Who is your "throw the remote, WTF!" pick

I don't view P.Harvin as a wr. I see him as a possible replacement for K.Faulk.
Decent runner, great threat out of backfield. Not a downfield type of wr. If you look
at him that way, he's good value in Round 2. Faulk,Morris and F.Taylor don't have a lot
of thread left on those wheels.

My WTF pick at 23 is Connor Barwin.

Well, if we all suspect that Matthews is "maxed out" at 241 lbs., we all know that the kid who spends thousands of dollars every month on nutritional supplements is maxed out at 243. Plus he just isn't a very potent pass rusher.

You know he did play at defensive end as a sophomore and weighed 260 pounds.

Yeah, my response was a little too snide. The fact is, though, that in 3+ years as a starter, some at DE and some at OLB, all surrounded by NFL-caliber talent, Cushing's career sack total is lower than what Barwin put up in the first year of his life playing defense. I just don't see Cushing as ever becoming the kind of pass-rushing force offenses have to account for.

I don't think every defensive player that goes high in the draft has incredible sack totals. Cushing is a much better against the run and the pass than Barwin, he just doesn't have the sack totals. You think Barwin is going to transition well in the NFL as just a pure speed rushing defensive end. I think he's going to be much better as a tight end. I would like them both (if we have the opportunity), but I'd have Cushing on defense and Barwin on offense. I think he's going to be an awesome tight end, something like Jeremy Shockey, but weith a better head on his shoulders.

Any TE drafted in the first 4 rounds! Other than that, I will throw my remote if the Pats draft Clay Matthews with their 1st round pick. This guy was mostly a special team guy and played spot duty with USC.

I totally agree.

A few other names that might have me running to Walmart to grab a new remote are;

-Percy Harvin - I like his talent but too injury prone.
-Malcolm Jenkins - With another slow 40 at his pro-day (wait and trade up for Tylor Mays next draft)

Is every WR with elite speed going to be another Chad Jackson or Troy Williamson to you? Because there's really no other comparison to DHB. Jackson was immature and lazy. Williamson couldn't catch. None of these things apply to DHB. In fact, Jackson and Williamson don't even compare to each other...unless you're also grouping them with Bethel Johnson, Mike Williams, David Terrell, and Charles Rogers.

No, but WR's with elite speed and spotty productivity along with questionable hands does raise their spectre to my mind. DHB's productivity does not match up to his physical ability - whether that's because of him or Maryland's system is a big open question at this point. His route running is not refind and his hands are not the best.

In the first round:

I would say WTF to ANY WR, TE, RB, or QB besides Michael Crabtree

In the second round, I'm not sure. I think there are so many good players, I really hope we trade out of the first, pick up an extra second and third, then trade back into the mid to late 2nd with 2 3rds. we'd have 5 2nd's and can take 5 or trade some into next year's first round

No throwing the remote after the whole... "and the Patriots trade up to take Damien Woody, center, Boston College". Obviously not the worst situation to be upset about so I offer these as my picks....

With the 23rd pick in the first round of the 2009 draft....

"Michael Johnson, DE", because at best he is a rushing end in the NFL.

or

"Percy Harvin, WR", Jackson all over again.

I would throw Max Unger or Alex Mack in there but they have talent. Robert Ayers or Peria Jerry, but I'm sure Bill could use them somewhere too.

Laurinaitis and Cushing

Funny that's who Scott Zolak picked as his round 1 picks on Path to the Draft today on NFLN. I totally agree that I would hate either of these picks.

Yeah, but you know how Belichick loves to draft tight ends.

He'd be getting a tight end AND and an outside linebacker. Done deal!

Chad Jackson had excellent hands.

Unfortunately he couldn't run routes or grasp the Patriots offense. Those are the breaks with the draft. Everyone makes some evaluation mistakes. He was considered the 2nd best WR in the draft that year after Santonio Holmes. If only the Steelers had drafted Jackson instead, and we had ended up with Holmes. Imagine this offense??

My wtf pick would be someone like Mankins, who no one was even considering drafting in the first round. I would be outraged, of course, until I saw him play and realize yet again that the Patriots draft board is unlike any other in the NFL and nearly impossible to predict. I love/hate when they make me look stupid like that.:enranged::violent::violent::violent:

That is why I secretly hope we take Tyson Jackson at #23.

My 'WTF' is any offensive players taken on day #1 not named Max Unger.
