I think they'll improve on their 4 wins from last year but I think .500 is about the best they'll do.
The Jets are simply not a talented football team. Favre helps them in that he will win them some games and lose them some. When you are good enough to beat a lot of teams Favre is a detriment, particualarly at this stage of his career. But when you aren't good enough to beat a lot of teams, he makes you competitive.
The way the Jets schedule lines up, I expect: They won't beat us, and should go 2-2 vs Miami and Buff. 1-3 vs the AFCW, 2-2 vs the NFCW. (I would say that 3-5 could become 4-4). That means beating the 2 intraconfernce teams from AFCS and N would get them to 7-9 or 8-8.
Best case to me is 8-8 worst case is 6-10.
The Jets, IMO, have set the franchsie back another 3-5 years with this move.
First, Favre wont help them win anything meaningful, then THEY will deal with the retirment circus next year. They will have to start all over again finding a QB. They have raised expectations to an unealistic level, so Mangini will be fired when they fail, Tannenbaum right behind.
Then they bring in new people, who almost certainly will employ different philosphies than the 3-4 2 gap defense that they spent a boatlaod of money overhauling.
Today set the destiny of the Jets will not see a playoff berth until at least 2011
Who is Favre going to throw to? Cotchery and Coles? Dustin Keller may be their only threat for crying out loud. .
