I attended the annual Tewksbury Police officers vs. Patriots basketball game tonight. One of the players for the Pats was a number 65 Wesley Britt. The other Pats in attendance included Stephen Neal and Logan Mankins along with DeOssie, Russ Francis, Garin Veris, and Roland James. It was a good time and the players were great with the kids

Who is Wesley Britt? I have to admit I have never heard of him. I follow the Pats religiously and have to admit I never heard of him. I briefly talked to him and he mentioned he played for San Diego last season. Did I miss a signing?

He was HUGE in size so my guess is he is an O lineman.

Britt was signed to the Practice squad last season. He is an OT.

Wesley Britt was an All-America candidate at Alabama at OT in 2005 when he broke his leg at mid-year. He was expected to be a first rd pick. He rehabbed and went to the senior bowl and suffered a stress fracture on the same leg again, and his stock plummeted. He was drafted in the 5th rd by San Diego, but was cut before the season began. Coincidentally, the SD O-Line coach was fired this offseason for incompetence. Britt spent last offseason on the Pats' practice squad, where he reported to his hometown newspaper that he learned more in a week about his position with the Pats than he did in several months training with the Chargers. If he can regain his health I think we can expect big things from Britt. He is also a deeply religious, devout person who refused to be named to the "Playboy" preseason all-america team because he didn't want to be associated with Playboy. For that he was ridiculed in some quarters, but didn't back down.

He seemed like a good athlete. Although the players take it easy in this game, he had a quickness to him getting down the floor.

If you dig into Chris Price's blog back during the season, there was an interview with Rosie Colvin where he discussed how working against Britt in practice was part of what helped him improve through the season.

Thanks for all that advanced info, PonyX.

I've had great hopes for Wesley Britt since he arrived here.

Sounds like he was going places before he got hurt.

The guy (was) is a MONSTER! He was with San Diego before we got him and I was psyched when I heard we got him. The bad side is that he never played, lol. That was due to injury, but I am excited if he can come back.

According to Dan Pires, he was seen playing dominoes with Mankins all season in the locker room.

If he can comeback, we'll have an actual monster on the OL.

If it can stay healthy and Koppen and Light can both fully recover from their injuries it will be a unit to fear.

Having Wesley Britt take a "Red Shirt" year on the Practice Squad allowed him to develop. BB is famous for developing Free Agent O Linemen (Orlando Brown in CLE Stephen Neal, Brandon Gorin, Russ Hochstein, Tom Ashworth). Britt's development allowed the Patriots to let Ashworth walk. They have a $$ limit for each position and developing the lower end of the salary scale players allows them to keep their payroll in check.

I expect continued development from Britt this year. I feel he has the tools to become a startin O lineman in the NFL. Excellent depth. Look for the Pats to draft an Olineman or two late in the draft.

This is the kind of thread I love about this board.
I learned alot about Mr. Britt just now.

As a way of giving back, here's some more from NFL.com:

Interesting part is in the "Negatives" area - notice that many of those negatives center on technique - TRANSLATION: with good coaching........

DO not forget Yates and Mruczkowski who was out NFRI/IR in 03....and took time. Dante has done wonders...and Britt would be a BIG addition!!

You are so right - where else can such in depth knowledge be gleaned?

If this guy can only stop breaking his legs, I think already having a year of Dante having taught him leverage and footwork under his belt, he could progress to making this team and contributing come September.

Nice info - thanks
