chargers went 14-2 despite having the same perceived "weaknesses" which you are pointing out.

Look at what Favre did with the Jets before having to play in the cold weather last year. The Jets are far less talented offensively than the Vikings are.

I think Favre will have a good year.

Kontradiction - Favre was awful for the NYJ last season and the majority of locker room hated him by the end of it.

I'm just saying that he will be able to do it. Minnesota isn't going to need Favre to air it out. They'll just need him to be a better caretaker of the offense than Sage Rosenfels and Tarvaris Jackson.

Especially Thomas Jones, who was the Jets' MVP; yet Favre's slinging took the ball out of his hands when it should have been there the most. In Minnesota, Peterson is a better RB than Jones, and you'll likely see a repeat of the same story.

Favre is not a caretaker and never has been. The man threw as many INTs as TDs last year. That was significantly more picks than anyone else in the league (Cutler was next with 18).

Based on what weve heard from the media, the Vikings lockeroom seems to like him as some campaigned (including AP) for him to come.

Before he had to play in the cold, he did a pretty good job considering that his top threats were Cotchery and Coles. His body is simply too old to play in the Meadowlands or Lambeau in December and January. He won't have to do that this year.

I hate Favre as much as the next guy but how was that his fault? If anything, you should blame Schottenheimer for that one.

His act in the locker room and his attitude toward his teammates was inexcusable though. I will give you that one. Wait, it wasn't inexcusable because it happened with the Jets! :D

What is funny is that his agent, this morning, was asked about the rumors and was quoted as saying that "Brett is staying retired".

But if you want a caretaker QB, Favre is not one. He's going to turn the ball over more than any QB in the league. Peterson has fumble problems too. The Vikings are going to be a turnover machine next year.

Favre has a cannon for an arm, sure, but the problem is the aiming system attached to that cannon. . . .

Through Week 12 (the Titans game), Favre threw 20 TDs and 13 INTs. If he had kept up this performance, he would have repeated his 2007 numbers which were good for Favre's standards. Unfortunately for him, he played in some frigid temperatures and as I've stated numerous times in this thread, his old body couldn't hold up. He had to play in the Meadowlands three times and in Seattle (in a snow storm no less). That, along with a biceps/shoulder injury, would explain his horrible numbers down the stretch.

And he only NEEDS to be a caretaker. If he isn't then that's the fault of Minny's offensive coordinator for wanting to see Favre air it out more than hand it to the best running back in the league. Finally, who would you rather have overseeing your offense: Favre or either Jackson or Rosenfels? The answer is simple for me.

What free agent QB currently on the market would be a better option than Favre, Jackson, or Rosenfels?
