I can only remember one egregious drop by Thornton in his short time here.

But I remember numerous camps I attended and games watched where Thornton was wide open behind the defense but no QB could throw that far or was even looking. Mac couldn't throw deep, his line after 2021 couldn't block for long and Mac was terrible at recognizing blitzes or alerting his linemen to pressure.

Thornton needs to stay healthy, the line needs to block for what usually amounts to a five step drop, the QB has to put touch on the ball and possess the arm... a lot has to go right for a deep pass to be successful. That's why it's a low percentage play even when it's a great QB throwing to a great deep ball WR.

Those conditions certainly have not existed here for Thornton even when he's been healthy. He's not a slot receiver, he has a very specific skillset. He deserves a chance along with every other young player who suffered through these last two years of offense.
