Flowers definitely has great feet and vision, but is he, at his size, elite and thus worthy of #14? In preference to potential LT1 or CB1?

If that’s what happens I’ll probably wave the pom poms thinking of the highlights above but then will be holding my breath when he ball is snapped for real.

I can’t see him lasting until #46 but t what the hell do I know?

I don't think he'll last until 46 either... He might not even last until the end of the first round; but there's still no way - No Way - that I take him at 14.

I love watching tape on him and what he can do for an Offense
Not at 14. As the draft approaches I want either a LT1 or CB1
I say that because that seems to be where the value is and also a need
LT is by far the biggest need. If your QB is not protected the the rest of the cast of characters is mute
CB1 would help with solidifying a very good defense
The WR’s are smurf‘s and that worries me. But want one in the first 3 rounds. Just not at 14.

Interesting stuff from Chicago this week. They deleted the video but we have a few screen shots. Two things missing here are age & production. They were getting a lot **** for having a 3rd on Jones but I don't see anything wrong with taking a shot on an athletic player in the 3rd or 4th round considering thats the end of the real draft. Age and production have to be in there though.

"Length" sticks out for tackle bc of Skoronski. You have to think they're looking at Wright, Jones or Johnson. Also no mention of run blocking. I would lean Jones or Johnson but we'll see.

If Florida DT Gervon Dexter can get off the snap quicker (understatement lol) he can be Chris Jones. Steal in the 3rd/4th round. I love Mazi Smith as a 3-tech as well.

The Patriots’ defense lined in a 3-4 or goal line/short yardage formations which require a NT on only 11% of snaps in 2022. I mention this because I still see people saying the Pats should draft a NT as high as day 2. Same discussion as last year with Jordan Davis and Travis Jones. Anything the Pats do wouldn’t surprise me but using a high draft pick on a guy who plays 11% of the time seems like a waste of a valuable asset to me

On the other hand, I think that the Patriots defense has had its biggest successes when they've had a massive NT: Ted Washington and Vince Wilfork, obviously, but also Keith Traylor, Alan Branch, Danny Shelton. They've been on the field a lot more than 11%. Has the defense moved away from that for independent reasons, or is it that the lack of a dominant NT has sent them elsewhere?

Just how valuable is a great LT to a winning football team? I ask this looking at the career of the Browns’ Joe Thomas who will be inducted this summer as a first ballot pro football HOFer. Lauded as one of the best at his position to ever play the game, the Browns only finished over 500 once in his 11year career averaging only 4 wins a season.

It’s hard to imagine a team having an historically great player at QB, WR, TE, CB or edge rusher only averaging 4 wins a season no matter how inept the rest of the team might be.

The last 3 SB champs lined up Orlando Brown, Andrew Whitworth and Donovan Smith at LT. None of whom will ever be lauded as one of the best ever.

What I’m thinking is while good offensive line play is essential to winning football it’s the quality and depth of the unit having a greater impact than having a red chip player at one of the positions. What I’m also thinking is with so much shotgun being run and so little deep drop pass plays, the interior line play might now be as important if not more important than the tackles.

I think the Patriots can win as many games over the next 5 with Tyler Steen playing LT as Broderick Thomas. But, they’ll win more games if they use their 1st rounder on a red chip boundary corner or tight end than a LT.

You need to have personnel on the field to adequately defend the pass on nearly every play. That’s how the game as changed. You put 3-4 personnel out there against 3 receivers or 2 good TEs offensive formations and you’re going to be scored on very quickly,

Danny Shelton was an integral part of the defense that won the Super Bowl against the Rams. Has the game changed since then? I'm not convinced.

Right now I'd be happy if they used a 7th on Beef Curtain Jerrod Clark from Coastal Carolina via Dorchestah MA.

Looking at your post again, there is a non sequitur.

Yes, the existence of spread offenses and so on creates a need for nickel, dime, or big nickel rather than a front-seven base defense. But if you're only playing six in-the-box defenders does that mean that you need your IDL bigger or smaller? Seems to me that the argument for a run-stuffer in the middle gets stronger if there are fewer linebackers to fill the holes.

@BaconGrundleCandy - Is Saldiveri rated a 3rd/4th because of the competition he played against only?

I did notice that he's got a 31" Vertical. Broad is OK at 9'3".

Informative thread:

He's been on my PTP sheet since I put it out. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he goes late 2/early 3.

Honestly competition means little to me, personally. I've always felt like that. It matters but if someone has an NFL skillset it'll translate regardless if they comp they face is terrible. It does matter though. Maybe they haven't faced a ton of size/press outside? I always focus on what someone can do though. A lot more than what they can't do or who they're playing.

Finishing up grading prospects tonight. 90% is done. Then I'll put all my attention in the PTP sheet but it's a good 80% done. Anyone not on or doesn't belong lmk.

*edit*
Just a bit(h going through all these athletic drills. Pro days, new guys popping up. Scouting prospects was a lot easier when I first started. Yes there's more info than ever that helps a ton but the amount of prospects spread over the country has grown exponentially. Along with how fast the game/positions are changing. It's gotten easier in some respects but also more difficult in others. Plus life. Maybe another year or two, we'll see.
