Who will be the new OC?

Some mediot said that O’Brien told the alabama players he would be back next year.

Some mediots are saying we are probably staying in house. Hopefully this does not screw up Jones’s development.
Things change, plans change, coaches lie.

Don’t expect any wholesale changes, per Mike Reiss. We won’t be bringing anyone from outside the system to implement a new offense. That coach would need to learn the Pats offense first and sprinkle his elements into it.
Hiring Patriots' offensive coordinator looms as big decision for Bill Belichick

"We'll teach coaches our system, and develop them from within so we don't have to change philosophies when coaches change. I have my [X's and O's] philosophy, that's what we're going to do, obviously with modifications. But we weren't going to change offensive, defensive and special-teams philosophies in personnel every time we make a coaching change. I've tried to live by that my entire head-coaching career."

Out of curiosity, what makes you think that the Pats would Change the OFFENSE bringing in someone other than O'Brien? It's been BB's OFFENSE for 22 years. Do you honestly believe he'd allow someone to bring in all new terminology and screw all that up? Whomever he brings in will be familiar with E/P. Hopefully, that person would be familiar with the guys on the team like Henry, Smith, Bourne and Meyers and have an idea how to best utilize the 2 TE sets and get Bourne involved in the game early. He truly IS a catalyst player and they should be targeting him 95+ times a year.

They need someone who isn't afraid to have MAC make the back-shoulder fades because it's nearly impossible to defend. They also need someone who can find a way to get Jonnu Smith more involved. Be it Jet sweeps, Seam routes, or whatever. What they can't do is relegate him to being a blocker and a 6th option for receiver.
I never said theyd change the offense. That would set the team back. I never said they couldnt hire someone other than O'Brien. All I said was it would be bad if Mac had to learn an entirely new offense. Thats what @chris223 was referring to.

The confirmation of the beginning of the end or the beginning of mediocrity. It was great while it lasted.

Moving on? Goodbye and good luck.

Make Bienemy the highest paid OC in the league. That would be a Grand Slam hire. Won't happen though. Bill doesn't like hiring coordinators outside the "family".
Reid, Mahomes, Kelce and Hill are what makes the Chiefs offense run so well. Bienemy is just along for the ride. Any user here could have been Chiefs OC for the last several years with the same results.

That would be the absolute worst thing you could to the offense.
It took all season for Mac to learn it, not to mention just adapting to the speed, talent and complexity of nfl defenses.
Hes now got an offseason where he can focus on getting stronger and improving mechanics. Not to mention continuing to develop chemistry with his receivers.
He'll be able to play faster, make quicker and better decisions and find the open man better this year since he won't have to think as much. If you change the offense now,all that goes out the window and the Pats are almost back to square one. Not to mention Bourne Henry Myers et al were starting to get in synch with Mac- now they too have to learn a new offense.
Mac will play a little freer this year.
Don't f that up.
That also applies to the rest of the offense. Look at all the FA's that also were new to the system last year. Next year they'll all have one year under their belts and the system will be better ingrained.

Interesting info in this article makes some good arguments in Gase's favor:

Dan Koppen was on Phil Perry's podcast this week and he really likes Adam Gase as well (though he thinks O'Brien would be the better option overall). But he played for both, so there's a personal factor at play there. I'm still very much against Gase as an OC hire, but I do think he's more highly regarded around the league than he is amongst the general fanbases.

Agreed that O'Brien would be preferable, but I think most here are judging Gase on his failed HC stints and not what BB might see in him as an assistant. The article makes some interesting points, I think we need to keep an open mind and give him the benefit of a doubt if hired.

That's my plan (keep an open mind if it happens). I just don't want to try to sneakily hedge my opinion on him. If he comes here and does well, I'm fully willing to have my disapproval of the hire shoved back in my face

Similar with Brady. He made a lot of millionaires.

Weis and BOB 5hit the bed. Micky D got run out of Denver. and I dont see things that much better in Vegas.

BB: Adam, sounds like you have landed - congrats!!
Adam: Did you hear something I didn't hear?
BB: New England?!?!?!
Adam: Coach, are you talking to Adam Gase or Adam Sandler. Just making sure.
BB: Sorry -- I f**ked this up. I'm sorry about that. BB
Adam: Thanks Bill.

SMH. So, you go from spewing that Belichick doesn't like hiring from "outside his coaching tree" to "outside the family". As if that would somehow correct your flawed thinking. Belichick has hired from outside the organization on numerous occasions. Both Executives, Coaches, and Coordinators.

**** Rehbein
Mike Woicik
Dean Pees
Greg Schiano
Jedd Fisch
Bret Bielema
Bill O'Brien

All of them had never worked for or with Belichick previously. While Belichick likes to promote from within, he's not above going out and getting talented coaches who he believes can help the team.

Joe Judge coming back as an “offensive assistant.” What a god damn joke.

Why would you consider this a joke? He was an excellent assistant as special teams coach prior to leaving for the Giants, no reason he couldn't succeed here again. Just because the guy failed as a HC doesn't mean he's trash. He knows the system here and augments continuity. We need to wait and see how things work out before passing judgment.

Agreed. Also, word was he was the heir apparent to McDaniels if Josh had left for the Colts job (if not immediately in title, at least in responsibilities that next year). He was also the WR coach on top of being the ST coordinator. He makes as much sense as any current internal candidate to this point at least.

If BO'B was coming back I think it would've been done by now, hope I'm wrong. Saban might not want to let him go, or maybe BB isn't convinced he'd stay here long before bolting for another HC opportunity. We'll see.

Under Judge, the Giants finished this past season ranked 31st in total offense (287.3 yards) and 31st in points scored (15.2). Remember, this unit was also 31st in yards and points score in Judge's first season back in 2020.

At least he's consistent.
