How do you think our young, going through growing pains defense will do against the wildcat tonight? I have not watched Miami much this year, and am not sure how much they have been running it, but I remember the first time they pulled it out against us and tore us up. I think they will use it often and effectively and its going to allow them to set up the long ball to Marshall. I think that this should be a pretty close game. Praying for pats to pull it out 24-21....GO PATS!

Since the wildcat is widely used in college football and alot of our defense is only a few years removed from college i dont think it will be a big issue.

I think the "Wildcat" (really the decades old Single Wing with a couple of 21st century twists) is no longer the surprise for an NFL game that it was a year ago, so the D will respond to it as well as it responds to the rest of the game.

If Miami hadn't used it the last 2 seasons, it would be very hard for them, but they have used it, so the coaches will have been training against it!

I seem to remember some stat in the Jets/Dolphins game last week where the Dolphins wildcat is averaging something like 2 yards per play so far this year. I think the whole league is no longer caught unaware.

Since Belichick was blindsided by the Wildcat the first time Miami ever used it, he has successfully defended it. Knowing how to defend the Wildcat isn't that hard. The question is whether the Pats can execute to protect it. Knowing what to do won't be the problem though if they don't.

I sure hope we see the wildcat tonight! This year they've been awful, averaging only 1 yard out of the wildcat as opposed to around 10 yards last year.

Maybe Pat White completely useless

yup, all these guys saying this are right

the wildcat has been horrendus for the phins this year, its served to kill off their drives when normal running and henne's throwing have been good...

seems like the staff down there just doesnt want to give up on it though, not sure why

last year we destroyed teh wildcat, i dont fear it this year

I thought you were going to give me some hope?

The Wildcat is probably pure win for us because it means the ball either isn't getting thrown, or won't be thrown with someone as accurate/effective as Henne.

I'm much more worried about Henne throwing hte ball than I am the Wildcat. See the Boomer Esiason thread for more on that. :bricks:

... the wildcat was so good for Pat White he's now switched to baseball with the KC Royals. The wildcat will be like a double or triple reverse soon ... a gadget play that seldom works. personally I used to like the direct snap to Faulk ... I'd like to see that play called a few times here and there for Ben and Danny.

Question for you or anyone else who can answer it. Can you do a direct snap while a RB is in motion? In other words, since the Patriots often start with a RB next to Brady in the shotgun, then motion him out to play WR, could they motion him in front of Brady and snap the ball as he crosses to catch the D off guard, or is there some motion rule I'm not aware of?

We wanna see the wildcat as much as possible tonight. Last week using it killed a rhythm Henne had going (on several occasions) and it's easy to plan for now. I doubt Miami uses it much now that they have a capable passing offense and it stunts Henne's growth.

exactly. Wildcat was great when it was new, but teams caught on quick and it's pretty much been a non-factor. It slows the offense down more then anything
