Will the Patriots trade Matt Light?

Given the age that premier left tackles can hang around in the league performing at a reasonably high level, I wouldn't in a hurry to move Light at all. I saw nothing in his game this season that showed his play falling off a cliff. He's a solid and stable performer -- not all-World -- but he plays well enough.

Kaczur and Koppen are the biggest liabilities in my book. Kaczur has never really been a strong presence, and Koppen in my eyes took a step backwards this season.

But Light isn't a premier LT. He's an above average LT at best. And the thing is, do you really think that the Pats will extend him to a big money contract at the end of the year when they have Vollmer waiting in the wings? Perhaps it's better to get a pick for Light now, then get only one year more of Light's services and let him walk as a free agent? There's value to keeping Light, but there's also value to trading him (a draft pick who could turn into a young player who will be around years after Light is gone).

1.) Vollmer was the team's best tackle last season. He'll likely be able to play at a high level again this season.

Corrected your post for you

Is it me or did Vollmer seem to do better on the left side. I know Light prefers the left side. Maybe it's time to sell high with Light. I would trade him for a high 3rd or low 2nd.

Vollmer was excellent on either side. He even had a good game against the Ravens in the WC game.

Vollmer struggled alot once he came back from his concussion. Teams targeted him a bunch.

Bull****.

He gave up 12 pressures and one sack all year. Did he feck struggle.

IN the texans game vollmer was moved around from LT and RT but the texans moved there line around to create matchup issues.

Vollmer started at RT before moving to LT when they pulled Light and put Kaczur in. They had to move Vollmer back when Kaczur began sucking. And the Texans were moving their line about whether or not, Williams took snaps at every position on the front seven bar DT during that game.

After the concussion his play dropped and also with game tapes they could exploit his weakness.

BS.

a reason he played more rt in the end . Let say we trade matt and vollmer never comes back strong or gets another concussion then you are fine with LeVoir as LT?

Vollmer was excellent before and after his concussion. Your argument is a complete straw man. And I would be fine with LeVoir at LT, he's done very well in the small amount of time he's had at both Tackle spots.

There's none so blind as those that wont see.

I remember him having more trouble on the right side. But, I don't remember him getting reps on the left side once Light came back.

I'm at a loss. Which games did he apparently struggle in?

When Light came back, Vollmer took over the RT spot as a starter, it's no surprise you didn't see him, although he did see some 40 snaps there post-Light's return.

Yeap he was struggling and so they put light on one side and gave help on the rt side.Kazcur got injured and he was playing hurt. so it was easier to just have help assignment on 1 side.

Last year the most inside presure came when neal was not in there. the right side of the line was having issues against 3-4 teams as the 3-4Ends were getting to the RG alot. Vollmer will actually be better as a match up against 3-4 ends as a gaurd.

Wow. That is bad.

I agree with all of that, although I think Light is a very good LT. Not in the class of Thomas, Long, Clady etc, but second tier certainly.

As they always say, better a year early than a year late.

Vollmer Lt, Mankins lg, Koppen C, Connolly RG, Light/Levoir/Kaczur-Rt
This is the best case scenario, Vollmer's a keeper, Mankins isnt great in pass pro, Koppen is experienced but lacks the strength and pro bowl qualities, connolly like a hochstein is very valuable and very underrated, and versatile for cheap, and the problem remains at the Rt position, they all suck in pass pro imo...

Future wise we will need a stud center(maybe wendell, Connolly, orhnberger will develop, we dont know) in the next few years and a right tackle, everything else is in place and we r fine at guard and left tackle for years to come..Tight end will be an issue in two years if not addressed soon, qb we are fine with brady for 3-4 more years and im actually stoked and very impressed with hoyer as our backup and possible future, rbs are always easy to find and same with wr's, we need an upgrade at 3-4 end, olb, t, p, rb for the future and a future number one wr to take moss's place soon...

light is old.......light sucks.......light is hurt all the time....

lets trade him for a 2nd rounder!!!!

LMFAO

i am getting tired of c n kaczur and light get their ace' beat in the playoffs or deep in the season and causing brady to fumble...i understand light and kaczur are experienced and leaders but dude we need a definite upgrade over them with our pass happy offense...Honestly im overall fairly content with oline but individually vollmer is the only one that puts a twinkle in my eye and mankins in the run game..

Would you care to give us specific examples of them getting their a**es beat in the playoffs? (Other than the Ravens game )

OTOH, SB 42.....Come to think of it that SD AFCCG wasn't a tour du force.

The Giants pressure was successful up the middle, not the outside. I knew someone would mention that game

No your right. Matt Light had two false start penalties in that game, because his ADD was kickin in.

Right after Neal was injured I might add.........I wish we coudl stop talking about that game, I hate the f'in game.

I will not and cannot watch it again until after we win our next s/bowl (even if it takes 42 years). As I did with the Packer game, I could not go back and watch that until after we won our first, not sure why that is, but that's how I roll.
