Baffles me. Arrington is a stud in the slot as we saw last week vs welker and vs the saints as welll. But, for whatever reason, he's absolutely lost on the outside. Still very skeptically that anybody would have offered Arrington a longterm contract of 4m+. That's only one less than what Talib got. Love having him on the team but, hard to believe he's worth that much.

Logan Ryan got hurt when Arrington went to the outside.

Oh. Well that explains it then. Hopefully he's alright. Ryan has far exceeded my expectations.

This is what we invested in our thought to be #1 slot offensive and defensive player this offseason.

Amendola – 5 years/$28.5 mil
Arrington – 4 years/$16 mil

They both have had groin injuries for most of the year and been outplayed by the player thought to be their backup entering the season; you have to love the NFL!

As bad as Arrington is on the perimeter, Ryan is not much better, if not worse.

Both of them are burnable on the outside on vertical routes.

Ryan is being wildly overrated by people on this board.

Ryan is looking good, but he has made some bad mistakes too. I don't think he should be ranked ahead of Arrington in any way.

Arrington is really good on the outside, but for a couple plays a game. I can understand why he is out there, even if I hate seeing it too. Sometimes you got to roll with what you have. Dennard will be back (hopefully) soon enough.

No-one has outplayed Arrington in the slot. The nickel defensive back is a starter in today's NFL and Arrington is one of the better one's in the NFL. 4/16 is a good deal.

I think people are underestimating the importance that BB places on trusting a player to understand the nuances of the system. In fact, it almost seems like it's more important to him than the actual ability to play the system. Logan Ryan is still in the process of earning that trust.

You would be an expert on over rating CB's ... that's for sure.

Hobbs is this team's best cornerback when healthy, which is why teams picked on Samuel before Hobbs got hurt. As an undersized player who likes to play a physical game, Hobbs is being limited by his injury more than a "soft" style player like a Phillip Buchanon would be.

Arrington has been abused this year in the slot, he was replaced by Cole and Ryan at points this season. Belichick is seeing it too, Douglas, Crotchery and others have had their way with him. He is injured in my opinion, he was outstanding the first 2 weeks of the season. I say we take the Amendola approach and blame it on the groin he will be great in 2014 make you all look dumb

At the time, what I posted was absolutely correct. In sports, such things are fluid. Barring retirement, there will come a day when Tom Brady is not a top 5 QB, for example, but that won't mean that he wasn't one prior to his decline.

Admittedly, the irony of someone saying I'm an expert on overrating CBs, when I've consistently been accused of underrating Patriots CBs, was a nice touch.

Ryan seems OK. No 1st year McCourty, but seems OK for a rook. Glad we have him. Let's not make the mistake of rating DBs highly simply because of INTs.

I'm very happy with our current fully fit secondary both in terms of the starters and the depth. In my mind, as the early part of the season demonstrated, it's one of the best in the league.

Hobbs always sucked ... was a great return man ... that's all he was good at.

He hasn’t been McCourty as a rookie that’s true but he also hasn’t had the opportunity to play as much as McCourty. Looking at Ryan the thing I like is he makes plays on the ball, playing under 50% of the snaps he is third on the team behind Talib and Arrington in total plays on the ball with 9 (6 pass defends and 3 interceptions) and he leads all DB’s in sacks with 1.5 while contributing 19 solo tackles.

Hobbes (Heh!) was a decent corner. We sorely missed his capabilities at corner in the years after his departure.

Not true. Ignoring a certain play we don't want to get into, he was clutch in the playoffs. Played well vs Reggie Wayne and Vincent Jackson in the 06 playoff run. Always played injured too. Loved Hobbs. Shame injuries ended his career.
