Why all the Tomase hate?

I guess you don't remember his article at the Owner's meeting criticizing BB for not answering questions and skipping out early. Or his calling up Asante Samuel before the draft and asking him what it's like knowing you're about to be replaced. Or doing the same thing to Beisel. Just because he writes an occasional puff piece on a guy who is as impossible to criticize this side of Je.S.Ch. shouldn't fool a keen eyed Pats fan.

That was it! It **** all over BB for not being at the owners meetings. He got spammed so bad by somebody that they decided not too allow comments on his blog anymore.

Maybe many reasins why fans don't like him...a Felger in waiting??? I don't think he started good...and he hasn't done much to make up for it...

Bostonian,
I don't think you fully appreciate the reasons why Tomase is not getting love. He and Felger are approaching this camp like mischevious children trying to cause problems in school. Whether it's Dillon and Sullivan's alleged fatness, which has been contradicted by multiple other sources, expectations that Dillon would "freeze-out" the rookie, the barely concealed giddiness with which Tomase declared that the "Deion Branch Watch has begun", Felger's over-the-top trashing of Eugene Wilson, his confrontational needling of Beisel, the flippant sarcasm about the new kickers... These are examples of people who we as fans have no "trust level" with. Trust in a journalist is built up over years of evidence, and Tomase has none and does not seem to feel that a trustworthy relationship with his readers is as important as pal-ing it around with his goofy side-kick Felger. Reiss is an excellent "reporter" of information, and I tend to believe what he writes because he is not self-serving and seems to value the concept of objectivity. The other buffoons have demonstrated no such attachment to the truth and therefore I give their comments no credence. If you actually believe that the fans dissatisfaction with Tomase is groundless, try reading between the lines.

Good post. I love when someone saves me having to write something.

No, I think FELGER is doing that, and you guys are rather simplistically lumping him in with Felger just because Tomase said something negative about Corey Dillon. Could this just be a place where their points (Tomase's being legit, Felger's being his typical *****-stirring) intersect for a moment?

Nothing like a non-proportional response like these posts to make the rational thinkers among us line up in support of a media guy. Bostonian is right - for the most part, Tomase's columns have included some good nuggets, insight and fair-minded comments - good, bad and ugly. I appreciate his work and the inside details we're getting from him. Not quite Reiss's Pieces, but it's the next-best thing.

Thanks PatsSox! You da man!

I said nothing about "groundless" for one thing, and in my follow-up post tried to emphasize that I appreciated everybody else's point of view.

There are writers in this town, who are over the top pot-stirring jerks. I just don't think Tomase is one of them. Maybe I'm wrong. Who knows?

I've seen several people on here (myself included) who get comepletely RIPPED if we post anything slightly negative. The writers that find something negative to write about equally get RIPPED.

It's too bad really. Again, all points of view are fine with me. I'm not going to dog anybody that doesn't like a writer I like. My post was just to find out the backdrop to why some don't like him and I have a good idea now.

BOSTONIAN1962:

I agree with your point that it becomes difficult to be objective in a chat room when Homers don't want to keep it real, and want to be all rosy about their team. Like, I thought that the Pats last year looked slack BEFORE all the injuries (2nd half Oakland, Carolina). That is not probably a popular viewpoint.

But Tomase is different. He is really a hack with no real interest in the Pats except to save his desk job. He is currently repeatedly violating a gentleman's agreement between the Pats and the media to not quote what is said in mini-camp. He quotes Brady yelling swears in one article, and in another, he quotes the O-Line coach. Then he says that he really shouldn't tell you this, like he's letting you in on a national secret.

What he is doing is violating the trust of the Pats, and I would revoke his right to attend press conferences over something like this.

You say Tomase, i say Tomasswhole
