Who was the best team the Patriots ever defeated in the regular or post-season?

'76 Oakland
'01 St. Louis
'03 Carolina
'04 Philadelphia
'04 Pittsburgh
'05 Pittsburgh
'10 Green Bay
'14 Seattle
'15 Denver
'18 LA Rams
One of Peyton's Indianapolis teams?
Others?

AFC Championship game in Pittsburgh in 2001. Bledsoe filling in for injured Brady Troy Brown being magic. And Mike Vrabel being a maniac, opening up a can of whoopass on his former team.

I like you're outside the box thinking and I'm going to go with something similar.

Common answer would be to go with '01 Rams or '14 Seahawks because they had already won a SB.

I'm going to go with the 18 Chiefs. Awesome game and we now know what that team would go on to accomplish.

The Rams

Why do I get the feeling the OP is on every board in the league asking the exact same questions/ threads he is doing here?
You have any idea how much work that would be??? Reviewing each of the 32 NFL teams' schedules since the mid '60s???? That's looking at more than 1,800 team schedules.

Those are the 3 for me

'18 Chiefs
'01 Rams
'14 Hawks

Surprised no one mentioned '85 Miami Dolphins.

That was one of the greatest teams to not appear in a Super Bowl.

Marino in those years redefined the NFL as an explosive passing league. He had 5,000+ yards thrown the prior year. They beat the practically invincible Chicago Bears who are to this day considered one of the greatest teams ever, if not THE best team.

Mark Clayton, Mark Duper, Dwight Stephenson, and the Killer Bs plus Hugh Green.

I'm probably going to go with the 2006 season. No WR's, We went into San Diego and won a playoff divisional game we probably shouldn't have. That Chargers team was loaded and was the best team in the league all year, and should have been in the superbowl if not for us.

That 2004 Colt team was a juggernaut. Surprised that's not on the list. I still say that 2004 team that had to beat the Colts, the 15-1 Steelers and then the #1 NFC team in the Eagles was the best team.

I always thought the Seahawks were the best team they faced in the Super Bowl. The Chiefs in 2018 are right there as well.

It's amazing the level of success they had against great competition.

15:28 Tomlinson U mad bro? lol

Wish I could have joined the Pats on the field to mock the lights out dance on the Bolt logo. Lol

Greatest show on turf. Crazy that our first 3 super bowl opponents were the 85 bears, 96 packers, and 01 rams. I know sb teams are generally very good but thats quite an ask

That post game was Hilarious! I remember patiots players too mocking Merrimans lights out dance! Lmao

This may not be a poll but it's close enough that the absence of RLKAG(P2) should at least be mentioned

As to the OP's question
1) '01 Rams
2) '14 Seahags
3) The entire '04 Murderer's Row of playoff opponents. The '04 Pats went through the iron of the league to bring home the bacon. 12-4 Colts (prime Peyton), 15-1 Steelers (had won 15 straight including a manhandling of the Pats, #1 D), and the 13-3 Eagles (tied #2 D with Pats). That Eagles team was 13-1 before resting starters for their last 2 regular season games, they curb stomped their way through 2 playoff games. They get looked past but were arguably a more complete team than either of their SB winners.

Agree! And the manner which they did it, holding the best offense Colts to just three points and then loading 40+ points on the best defense Steelers.

It's the Rams and it's not even that close tbh. The Rams were an all time offense that had 3 consecutive MVP's, had a HOF QB, a HOF RB who was probably the best hybrid ever, a HOF WR, and another HOF caliber WR.

And 2001 was the year that they got a defense that was really good to go with it. That was sort of supposed to be their Patriots 2004 where they were a balanced juggernaut.

There just weren't questionmarks with that team. We out executed a team that really should have been undeniable in every respect.

The 2000's Colts were usually lopsided on offense accept for 06 when we couldn't beat them, the 2018 Chiefs had a dreadful defense. The 2014 Seahawks for as good as they were had some serious injuries going into that game that happened in like the final two weeks before that game.

If I was going to rank them

1. Rams 01
2. Steelers 04
3. Chargers 06

3 best teams the Pats ever beat and they also didn't get the benefit of doing it at home either.

I always felt that way about the Red Sox before the Curse was broken. They may have faced the best National League team of each decade in the '60s ('67 St. Louis), the '70s ('75 Cincinnati) and the '80s ('86 Mets) in the World Series.

When Troy Brown and Big Vince joined in you know it was personal. Lol

Yes, '85 Dolphins was my first thought too. They were the only team to beat the Bears that year.
