His contract is not really coded on Overthecap properly. It's really an option bonus, which can be traded to the new team. So the dead cap is not actually that bad at all. In reality, they will be incentivized to trade him because if they don't then they are on the hook to pay that option bonus themselves.
There was an option bonus paid this year of 28.58M. There is ANOTHER option bonus that will be paid in 2026, but if he's traded before it's paid out, the NEW team has to decide to pick up the 2027 option since 2026 is already guaranteed. (see below)

If the Eagles trade Brown after the SB but prior to the option bonus being paid they would have a cap hit as follows:
SB Proration of 20,584,702
Remaining Option Bonus proration of: 22,864,000 (bonus was paid in 2025).

Total cap hit: $43,448,702 (as shown on OTC). An increase of 20M over what

The NEW team would be responsible for the 2026 Option Bonus of 27.45M (which is guaranteed), the 2027 option bonus of 19.405M, the 2028 Option bonus of 29.36M, and the 2029 option bonus of 28.319M.

So, the cap hit for the NEW team would be:
Salary - 1.3M
Workout Bonus: 250K
Pro-rated portion of Option bonus: 5.49M
Total: 7.04M

NOTE: the new team could choose to pro-rate the option bonus over fewer years, would would raise the cap hit.

that was a nice catch, and a better run after catch

@Ross12 just indicated that the deal isn't properly reported on otc, so, who knows at this point, what the damage would be... at least i dont know...

No problem, it's very hard to wrap your head around because OTC has it wrong and Spotrac has it "right" but not in very much written detail. So you have to kind of study it at length to grasp it. And of course, most contracts are not written this way. I don't fault anyone for misunderstanding it. I have to guess once he is acquired, NE would basically tear the deal up and re-write it more traditionally.

Not sure how you think that OTC has it wrong. I just did the numbers and they have it correct. I literally took the numbers from them to show what the hit would be in my other post.

Yeah I’m still feeling pretty confident that he will be traded this offseason and Vrabel will be the guy who wants him.

Brown/Hollins + Williams/Boutte outside with Diggs/Chism in the slot will be a really good unit for Maye. Beef up the OL and DL and overall depth more in the draft and free agency and you are off to the races.
I'd like him too, but at what cost? ie draft picks and cap cost Let along the emotional risk to your locker-room

At Brown's age and production this year, I think they will be selling low. A second or third round pick. And I posted what it would cost the Pats if he was traded by the trade deadline. He really isn't that expensive for a true #1 WR.

oh man... huge play

AJ Brown before he was drafted said that he grew up a Patriots fan and was hoping to be drafted by the Pats. He said when the Pats drafted N'Keal Harry he went into his closet and cried his eyes out.

Yeah. All that is meaningless, honestly. As I mentioned to Uptown who responded 30 min ago.

Such a good throw!

because I don't care enough to dig into it at the moment... otc said 20m cap hit if traded before 6/1 ... ross indicated the numbers were different on spotrac... I trust what ross says (for the most part lol) something to look into on another day, at another time... he wont be traded tonight, so eh...

I don't think it is meaningless. Most WRs are headcases. A lot of them can go from locker room cancer to OPOY candidates when they leave a bad situation to a place where they are happy. If AJ Brown comes to the Patriots, playing with Maye, for Vrabel, and for the team he grew up a fan of will go a long way to making him return to his 2022 form where he was one of the top WRs in the league.

A sort of unique scenario I could see happening would be Barmore for Brown.

I appreciate all of these great close games we've gotten so far........Now I hope we ruin all of that and beat the chargers by 20.

Eagles lose, Patullo’s toast..

ugh, another pic

purdy is killing the niners tonight

Eagles ain't losing with this defense.

Nothing like a handful of jersey there .. nothing to see, it was the darlings...
