Will We Get Any Production From

Branch
Allan
Harris

Three players seem to be nonproductive. Obviously, these are expensive drags on the cap. On the other hand, other players like Wise and Butler are great bargains. Three players doesn't seem to be a very large number.

The rest may be doing less or more than we might expect. But, there is certainly strong possibilities of improvement as the season continues. BTW, I don't include Richards or Grissom on the list because they contribute as special teamers.

I suppose, if Allan is indeed a quality blocker, then he is of great use for 2017, although very expensive for that role. It would seem that Branch and Harris might be simply cut, unless they are injured.

Allen is pretty much a blocker at this s point, and as much as I hate to say it I think Harris must be toast given how reluctant they are to play him. Branch is going to have a good season when all is said and done imo, They have their hands full turning this into a quality defense but they can still get that done.

Add Burkhead, Mitchell, McClellein, and Valentine to the list

The four you mention are clearly injured. That is is another issue entirely. Burkhead was already showing something before he was injured. The others won't come back unless they are ready to contribute.

Branch - If this guy can get back on board and play at the level he did last season the passing and rushing defense gets a huge boost. Injuries aside Branch has been the biggest disappointment so far.

Allen - Is coming along and he has been been close to making some big plays but he and Brady are still not on the same page. His blocking looks good and he can handle DE's but I've noticed some issues when run blocking while in motion. Still he is a solid blocking TE with potential to add some offensive plays now and then if he and Brady can get in sync.

Harris - I have no clue. He hasn't played.

Why cut Branch? He's got a different personality and was disciplined last year, but is our best DT, especially with the improving Valentine out. Unless you enjoy seeing us gashed by the running game.

BTW, why do people think getting rid of every player that has a down game or has trade value, will help us? If posters had there way we would only have three players left at year's end.

I love Branch but he's not producing for whatever reason. He skipped voluntary workouts and showed up reportedly out of shape. He hasn't produced on the field either. So I wouldn't call him our best DT right now.

When Mike Reiss tweets about his issues and posts supporting video something is wrong.

I do hope he returns to his 2016 self because he's a beast NT and this defense could use the boost.

I agree with you that he shouldn't be cut, but I also agree with the premise of the thread, too. He belongs on the list for consideration.

OTAs--skipped.
Training camp--failed the conditioning test, as usual. Missed the first 12 days.
Regular season--4/5 games have seen him with 12 snaps or less, with totals of 0, 6, 12, etc. His high for the year has been 21 snaps, and that was with a poor performance. There was a period where he was benched and passed on the depth chart, which looks like it's still in effect. Throw in leaving him back in Foxborough on a road trip and it's easy to see why some people are starting to wonder if he'll be a part of our future plans.

If Valentine were healthy and playing, he may have already been out the door. Let's hope he turns it around. We need him. Prior to the last game, the rush defense had given up 531 yds on 105 carries for a 5.1 ypc average.

Noone wants to get rid of them. When a player does great we are allowed to praise them but if they do badly you gotta let them be critiqued as well. With that said Allen is being paid as a top tight end but isn't producing as such and his blocking isn't even top tier.

Unless you are talking about next offseason then all 3 are most probably too expensive to be cut. Now I doubt that there will be any trade market for Allan or Harris at all, but maybe someone will take a flier on Branch for a very late round pick. He has a very unique physique.

But I would assume that until next year all 3 will be part of the team.

Yes and they are needed

I thought they could only come back after 8 weeks??

No one mentioned that slacker Edelman.. why can't he "walk it off"??
