Who was the best team the Patriots ever defeated in the regular or post-season?

It's the Rams and it's not even that close tbh. The Rams were an all time offense that had 3 consecutive MVP's, had a HOF QB, a HOF RB who was probably the best hybrid ever, a HOF WR, and another HOF caliber WR.

And 2001 was the year that they got a defense that was really good to go with it. That was sort of supposed to be their Patriots 2004 where they were a balanced juggernaut.

There just weren't questionmarks with that team. We out executed a team that really should have been undeniable in every respect.

The 2000's Colts were usually lopsided on offense accept for 06 when we couldn't beat them, the 2018 Chiefs had a dreadful defense. The 2014 Seahawks for as good as they were had some serious injuries going into that game that happened in like the final two weeks before that game.

If I was going to rank them

1. Rams 01
2. Steelers 04
3. Chargers 06

3 best teams the Pats ever beat and they also didn't get the benefit of doing it at home either.
I dunno man, the stuff you talk about with the Rams is legit, but I think that Seahawk team beats them.

The Seahwawks at full strength maybe. But not the one that's defense was hobbled going into the Super Bowl. The Rams going into that Super Bowl was probably a top 3 team on paper going into that game

Well…the 2006 AFC Divisional round vs. the Chargers come to mind. We had absolutely no business winning that game….I’LL forever remember Reche Caldwell catching that ball along the sideline (R.I.P.) and Troy Brown’s strip of McCree….

01 Rams over the 14 Seahawks because the 14 Patriots were a wagon themselves.

I'm probably going to go with the 2006 season. No WR's, We went into San Diego and won a playoff divisional game we probably shouldn't have. That Chargers team was loaded and was the best team in the league all year, and should have been in the superbowl if not for us.
That Chargers team was going to be the one I was going to say, too.

I think SB win : Rams.

Who was the best team the Patriots ever defeated in the regular or post-season?

'76 Oakland
'01 St. Louis
'03 Carolina
'04 Philadelphia
'04 Pittsburgh
'05 Pittsburgh
'10 Green Bay
'14 Seattle
'15 Denver
'18 LA Rams
One of Peyton's Indianapolis teams?
Others?
I think this should be a top 10 or 20.

One single best team... could be too hard.

We tied the '61 Oilers at Nickerson Field.

We beat the '64 Bills at War Memorial.

We tied the '66 Chiefs at Municipal Stadium.

We beat the '71 Dolphins at Schaefer.

We beat the '72 Redskins at Schaefer.

We beat the '74 Vikings at the Met.

We beat the '82 Dolphins here in the snow plow game.

In '88 Flutie led us over the Bengals and Bears.

Drew personally won so many games we shouldn't have won, but those opponents weren't quite elite.

Forced to choose maybe I'd say

1. '76 over Raiders
2. '01 over Rams
3. '18 over Chiefs
4. '04 over Steelers

It's a no brainer. The best team the Patriots ever beat were the '76 Raiders, who finished the season 16-1 with New England as their only loss.

(I won't go into how Oakland really lost to NE twice that year)

Yes, Mike i feel like that game get lost in the shuffle for some reason...
Because we didn't go on to win a Super Bowl and the team would remake the WRs after that season to much, much better effect. So, I think people like to forget that season.

The ‘76 Raiders game is way before my time, but it looks like a damn impressive accomplishment.

I’d say the ‘01 Rams and ‘14 Seahawks are the best two teams we beat in the Belichick era. Both were on a trajectory toward dynasty status, and their rosters were absolutely stacked. The ‘04 Steelers come close.

I'm going to go with the 18 Chiefs. Awesome game and we now know what that team would go on to accomplish.
I missed this.

We beat them twice that year, both in epic fashion, with a declining offense. It effectively delayed the Chiefs dynasty by a year, and could keep Mahomes from catching Brady.

I think this is the winner.

Your right. We had 10 years in between super bowl wins. 12-4.. a top 5 defense and should have been in the superbowl again if not for the meltdown in Indy..

Greatest show on turf.

503 points scored (1st) ... 273 points allowed (6th)... 230 point differential (1st)

it was a game we were not expected to win... we were raw, our offense was average to be generous, the defense was rounding out at the perfect time though... and we had lost to them earlier in the season... at home...

Greatest show on turf. Crazy that our first 3 super bowl opponents were the 85 bears, 96 packers, and 01 rams. I know sb teams are generally very good but thats quite an ask
That.. and I also give the same credit to the 2018 team, so reminiscent of the 01 team, solid defense, and we were counted out.. that 2018 rams team was phenomenal during the regular season and we held them to 3 points.. in the superbowl encapsulated our last superbowl of the BB/Brady era. I think that game is special.

People kinda forget how poor the Chiefs defense was that year. Their offense was insane. But they were the 24th ranked defense in ppg, the 31st ranked defense in passing yards per game, and the 27th defense in rushing yards per game (which also meant they totaled out to 31st in yards per game).

They were DREADFUL on defense. A big reason we won those games was because while we typically had good first halves, when their offense got going, we still could trade scores because they couldn't stop us.

The Rams team that they would have had to play also beat them by dropping 54 points on them that year.

They were an incredible offense, but they were way too bad defensively to be considered the greatest team we ever beat. Especially when the Patriots have taken out much more balanced powerhouses.

Yup. I said in another post but the 2001 Rams were an all time offensive team that also finally built a very good defense. They were scary good. They lost one game by a field goal and another by a single touchdown before they got to us. They broke 30 points 11 times in that regular season. In 2001 that was absolutely insane. Legendary offenses like the 1984 Dolphins didn't so that. OUR 2007 undefeated team only had 1 more game where they broke 30 points. That was the level they were on.

We beat both teams...

That 2004 Colt team was a juggernaut. Surprised that's not on the list. I still say that 2004 team that had to beat the Colts, the 15-1 Steelers and then the #1 NFC team in the Eagles was the best team.

I always thought the Seahawks were the best team they faced in the Super Bowl. The Chiefs in 2018 are right there as well.

It's amazing the level of success they had against great competition.
Rated one of the best teams of all time, and TB just got better after that.
