Why has Bill the GM been so poor the past decade?

I understand your point. As of course what Bill has done in his legendary career can Never be over looked. He was part of the greatest dynasty that lasted 19 seasons and will never be replicated by any organization in any sport.

We all appreciate that about him. However a GM is graded on how they draft players, sign players.

6 super bowls gives any successful GM a lot of leverage. However without the QB it's a different story for Bill. Any successful coach needs the guys to be able to win and be successful. I was hoping Bill could do that post brady. But it's worsened each season. The current state of the roster is terrible, expiring contracts, and contracts to players that even worth it. Most of the roster thst has anything of value going forward is on defense. As well as the acclaim he's deservedly recieved, when the team looks like this he gets the critique. I don't know that Bill or anyone else once he leaves this season will ever bring another Lombardi to Foxborough However the team needs to at least be built back up to compete for one.
Just a reminder, the title of the thread says, "Why has Bill the GM been so poor the past decade?". I was stating that I will take a GM that wins three SBs in a ten-year period every single time.

If you wanted to talk about what we should be doing going forward, that would have a different reply from me.

I'm aware that the thread is.. Thank you. I expressed how I felt, and how it related to him as GM. I'm simply saying of course you'd take a GM that wins superbowl what organization wouldn't.

However without the players I don't care how legendary a GM is won't be Winning games let alone superbowls.

My wild conspiracy theory: Bill gets a % of the money he saves Rub-It-Out Robert on cap
That is a realistic theory.. don't forget the minimum wage he pays his staff.

I understand the frustration people have with BB's drafting, but there is way more to being a GM than drafting players. I prefer a GM that wins SB's and finds ways to maximize every aspect of building a team to achieve that ultimate goal.
You do realize we have been trending downwards for the past 5 seasons to the point where we are the 2nd worse team in the league right?

You can’t just sit blindly reminiscing about Super Bowl glory while Foxboro burns.

Absolutely correct, 5 years is alot of time to have a organization rebuilt.. from the 2021 spending Henry and Judon are the hold overs.

It had to go down like this, in this fashion in order for ownership to veto Bill!

I am just answering the question that RIPats88 posed. What you are referring to is a different question, one which I don't think was the intention of the OP.

I have heard this as well and it really irks me. There is only one TFB. The position has changed and offenses need to have an athletic, dynamic QB in today's league. This is why I want Bill and his guys gone. We need to turn the page and get up to speed with today's league.
There been a lot of great astute posts in this thread, i really couldn't add much to what was already said. But reading about athletic dynamic gbs. all the qbs taken before mac jones fit your parameters and they're all busts except for Lawrence, and hes was suppose to be a once in a generation qb and he hasn't come close to being that. So i'm not sure about what your preaching. Everyones looking for the next mahomes, and there just aren't that many of them

I believe with our defense.. we are just looking for adequate Play at the most important position in football. We need that guy badly. I would hate to see out guys on defense continue to waste thier prime years playing without an offense. As it's currently constructed I have more faith we'll score on defense than offense. We get adequate QB play next season we could be a good team.

I think Simms is incorrect in his wording but correct in theory. I think Bill passes on guys who may not be coachable in his opinion and takes the guy who's more coachable. Rare is the guy who wants to be coached and is great. The league is full of knuckleheads who only use half of what's given them: talent and brains. I think that's why Bill places such emphasis on team captains and leaders coming out of college; they know what it takes most of the time. The moment that guys become an issue in the locker room, stop following the plan, or, most glaringly last year, go off the reservation, they are gone.

Until you're left with a cohesive, mature, motivated, team-first, mediocre nobodies with low ceilings.

And the team that could have had Lawrence won a meaningless game, and that allowed Jacksonville to draft before them and draft him instead. Gee, that's looking familiar for our team.

Usually I let such hilarity pass; but... This is a really, Really stupid/brainless lemming take.

Interesting response.
One of us must be having reading comprehension issues. I definitely am not saying it isn't me, because I have been known to misunderstand things in the past. So could you explain to me why my preference of finding the next GM that will match BB's performance for the past ten years, as being a "really, really stupid/brainless take"? Just didn't think that it would be a controversial thing to state. By the way, the insults don't bother me, but the lack of explaining my "stupid/brainless" take is a bit annoying.

Thst explains everything... like Mike pelligrino the lacrosse player who's tasked with coaching up the DBs..

Billy also has a college Safety coaching...RBs; a former WR coaching...DLmen; and the son of a former DL coach under Nick Saban at Michigan State coaching...TEs.

Mo' money in the Belichick family bank account.
