Who do you WANT to be the next head coach?

Give a coach for whom it’s not the case.
Even BB couldn’t have a good record with a bad team.

Again he had Matt LaFleur and Artur Smith as OC, Two very good coordinators that left to take HC job because they were very good.
I'm just repeating what Titans fans said about him but BB and KOC, and McVay, even Reid, take talent and make them play above their level as a team. I have no idea what the real talent was in TN, and no idea if the fans know what they are talking about.

I guess that's the point on OC's: he wanted to hire from within to replace guys and was too stubborn to realize they were not ready (according to Titan fans). That's really the big question with Vrabel, since he is not calling plays as OC, if the OC he has does well he probably moves on. Always tricky finding the next guy.

Reading Pats fans online could give you a pretty funny image of Belichick so I would take that with a grain of salt.

I'm as intrigued by Johnson as Vrabel either works for me for several reasons and each has a few reasons to hesitate. Just don't let the dark webs scare you off a good candidate.
It's all part of getting to know Vrabel as a coach. I am pretty good at sorting through the negative people to understand what they really thought of him, with more detail than he sucked or was great. Very small % said he was bad. A half decent anound said he was good/great. Most thought he was a solid NFL coach.

I read the Athletic story on him and impressed by much that was in there. I think the year away from coaching and working in a new organization is just going to make him a better coach. If I had to pick a NON-OC head coach I'd probably pick Vrabel.

The highest % way to long term success is a Head Coach that is also the OC. They don't leave and need to be replaced. Since Offense wins, if you get a good 1 it can make a big difference. Of course, BB, Tomlin, Harbaugh etc. have success not being that way. I just think you increase your odds with a HC/OC type.

I think my order of preference is
1-Ben Johnson
2-Mike Vrabel
Then a bit of a drop to the next group.

If Vrabel is the HC, they need to either keep AVP as QB coach, or hire an experienced but forgotten OC that write into the contract that they can't leave for min 2 years. So they have time to develop the asst. coaches, and not hamstring Maye with the ridiculous carousel that Mac had. We need to rebuild consistency in the system / coaching staff before the team can return to sustained success.

Daboll is staying in NY

Means they are 100% going to have to trade up and get a QB. I think Titans might think Levis is better than Ward or Sanders (who I don't rate as first rounders) so might opt for trade down and Hunter. Browns are 1000000% going QB.
Giants have to get a QB or these guys are gone next year, They could try Free Agent QB I suppose. Not a ton of great options for them

Still looks like 2 QB's and Hunter are gone before Pats pick, I think that's almost 100%. Drew Allar changes his mind and declares then still a shot at Hunter.

I'm a little scared of another first time guy.
And I'm a little scared of another guy with ties to hear.

So I am actually very interested to see what other candidates we can dig up.

I want to take RoundUp to the Belichick coaching tree. Sorry, Vrabel is Bill adjacent.

BB adjacent does not = bad. BB was THE best coach in the NFL for 20 years.
And has been noted - Vrabel is not really a BB coaching tree guy.

He played for Cower & BB
Coached for Urban Meyer (OSU) and BOB (HOU) - who is only partially in the BB tree.

There's nothing wrong with Vrabel's defensive pedigree. At least he's Coordinated the unit in college & NFL, and been HC.
The real question is what offensive guru can we find to run that side?

Personally want it to be Ben Johnson, and then you pair him with an experinced DC so he can just focus on the offense in his first few years like Sean McVay did with Wade Phillips... However i think the Krafts will go for Vrabel

My safe/first choice is Vrabel for all the reasons mentioned.

My second choice is Ben Johnson. I don’t know why but I have a feeling he’s going to be a really successful coach. I really like that this is his third year in a row that he’s been on the interview circuit and the last two seasons he has chosen to remain in Detroit instead of just taking the first job that is offered.

Does Vrabel have a solid OC recommendation . We need an offensive mastermind who can build on the West Coast concepts and help maye take the next leap.

I don't want Josh Mcd
I'm driving that No Josh Bandwagon!!!

The poll is about who you want to be HC, but let's also discuss who you think it will be.

Also: points for figuring out JMCCHWOAPB.

Mods: feel free to merge with another thread.
I want Johnson. An elite, top of the league offense really appeals to me. Johnson can bring that with some roster upgrades. I’m not convinced Vrabel (his OC) can squeeze all of the potential out of Maye.

all the noise coming from Cincinnati seems to indicate that Higgins is gonna stay.

If they want a WR1 I think they will need to trade for it. Hire Vrabel and trade for AJ Brown would do it.

I think Metcalf will be available also
I think the Bengals are blowing smoke. I can't see them tieing up so much $$$$$$$ on WR's.

I believe the decision of Vrabel has already been made, and that Vrabel has told the Kraft's his choices for OC and DC. Josh seems to be lock.

My personal expectation is that we will keep Wolf. There were major changes in the Front Office last year. There should be a lot more this year, primarily more modernization of processes, programs and methods, including the establishment of an Analytics Department, and a major expansion of the Scouting Department. The front office staff is among the very smallest in the NFL. I'm fine with Wolf as head of the front office, although I am also fine with the hiring of a GM, one who works directly for Kraft, not for the HC.

FWIW, someone on fakebook noticed that Vrabel changed his twitter photo to one with him wearing his Pats uni with Bruschi.

I think the reason Mayo was let go instantly after the Bills game was because they were afraid they could lose Vrabel to the Jets. I think they will interview 5-6 candidates and then settle on Vrabel because they believe they can stick with him for the long run, and are afraid another first time HC would end up short term, and they don’t want that instability.

I’m completely opposed to going back to the Erhardt Perkins offense. Changing offensive systems with a young QB is a terrible idea.

I’m fine with bringing in a high ranking front office guy to revamp their franchise infrastructure, but they should leave Wolf in charge of personnel.

I don't think the Polk/Baker duo could handle EP either.

Sure, if they switch to the choke leash.
