Why not 7 WR's on the opening day roster?

If they can find WR’s who can block and tackle on special teams they could easily carry seven. It will also depend if they think they can slide a guy like Crownover to the PS without losing him.

That's basically the decision. Keep a Crownover or a 7th WR to develop.

Also how Dippre looks because without a trade, I don't think one of those 3rd TE's is staying.

I think DeGennaro for example will have to continue thriving…. which he has, and has done so with all three QB’s. If he continues to produce through joint practices and preseason, they won’t be able to hide him from the world.

At that point the Boutte truthers will have to explain to us why we should cut a faster, better, cheaper WR for a guy we’re going to lose next offseason anyway.

And....
it is far more likely than not that guys that hit the PS (use DeG as an example, or Chism) don't get signed by another team to their 53.

Why?

Putting too much on his plate, having him trying to do too much when he isn’t doing any of it well is not the best path to excellence.

Get him snaps and experience, it all helps.

Getting him experience at not playing well trains him to be good at not playing well.

He has to keep pushing, learning, improving… this is how training camp works for rookies.

Piling too much on him doesn’t help him learn and improve, it has the opposite effect. He learns to fail. Not what we want.

In a perfect world were all top 4 WRs are always available, yes the importance of your 5th and 6th guy diminish greatly.
However that's not reality.
#5 and 6 could easily be #4/5, or even 3/4 with some bad injury luck.
I think we keep 6, the 6 I outlined unless we trade Boutte, which could happen but I think that would be a big mistake for 2026.

I believe we have legit SB hopes, I don’t want to sacrifice this year for 2027 and beyond. So I prefer we keep the guys that are more ready to help today if needed.
We have young UDFAs with potential, but those types are legitimately available as UDFAs every year.

Layering in the fact that anyone who we don’t think belongs in the best 6 today is very unlikely to ever amount to anything anyway
