So recently I've posted a few times about getting a trading for a WR. Specifically one that's under-targeted but producing. Tee Higgins, for example. Basically 1K/5 TD/14 per rec with 110 targets or less - coming into this year.
Mac hasn't really shown he can elevate average WR's - not taking a shot at him. It is what it is. Until he does, he hasn't but why make things as hard as possible for the guy. We know who he is. Let's do the right thing and get him some help. Yes we all know the OL is priority #1 but we have to handle multiple things at the same time.
Having a true WR1 isn't a ticket to the SB but it's important in today's game, no?
KC - Kelce (yes he's not "technically" a WR lol)
Bills - Diggs
Miami - Hill
LAR - Kupp
Dallas - Lamb
Vegas - Adams
Cinci --Chase
Vikings - Jefferson
Rams - Kupp
Detroit - St Brown
SF - Deebo
Seattle - DK
Arizona - Hop
TB - Evans
Phila - Brown
Now look all these stars aren't the sole reason their teams are successful or offenses are near the tops in the league but I don't think it's a coincidence either. Sure Chase has Higgins and Boyd and others. Hill has Waddle. Brown has Smith. Theres Burrow, Herbert, Allen, Mahomes etc.
Many are saying collecting talent isn't a bad thing!!
So there's what 15 teams above?
10 are top 10-12 in scoring, passing yards and total yards I believe.
We have a bunch of capable WR2 and WR3 but have been sorely lacking a stud since Gronk left. I can't help but come back to this as I'm doing again but a further look at some of the #'s and impact we see on the field and I think it's safe to say they matter.
It would be nice to see Kobi back with Bourne + a real WR1 to keep that stability and make make the transition smooth.
At 14 I'm probably leaning CB over OT/WR rn. Very early but not a lot will change there.
I love Jon Jones, had a 3rd on him while he went undrafted but there's an argument to be made we could use some size on the boundary. Especially if Jones leaves. Jack's play strength is lacking and his size is what it is so again there's a real argument to be made there imo. I'd be on the phone with Denver asking about Surtain and Jeudy.
TE is a mess, anyone you bring in has to block lol. It's been a ****tshow. I don't want to hear about Smith anymore. You legit need to scheme and lay the ball up to him for an impact. Henry is a vg rec TE but we're lacking a true blocking and rec threat. Fortunately the TE position is stacked in the draft. I want no part of Mayer at 14. Like the player but he's not moving the needle on this offense. Upgrade in blocking although his technique needs a lot of work but I don't like the value at 14. No way not with the position we're in. Go get LaPorta (Iowa!), Darnell Washington, Dalton Kincaid, Daniel Barker, Brenton Strange, Luke Lachey (Iowa!), Zack Kuntz or Joel Wilson in RDS 2-5
OL has to be addressed though bc while we're lacking starters our depth really betrayed us this year. Ending the 1st quarter of the season is when it started to fall apart and once a few guys went down, weren't available it went to **** quick. We absolutely have to stabilize this unit. It really doesn't matter who's calling plays when your line is ****. Like a lot of this team we have pieces in place but some real work ahead of us to field a playoff type unit there.
Depth inside and 2 starters if Trent leaves plus a swing isn't an ideal task in one offseason but it's what we're faced with.
This happend. Lots of fun this year watching is unit piss on itself game after game. No doubt cost us two games. This has to drive Bill nuts!
So far Mac has been an average QB but there's no doubt this year was too much for him. Unless there's a clear upgrade he's getting a year 3 and hopes he has a ton of help. Anthony Richardson is an intriguing project to sit a year as competition. I mean it's worth a conversation considering we're at 14. Higher than when we got Mac. Highest pick in a long time so there will be opportunities and all options should be on the table.
I'm tired and falling asleep to Reservoir Dogs (youre gonna be ok lol - classic) but then you have FS, Kicker and OC.
We'll have a ton a of money and picks though. So we have some serious flexibility. The problems won't be easy to fix but they're not hard to figure out. Bill has always to see the same issues everyone else sees. We saw the recent efforts at WR & TE so we know he can see a problem and address it. Hopefully better results this time.
