I'm watching the game-that-shall-not-be-named on NFLN (first time I've watched it since that horrible night). Score is 7-3 late into the 3rd quarter (1 minute to go). Patriots are ahead. "Worst Super Bowl ever" comments were already being made last Sunday by the 3rd quarter. So, anyone who brings up the fact that 3 TDs were scored in the 4th qtr of "that game" is missing on the fact that the declarations of "worst ever" were already happening by the end of the 3rd. The difference is that the Patriots lost in 2007-08. If they had lost this last Sunday, no one would have called this "worst ever." They'd all be celebrating.

Just a side note: Brady is standing in against a fearsome rush in this game (I forgot all of it) and the OL, particularly Light and especially Kaczur, are just an absolute disaster. Wow--is Kaczur getting blown up each and every play? What a disaster he is. He is ruining the entire offense. Getting blasted.

Also, 4th and 13 at the Giants 31, and the Patriots go for it instead of kicking a FG!?! What? Forgot about that.

EDIT: forgotten things. On the Giants last drive, I remember the Asante Samuel INT drop, but I had forgotten that on the same drive, Rodney dropped an INT, and so did Merriweather deep in the Patriots end--had it go through his hands. Merriweather's had a bigger degree of difficulty than the other 2.

When Stephen Neal went out that tipped the balance in the Giants favor. In this year's SB I couldn't help but think of this game and knew we would win if the OL stayed healthy but if they lost it would be a repeat.

I had lunch at the 99 restaurant and this was playing.

The Asante Samuel INT chance was EXACTLY the same level of difficulty as the Gilmore INT. Jump, raise arms, receive ball, win Super Bowl. No WR interference to speak of.

Forgot all about the Meriweather chance. It would have been a spectacular play, but we've seen dozens of more improbable catches in Patriots' Super Bowls alone. It would have rendered the Tyree helmet catch that preceded it as meaningless as the Kearse miracle catch.

Side benefit of beating the Rams the way we did: Super Bowl 42 will no longer be the first Super Bowl mentioned when it comes to discussing incredible offenses being stifled in the Super Bowl. Pats got two TDs. Rams only got 3 points.

I actually told someone the other day that this game was basically Super Bowl 42 without some JAG catching a ball against his helmet and the patriots won this time and no one calls that game boring. It’s only because the Pats won that people say that, I mean how can you find a tie game in the 4th quarter of the super bowl boring?

From this perspective it was certainly one of the best Super Bowls ever. You have millions upon millions of haters having to watch an un-entertaining game (from their fluorescent lights scoring is awesome standpoint.) Then it must have been so intensely frustrating to watch Brady struggle and the Rams fail to take advantage like 9 times. I'd say the 31 suffering hit an all-time high in terms of bitching and moaning, though it lacked some of the great agony of watching the Butler INT or the 28-3 comeback. I'll give it an A-. It would be an A+ if Brady got an undeserved MVP trophy and held it up to grin in advance about the oncoming flurry of outrage.

A greater mystery in my mind than the Butler benching.

SB 42 wasn't really a "great" game. It's memorable because of Tyree, and biggest SB upset ever. It was quite boring from about the 2nd quarter to the first Giants TD.

They went for it on 4th & 13 because: A) Gost said he couldn't kick it B) Defense was playing well and they figured points on that drive weren't a must. But I'm just guessing.

53 was not the most excited Super Bowl ever but it was tense and a tie game mid way through the 4th. It was much better than the Seahawks beat down of the Broncos (though I did enjoy that one) or the Ravens stomping of the Giants let alone the complete borefest of most Super Bowls in the 80's.

I have never watched any super bowls involving a QB named Eli, after their initial airing, and I never will.

I think that was pretty early in the game still right? I think at that point they were still operating under the assumption that the record breaking offense would find its rhythm. I think they felt more confident than a team usually would that they could convert it.

I agree with this. Looking back though, there was no reason to go for it. Ultimately, they missed out on three points. And guess how many points they lost by? Yepp...3. But I see some of the reasoning.

I recalled going for it on 4th and 13 but I thought it was bc we were further back. If it was at the 31 then I agree that is very perplexing.

Another lost nugget from this game. With The pats trailing in the final minute Brady threw an insanely long pass ( I’m talking like 70+ yds in the air). It got tipped away from moss but oh what a throw. Moss was probably gassed from the run but if jilumped up and caught it, that could have been the best catch in supe bowl history

Obviously it would've taken alot for him to catch the pass you speak of. But in general, Moss was a guy who came up short in big postseason games. That's what puts Rice above him imo..And the numbers too of course.

Ya it’s crazy to think that In the same season he had 23 tds and 8 100 yd games that he only had 1 catch in each of the first two playoff games
