Who do you expect to lead the team in sacks this year?

If not Cain, then Abel.

Jared Allen had 4 1/2 sacks in one game against the Packers last season - Hardly a horrid OL

Aaron Rodgers was sacked 50 times last season. Whose fault was it, if not his absolutely horrid OL?

I think there is no way this team goes a whole season without a sack from a corner...Butler,Bodden or even McCourty will get to the QB before the season ends ...Meriweather has a shot to get a few as well.

With the pathetic unscary lineup at OLB,I expect A LOT of Blitz packages from the backfield to ease the front 7s burden

i agree but i don't think they will have much more then 35 sacks but i wanna see them get to and hit the QB more like the jets did last year make the QB get the ball out fast that works just as good if not better that leads to INT's

Aaron Rodgers was sacked 50 times last season. Whose fault was it, then?

Having gone through this on another thread, I can say, with absolute certainty, that Rodgers getting sacked 50 times was the fault of Ben Roethlisberger.

Rodgers is a pretty good QB but hangs on to the ball WAY too long too often

Even the top OLs in the league can't hold back a rush forever when the QB is taking good time to find someone, once Rodgers eliminates this problem he will be an elite QB.

I am going to venture that it most likely will not be Cain to retain the sack leader this year,I don't see it for whatever reason may be.

While it looked good on paper with double digit sacks, the truth is that Tully had 5 of those 10 sacks against the woeful Bills and thier horrid offensive line and he did go 10 of 16 games without a sack.

While Sacks stats are not the most important thing on defense,I,like almost every fan in here is hoping for much improvement there.

Will it be Cain again? or will it be the rookie Cunningham or maybe some inside bull like Spikes or maybe Mayo gets unleashed or maybe the front 3 get more involved like Wilfork or Warren.

IMO longshots would be G. Warren,Guyton,Nincovich or Burress if he decides to return or maybe we see alot more corner or safety blitzes resulting in someone in the secondary (if a player in the secondary is leading the team in sacks I think we would be considered to be in trouble with the pass rush )

Who is your pick for player in 2010 most often to knock the QB on his ass?

This is a terrible analysis. You can chip apart any sack artist's totals. Most sacks for everyone, of course, come in bunches against the most favorable matchups and against the weakest teams and the weakest offense lines.

10 Sacks is 10 sacks. Hate all you want but TBC had a very good year.

Tully Banta-Cain with around 8 sacks. That said it's very difficult to project anything given the uncertainty in this defense's performance. We just don't know how "awesome" it's going to be and when .

I'd be pretty pleased if the entire defense was north of 40 for the season whilst creating plenty of turnovers, fumbles, pass deflections and QB hurries etc.

To further my own point here, I did the same analysis on Julius Peppers ( since everyone was dying to sign him ). Peppers had 10.5 sacks last season, with 3 coming against teams with winning records. TBC had 10 sacks last season with 3 coming against teams with winning records.

10 sacks is 10 sacks, no matter how bad you try and spin it.

Even the top OLs in the league can't hold back a rush forever when the QB is taking good time to find someone, once Rodgers eliminates this problem he will be an elite QB.

Two points:
1) Rodgers does hold onto the ball for too long, but the idea that you can pin the blame for 50 sacks on the QB is one of the more ridiculous things that I've ever heard. If he had been sacked half as many times, you might have a point, but 50 sacks requires that *everyone* in the process, from line through to the QB, suck against the pass rush.

2) Go back to your original point, which I was arguing against. You're willing to discount TBC's sack total because 5 came against the Bills, so why wouldn't you say the same for Jared Allen? Over half of his sack total came against the worst team in the league at pass protection. Doesn't change the fact that he's an elite pass rusher.

If you'd prefer, look at DeMarcus Ware. 4 of his 11 sacks came against the Chiefs and the Packers, who are both terrible at pass protection. Elvis Dumervil had 4 of his sacks in 1 game against the objectively terrible Browns (and 2 more against Oakland), 6 of LaMarr Woodley's came against the Lions, Chiefs, and Raiders, 3 of Calvin Pace's came against Oakland, 5 of Trent Cole's came against the Redskins and 49ers, 4 of Brian Orakpo's came in one game against Oakland, 4 of Julius Peppers' came against Washington and Tampa, 3 of James Harrison's came against Detroit, 3 of Aaron Schobel's came against Atlanta... am I making my point yet?

So, once again, two points:
1) GB was the worst pass-protecting team in the league. The reason why is irrelevant to the point that you're trying to make (although you're completely wrong in claiming that the Packers' OL is any good).

2) You're criticizing TBC for exhibiting a pattern that every elite pass-rusher exhibits. If you think that beating up on crappy teams is specific to TBC, then I suggest that you watch more football. Pretty much every good pass rusher gets to his sack total by feasting on 1-2 teams whose numbers they have.

Probably TBC but I am hoping for Cunningham

Can we please ban this homo Jets fan? His 40+ years of built up angst is uninteresting.

In the first half of the season they were easily the worst pass blocking OL in the NFL.

I also broke down TBC by sacks per pass rush attempt. He looked very good producing his sacks in a LOT fewer attempts than the other double digit sack guys. I think Peppers rushed the QB something like 150 more times (and 40% more) than TBC to get that other 1/2 sack.

I'll go with Brady ... right now he's going to get lots of sacks.

Probably TBC but I am hoping for Cunningham

That's probably the most likely pick and prediction. Wright will see even more of the field this year with Green gone so he's probably the sleeper. ILB just don't blitz as often as the edge setters. Spikes would have to make the best of his limited opportunities to lead the sack total. It's really looking like another low sack year again for the Pats. Thankfully we loaded up on DBs.

I agree with this position.

If Cunningham is as effective at OLB as Tully, we should be in good shape. I am not one that measures this by sacks, but that it is another thread.

Probably TBC but I am hoping for Cunningham

easy,big fella.just messin with ya.and you want to ban me?and i am a homo,too?jeeez,you cant take a joke.come on,how are the pats really going to go sackless?dont worry,they will get a sack