"Is it bad??" "As opposed to good!"
Go Pats !!!
I should think it's too late for that given the building of this team. The window will be the next 3 years. I'm guessing it's going to be Jimmy Garoppolo if they move on from Mac.Very interesting idea with Richardson. They could easily just "try again" at QB here if they feel Mac is not going to develop into what they hope for. I do wonder if it'd be wise to keep Mac as the starter at QB with another first rounder behind him or if it might make more sense to move him for picks and sign a veteran for 2 years.
It's a classic with an amazing cast. Keitel, Roth, Buscemi, Madsen are spectacular. No special effects, cgi or special locations. Very simple all-around but a masterpiece imo. I love anything with Roth and Madsen in it.Reading your other post I want to watch this great movie tonight
dito here, but i like buscemi the most out of those. dude is fun imo. all tarantino movies are just real classic and must-watch.It's a classic with an amazing cast. Yea no doubt it would be a little bit of a shot at Mac but Richardson is a project and we've seen this before with all the greats. Jimmy while Brady was in his prime winning SB's. Rodgers with Favre and now Love with Rodgers. I wouldn't trade up for him but he's one of those options I'm looking at. Like if he falls in the late 20's or second RD you might really have to take a hard look at him.Very interesting idea with Richardson. Yeah I think he can be really good with some polish. Patriots have historically been very good at developing QBs although I don't know if that's necessarily still true with the current staff. Hopefully things get back on track in that regard.Yea no doubt it would be a little bit of a shot at Mac but Richardson is a project and we've seen this before with all the greats. Mac's getting a lot of help thrown at him imo. I have to believe RKK is sick of the empty parking lots after games. No playoffs and be taken off prime time. I think we all can expect big changes in that regard.

Imagining them signing Garoppolo, trading Mac for a 2nd, using the 2nd to trade for Hopkins, then using #14 on Richardson and letting him develop. Keep Zappe as well for any games Garoppolo can't play due to injury. Use your own 2nd and onward to target drafting primarily OL and DB. Doubt all of the above would actually happen though. Maybe you could keep Mac and just trade your own 2nd but that would definitely be a bit of a strange QB situation.
I have to agree in regards to Kraft, he's very prideful of how the Patriots brand has transformed from a pretty basement-level franchise when he bought the team up to where it was a couple years ago - I have to imagine getting dumped from prime time games stings him quite a bit.
I think Garoppolo is better today than Mac, and he knows who he is. He’s not going to be upset about a kid drafted behind him on the bench. You might have an issue if you do that while Mac is still your starter. But yes, the injury issue is something to consider. You’d have to be confident you could manage games okay with Zappe and hope Garoppolo doesn’t miss too much time. I also think they’d probably be coaching him pretty heavily to protect himself. The problem with that is, at least in my opinion, any money spent on Jimmy G is pissing in the wind. He's too injury prone and I'm not sure he's much, if any, better than Mac Jones.
If the 49ers had gone for Jones over Lance I think people would have a whole different narrative about him.
I agree about Peppers. Duron Harmon is a free agent so maybe it makes sense to bring him back. He's not extremely dynamic but does have a nose for the ball. Harmon and a mid-round draft pick might get it done. You could also convert Mills to safety, but then your CB depth is even worse. The Pats have a knack for finding good CBs in the late rounds/undrafted and developing them though, so maybe they could find a way...Wouldn't mind re-signing Peppers to a 2-year deal with a small signing bonus & partial guarantees... Still room on the defense (depending on The Situation, of course) for all of him, Dugger & Phillips on the field at the same time... They'd have the Big Safety/Small LB role covered; we would then just need to add a dynamic, field-covering Free Safety (Shaun Wade? Draft pick? Free Agent?)...

Wade will probably get a chance at FS this offseason but probably get cut by August.Don't know at this point how highly Bill thinks of Wade's ability at CB, based on his playing time & the results when he does play... FS might be the only way to salvage his career here, or anywhere else...
