I was surprised when they made this move, but not really shocked (DBruinz made a great case for it). At one point, I had the Pats keeping all three, but that faded when we never saw Cunningham again after the first game. They might have kept Zappe if they hadn't picked up needed OL in hte last days.
For the move itself, I'm perfectly okay with it. Unlike with Hoyer a couple of years ago, they've exposed Zappe to Waivers, but so what? Seriously, if he was a kid with Trey Lance's potential (but not Lance's costs!), then I'd be scratching my head. But he's not. He's short, has a weak arm, can't scramble, gets passes batted down over and over.
Maybe he'll be an okay back-up, but if he's claimed, there are many who could do that sitting there and have better physical traits, better arm. People mention Will Grier, for example.
As for him knowing the system, I don't buy it. It's a different system and he looked absolutely lost in the last game - and not just because of the OL. He was lost. His screen lob is the kind of thing that gets a player at the NFL retired in a hurry. BOB was clearly unhappy with him.
I don't think they lose him to waivers, or Cunningham, for that matter, but if they lose both, shrug. I prefer they protect Wade and yes, Bryant - depending on Jack Jones, they need them. With Bolden IR'd, I'm glad Speed was protected, for now.
