81 has always been a sexy wr number for a long time.......

who is in line to take it?

Tate if I remember correctly was 81 in college.

The Hernandez was 81 for Florida.

who will switch to 81? Just curious to hear your takes.

Tate was #87 in college. Hernandez was indeed #81 though.

But the answer is that no one will wear it, at least for the rest of this year.

I would think Hernandez....

but I am superstitious un poco...

85 is a hot number..... plus why switch your number when you are tearing **** up. (superstition part)

It'd probably cost hernandez a good chunk of change to change his number now that people are probably already buying his jersey. They should give it to some scrub on the practice squad lol.

I thought the NFL prevented a player from collecting on jersey sales.... I thought it went towards the team if $$$ was made.

If your jersey's on sale, and you request to change your number, you have to reimburse Reebok for the unsold jerseys that become unsellable.

How about Tate, who wears #19.

never been a fan of Tate's 19, but 85 sure is workin' for Hernandez. Gates comparisons once he wins ROY?

If we do get another WR he will take it, if not, no-one will have it until next season!

I say let it be for now. For Tate to take 81 this year would put way too much pressure on him. As if he didn't have enough on his plate. Trying to fill Moss' shoes and wearing his number would be just a bit much. If the Pats trade for another receiver this year, then he could conceivably take #81.

well.... Considering how his Jersey is only sold by the "custom" option at NFL SHOP. I do not think that would be an issue if he were to switch it.

I like 85 a lot

FYI- I have not seen Hernandez Jerseys in stores.

I hate 19......

but some announcer made a comment "19 is the new 81"

yeah right.....:bricks:
I started to edit my original post to say that the in #s are low, so he may like 19. But I don't like it either, cause im use to see numbers in the eighties.

No one will switch to 81. Sooner or later it will be given to some rookie WR or maybe a free agent pickup.

The top WR on the 2011 draft off 1 of our 1st rounders will wear it, next year!!

Bethel Johnson.
