Why aren't PI calls reviewable? I just don't get it.

Ok, so it's a judgment call. What's wrong with taking a second look at a judgment call and making a decision on whether the judgment call looks reasonable or not? After looking at the tape, surely odds are highly against making a WORSE decision than the original call.

Simple: Bill Polian doesn't want them reviewable

Next question...

You can review a call about whether the ball should be spotted 6 inches differently, but you can't review a 60 yard penalty.

It's amazing... mind-boggling that they still don't allow PI reviews.

Game speed issues, I'd wager. The NFL is having enough problems trying to keep their 1:00 games from running into the 4:15 games.

I think that's the biggest rule that needs to be changed. A PI gives the team the equivilant of a catch. A catch is reviewable, why not a PI? I know in general, penalties aren't reviewable, but that's not absolute, an illegal forward pass penalty can be reviewed, so can 12 men on the field. It's high time the NFL made PI's reviewable.

You still only get two challenges a game (unless you get them both right), and getting one wrong still costs a timeout. And if that's really the issue, let's push the 4:15 games to 4:45. Longer game means stadium gets to sell more beer, unless all the reviews come in the 4th quarter.

You could actually argue that games would be shorter, as coaches saved their reviews in case of PI at the end of the game. You'd probably see a decline in the # of reviews.

If they are going to make a change, I would rather they charge the offending team with a 10 yard penalty and an automatic first down. Putting the ball at the point of contact is ridiculously unfair, especially when a majority of these calls come on uncatchable balls.

Once there is any contact at all, there's nothing to argue.

I hate the pass interence rule as it is. I hate that a judgement call is the penalty that can give up the most yards and be a game changer. One bad or ticky-tack PI call can affect the outcome of the game.

That said, I can see why it isn't reviewed. A judgement call is just that, a judgement call. Two refs can see a play where there may be pass interference and one calls it PI and the other one doesn't and they both could be technically right. Since the ref who calls the PI and the one who reviews the plays are not usually the same guy, it cannot be reviewed because even in replay two refs could see it differently.

I think their should be a minor/major infraction for PI or make it less sensitive. Some of these calls are pretty bad and the player has a chance to catch the ball anyway

You answered your own question. They should have two different calls. If it's questionable call a 5-15 yard penalty for inappropriate touching or some other name that sounds like a perverted sex offense.

Seriously, give them the option of a reasonable penalty if it's not blatant or obvious.

They have 2 calls. If it's before the throw, it's illegal contact. If it's after the throw, it's pass interference. If the ball's uncatchable on a PI call, the flag is picked up.

The reason they don't do this is because if you are playing corner and you are beat on a 45 yard bomb isn't it worth it to just trip the guy (PI) and give up the Ten yards instead?

Wrong.

The defender and receiver have equal right to the ball. Contact is only PI if on of them isn't playing the ball.

beer cut off is at half time.. 3rd quarter for some stadiums.
