Why should the Patriots fear any team?

I'd say Mayo didn't have enough fear. No sense of urgency.

There are, of course, situations I prefer not to face.

Like Buffalo if we've won the first two games against them, or a completely healthy former champion.

But that's different than fearing a team.
There is ample reason not to fear any team.. whenever this patiots team has struggled it's been by things self inflicted on thier own..

Like the steelers game earlier this season. The last time they made it to the playoffs they were blown out of the stadium by Buffalo and they lost to them the 2nd game of that season in Foxborough! With teams emerging like the Texans for example.. I'd find it hard to see KC, Baltimore and Buffalo all making the postseason this season. We'll see!

That Texas Defense is nasty up front. Makes me jealous. Luckily, their offense is abysmal

Exactly why they aren't a threat Stroud has regressed and thier offense led by nick caley makes AVP look like Mike martz... thier edge rushers absolutely I gush over.. as a fan..

This team, even at its worst, should never, ever fear a team. Maybe respect another team, but I will turn off the TV if I ever hear a player say they fear another team.

Secondly, they should be respecting every team they face. Even the Giants, Jets, Bengals, etc.

But, because I'm not a total prick and understand what you're saying: the Rams seem pretty solid when fully healthy, as do the Hawks. But all teams have looked overwhelming vulnerable at times this season.

Baltimore if they keep it up, Bills are a little harder knowing Williams is out, but I think Durden and Farmer only get better each game they continue to fill in his snaps.

If Denver has any meaningful offensive production, they'd be the clearest threat. They have the secondary to shut down the pass and their DL can easily overwhelm our OL on a bad day. Peyton is a decent, tested coach, as well.

Very, Very fair points. When it comes down to the postseason.. if we saw a team like Denver.. I'd like McDaniels over Vance Joseph in the OC vs DC match up.. how you attack an ultra aggressive defense like Broncos is you have to stress them with the quick game and TEs.. Drakes going to have to be patient and take the 5 yards passes.. that's a game where you don't want to be testing Surtain deep..

Remember when everyone wanted Caley? And…he demanded top coordinator $$ to come here?

Bullet dodged.

Now, I admit to having a bad feeling Bowen will be our DC in 2026.

That doesn’t excite me.

No team fears another team. That’s ridiculous fan speak.

With the stretch run coming up post bye coming up. Wanted to make mention of things being said locally and nationally about the Patriots should not want to play this team, or should want to play that team. Malarkey! They are 10-2 the first team to get ten wins on the season. Whoever they draw, they will play!

They have positioned themselves by playing high quality ball all season. They have taken the coaching, have bought in to what Vrabel is doing and are learning from winning as opposed to losing

There are things that they can improve on absolutely as it's been discussed on the forum.. they are even with basically every other NFL team as far as injuries go.

So why should they fear playing anyone? Aren't they also a good team? Well coached? Elite QB? Yes we know the chiefs, Ravens, bills are all contenders.. throw in Denver, indy as well.

One thing I can rest assured on as a fan is that Vrabel's not coaching his team to fear anyone. This patiots team even with the injuries and deficiencies can hang with anyone in the league. They didn't get 10 wins by luck!

Do you believe they should operate by "fearing " and avoiding an opponent come the postseason?

Appreciate your thoughts!

Let's go patiots!!!
No, we shouldn't fear any team.

However, neither should any other nine teams in the AFC playoff hunt.
=============
Consider Houston. Who should they fear?

If we beat the Giants, Jets and Miami, we have a 78% shot at first-round bye.

But that's a little deceptive in that if we also lose the remaining two games the percentage drops to 46%.

This.

What fans believe and what players think are totally different. No Patriots player would go in to the postseason thinking "we are improved. Whatever happens today is just gravy."
TBF, all of this is about our expectations.

I'll post my list here. (3) was a joking hope rather than an expectation. But I think the first three were all reasonable expectations and all have been more than met.

I have never liked the whole, "house money" talk. It has always been silly to me. I was also wrong about this team going into the season. So what? Expectations change when reality changes. Not to mention, there is no guarantee we will be a better team next year or be in a better position to make a deep run next year. You can't take these opportunities for granted.

The fact is, we are 10-2 RIGHT NOW and in position to make a deep run RIGHT NOW. There is nothing house money about that. We are one of the better teams in the league and we should expect to win along with all the other better teams in the league. House money my ass.

If CJ Stroud catches fire lookout.

Like most things in life, expectations are dynamic.
Do you think Washington players were happy to make the playoffs last year, and would have been happy losing their first playoff game, hello no!.
There was much uncertainty at the start of the year, but that was long ago, our expectations now are far different than 11 weeks ago.
We are #1 seed in the AFC as of today, anything less than a SB will be a disappointment for me, and I'm sure the players and coaches feel the exact same way.
Every team has one goal, to win the SB. As the season progresses that goal becomes unrealistic for some teams, and very realistic for others. We are squarely the latter.
SB or bust for me.
Every season has 31 losers and 1 winner.

Exactly.

Only way to get to that spot would be through some of those "scary" teams.

Bring it.

If CJ Stroud catches fire lookout.
Huge IF

If he struggles down the stretch, and wastes the defense, he should play out his 4th year before getting a contract.

Alot of pressure on him

We shouldn't "fear" any team in the AFC right now. But, I do think there are certain qualities that some of these teams have that would easily beat us in the playoffs.
1. The explosive QB (Lamar, Allen, Herbert) - if they play to their full potential & scramble a lot.
2. The dominant DL (Texans, Broncos, Ravens) - if they scheme us up, could destroy our porous OL.
3. The clock-killing RB (Colts, Bills, Ravens) - if they commit to pound the rock, they could own TOP and beat us.

By this metric - Ravens show up in all 3 - and could be the team that we'd have the least favorable matchup.
Thankfully (and not) we'll play them in a few weeks and get a good test.

Projection for final standings.
*(shocker if Bengals win out - but could be Ravens at #4)
**(more shocking if KC wins out - but not impossible)
1st Rd: I think we could beat Colts & DannyD in the cold. (this could easily be Chargers, and even KC - scary)
2nd Rd: Texans, Bengals or Bills - that'd be a 50/50 game - even at home.
3rd Rd: IF we won, its probable that we host KC or BUF in AFCCG
Because more likely that KC or BUF go to Denver and win in 2nd round.

House money is when no one else expects us to win. We expect to win & have won. All these other teams have some sort of “dominant” attribute (run game, pass rush/defese, elite WRs, postseason experience etc..) which analysts, media etc attribute to who they think will be successful in the playoffs & ultimately win the Super Bowl. We have none of these on field attributes. We have no elite units on our team. However, what we do have is a young, poised, dynamic, MVP caliber Quarterback, an elite/experienced OC & head coach and team that has completely bought into Vrabel’s philosophy & style of coaching; which makes us formidable. Obviously, getting the #1 seed would help immensely to reach the SB. The point is that we are playing with house money because THEY don’t believe & take us for granted; but WE have all the confidence in the world in our abilities, preparation & coaching. Remember, a majority of the media & others think we’re “Fool’s gold” despite our record & resilience. That’s fine; let them continue to declare their nonsense. We’ll continue to win, get healthy just in time for the postseason & win the Super Bowl. HOUSE MONEY. **** em!

You think the 6-6 Chiefs win out, the 4-8 Bengals won out, and the lowly 10-2 patriots limp home at 3-2.
You should watch some Patriot games. They are really good.

BK keeping it real in the hood yo.
