WR Chris Hogan injures shoulder

Probably just dislocated or a contusion. I'm guessing the coaching staff tells players to take it easy with injuries in camp and sit out if they feel any particular pain or weakness. Not worth the risk.

Hulk Hogan was doing well up until the injury which we hope is not serious. That said I kinda like it when players we are depending gets a little nicked up in TC Hogan will be part of our Offense he already have the talent so he has nothing to prove. More opportunities for questionable players at the position.

My sources say the arm was removed at the socket and donated to science. He's thinking of continuing his career as one handed catches are more popular with the kiddies these days.

Asked about the pain, Hogan replied, "With the arm gone, there's one less thing to worry about."

Shoulders are tricky things. They don't heal with repeated impact. As a new player in a new system, it's critical for Hogan, and all the receivers, to be on the field to find out if they can read the defense and react as as they must to fit with Brady and Garoppolo. I don't like this at all.

Hogan runs the risk of being cut if this doesn't work out. His contract calls for $1M in base salary and a $4.5 roster bonus. If he's cut in camp, he'll still be a sizable cap hit.

Hogan is also looking at a boat load of talent competing for that 5th spot. There's a nice combination of speed, experience and size in WR room.

My guess is that he winds on the IR - designated to return, unless a more critical player is so classified, since teams only get one of these.

By the reports, it is minor. He played after it and stayed on the sidelines instead of going into the training room. Sounds like he was just being cautious.

No one who has practiced can go on the PUP list. Only options are IR, short-term IR (only 1 spot), cut, or 53-man roster.

I feel this thread should be a sticky since this comment comes up all the time: 2016 Patriots Active PUP list

Thanks. Fixed it above. I see him as a possible IR - Designated to Return possibility, unless there's a more critical player who should be so designated. I'd reserve this designation as long as possible for an offensive lineman since that's the greatest weakness and the depth is so suspect at this point. With Vollmer, Stork and Cooper already missing practice, that entire positional group is a mess.

Source: Team doctors have been forced to amputate both of Hogan's arms at the shoulder. When asked to comment, head coach Bill Belichick said "Yes, this is a blow. Fortunately for Chris, he'll still have better hands than Aaron Dobson."*

*It's a joke, people

The one player to IR rule has changed a bit for this upcoming season--just FYI.

Teams no longer need to declare the player they are bringing back ahead of time, but you can still only bring back a total of one.

Note to NFL* - Football is a brutal sport. Players get injured often, sometimes badly.

Maybe you could adjust the rules a bit to allow for more generous use of returning IR. Baseball is much less physical yet allows multiple options for players dealing with various severities of injuries, to get healthy and return.

Give up a bit of profit if necessary, it's about the players and you!

This has been discussed in other threads. It sounds good on the surface but the problem is that teams would inevitably use the IR list as a shadow roster and could even use it to field a substantially different team for the playoffs than the one that played the regular season.

Hard to know what to think with all these conflicting reports.

A lot of teams field substantially different teams in the playoffs now, they are just forced to sign players off the street, rather than their own, better players.

Hank Poteat says "Hi!"

I'm trying to confuse Volin, I don't about the rest of these gossipmongers.
I think Volin reported that Hogan was waived and flew to Uzbekistan for a colonoscopy shortly thereafter. Or maybe it was the other way around.

I STILL wonder why I am forced to see Volin's social media link at the top of this board every day. I would think the length and breadth of Volin's ineptitude would warrant an eviction from our sacred pages.

WHAT up, Ian?

Ian has already posted on the topic. He says that Volin has had broken some informative stories and, unless something changes, won't be removed from the site.

That's somewhat true but it doesn't really address the inherent problem with allowing players to come off IR and rejoin their team. In my opinion, if there were such a rule, it would almost certainly be abused because it would be impossible for the league to police it and make sure it's being used as intended and not a way to stash players away.
