Why do people want Brandon Lloyd cut?

All Reiss said was that he's not a lock to return, in his "view". He said he doesn't know because he doesn't know how the Patriots are looking at it economically. In other words, he has no idea. Again...

It's his typical "I don't know" answer where he plays both sides of the question because he has no info.

Nobody knows (aside from BB and Co and they may not even know yet). I never said anyone claimed to. Just that they felt it wasn't a slam dunk he does because of financials.

But my point is that he's just saying he doesn't know. He's not making any statement beyond that. You used the "usually reticent..." as if this was something out of the ordinary for Reiss. It's not. This is how he answers questions when he doesn't know the answers.

I agree with this, but he could have an expanded roll in year two. Also, his roll might have been different if Gronk and Hernandez could have been on the field at the same time. They might have let him stretch the field more.

I do agree that you can't get rid of him without a plan. I don't think you can get as good or better for the same money or less. You could definitely go younger and give a long term deal that might be less of a cap hit this year. But younger means more expensive for the same talent.

Agree with all of this except him stretching the field more. I agree we could get the same performance for same or less, but it's easier said then done at times.

In terms of field stretching, I don't think there's anything that'll change the fact he's not a burner at this point, and maybe never was. His asset is going up and winning while the ball is in the air, but we haven't seen him blow by anybody all season. He makes catches in tight coverage, but he can't get much separation.

I also don't see him demanding the coverage we expected and wanted him too.

What he is is an upgrade over Deion Branch, and the kind of WR2 we have wanted for several years. Unfortunately, we are still missing the WR1...

As in the title. Why? Lloyd had over 900 yards this year. He has a low cap hit compared to a lot of other receivers. People are talking like he is our worst receiver. I just don't get it. Is it because he doesn't get good yac? People seem to think that he sucks.

its because people thought they were getting a Randy Moss...and ended up with Santana Moss. I think he is a pretty good WR, we just need someone opposite him that was worth a damn.

I wouldn't argue about semantics in this case because I think Mo was just pointing out the same thing that raised an eyebrow with me as well. I thought while Reiss is usually a guy who won't make a statement without knowing all the facts, I'm with Mo in that I have to say his take on that topic certainly stood out to me when I read it and I also found it interesting.

I'm sure we'll see some improvement in certain aspects with another year under his belt, but I'm not guessing that we'll see his YAC come up that much.

Honestly...i don't think he was used the right way. They had him running what seemed to be 5-10 yard routes almost every time...let him go 15-35 a few times a game.

By the time he caught the ball on his 4 yard slant..there was a defender right there

Reiss notes again today that he doesn't view Lloyd a lock - tough to know if he's going based on what his grapevine tells him or its just a hunch.

Quick-hit thoughts around NFL & Pats - New England Patriots Blog - ESPN Boston

I view Lloyd as an adequate deep threat - nothing more. If we go into next season with him as our deep threat and the team expends resources in other areas, I can live with that.

But I expect the Pats will sniff around any available true deep threats via FA or trade. If they find one Lloyd could be under pressure to renegotiate or be moving on.

His salary isn't exorbitant - and I like the value he brings for his salary, but if Belichick wants to upgrade WR, I'm very eager to see what he's thinking about. There may be some interesting options out there.

Not many deep threats in FA and the few that are (wallace, Gennings...he will be in miami)...want big $$
