Yahoo Sports: 10 reasons why Pats-Seahawks SB was greatest football game ever

I think a lot of folks for a few moments thought it was over...Ill admit I did....the team never quit though...amazing
What else were they going to do? There was no tomorrow. Might as well go balls to the wall.

The point about the high level of play throughout the game is really significant. Everyone has gushed over Game 7 in the World Series this year - but the quality of play in that game really was subpar (errors, baserunning mistakes, Lester's WP for 2 runs). It was exciting, but not great baseball. SB 49 was a great game played at a high level.

Someone (can't remember who) called it this generation's Ice Bowl - an iconic game that will be remembered for ages - punctuated by a spectacular finish.

I just watched the game (again) and the thing that got me besides the Pats winning was Collingsworth and Michaels doing their best to trash Brady over the fictional ball pressure. They deserve all he contempt Pats fans can deliver for their contribution to the NFL conspiracy.

Absolutely.

"I can't believe this crap is about to happen to us for the 3rd time!!!! Why didn't he call timeout!!!! Son of a bit........YES.....YESSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

I swear to god every time I watch that play, the beauty of it brings tears to my eyes.

People wanted blood, but 2 weeks prior to that might have been the issue that started the downfall of the NFL Their hubris and bias of that time and what followed will be cited as the point when people started to turn away in droves.

I'd say that concussions and domestic violence have done greater damage to the NFL than deflategate.

The biggest reason for the decline of the NFL is simple though, and we've seen it coming for years. The Brady vs. Manning rivalry was simply the most compelling moment in the league's history. You had possibly the two greatest players in the history of the game repeatedly going head to head for 15 years during the pinnacle of the league. 7 MVPs, 6 championships, 10 Super Bowl appearances between them. Now Manning's gone and the league has done everything in its power to tarnish Brady - who now dominates a league with no true rival.

Once Brady retires, the NFL is going to go through its post Bird/Magic/Jordan phase. There is no transcendent superstar on an NFL roster to spark the interest of the masses.

I don't think the league intended on the Pats winning that game. It took a one in a million play to change the outcome the league office was counting on.

He could've added a paragraph about Edelman's amazing clutch catch in the 4th quarter and keeping on after that brutal tackle. This game simply had everything.

Without a doubt. The sb between colts saints was similarly great but not quite as much.

Its quite rare 2 GREAT teams meet in sb, its usually some mediocre 9 or 10 win team that catches fire at the last moment. Hopefully the last 3 super bowls becomes a trend matchup wise , though only one of those ended up actually being good.

Until that game he had Peyton as the greatest QB ever ????? Wow. Most people I know would not have PM in the top five! Obviously, opinions differ!

I noticed that also.

Before that SB game and after that SB, Tom Brady was a better QB than PEDton. He proved where it counts, on the field.

Every time I think of the Butler play I can't help but smile and think of Goodildo and all of his lapdogs, sitting there among their family and friends with smiles on their faces as Seattle gets ready to score. Then BAM! The Butler Did It. They weren't smiling then.

Let's not forget that the Seahawks were about to go back to back and duplicate the Pats feat from 03-04, so that also had to be on the mind of Fraudger and all of his cronies and clan. I wonder if any of them cried. I hope so.

Not to mention Defamegate. In spite of them trying so hard to destroy the Pats and keep them from winning, the Pats were champs again.

Going on 2 years later and it still feels soooooooooo good every time I see or think about that moment.

and people forget, but there was that ridiculous catch to get them there in the waning moments where it was like....not again (had happened twice before already against giants and we lost both)

I watched the second half last night and definitely think that Edelman was concussed after that hit. Chancellor caught him good in the head, and despite making a couple key plays after it (including his TD), Edelman was hurting. Tough mo fo

Yea I've done the same thing.....and its was a pleasure every time.

My conclusion was that potentially three things were going in his mind.
1) he was kinda moving into MB and was just putting his hands up to soften any potential collision.
2) The ball was kinda moving around a little and as he saw MB trying to secure it, he was trying to get his hands up to help him hang onto it. One MB hits the ground, High jumps down almost right on the ball to help protect it from any Hawks trying to pull it free.
3) He just trying to push him out of the EZ but I'm less convinced that is what he was trying to do.

I think it was a combo of #1 at first then it became #2.

How did I miss that one? Great video....and it includes the elusive Ernie Adams!

Hey our guys were screwed over in 07 when the Gints were brutally holding our OL....and Seymour had Eli in the grasp until being held and dragged down allowing Forehead Jr. to throw the face mask ball....we've had our share of bad luck.....great to see us get something to go our way when Malcolm made the pick to clinch the championship!!!
